Chapter 21 - The Demon Book

Envy reappeared back in her room. As soon as she did, she rushed downstairs.

“Guys! Guys, are you ok?” she called out. As she approached the lobby, she saw her friends. They then saw her.

“Envy, you’re alive!” Siss cried.

“Babe!” Simon cried. Envy ran over to Simon and kissed him as she hugged him.

“Thank goodness you’re ok.” she said.

“That was cool!” Haydn said.

“And dangerous.” Sombra said.

“Hey, at least we got some adventure out of it.” Bonnie said. Brooke ran in and saw her rescuers.

“You're alive!" She cried.

"Oh hey, Brooke." Sombra said.

"Umm, who is this?" Bonnie asked.

"Bonnie, this is Brooke." Envy said. "A prisoner we found in the dungeon."

"You must be the one that was making all those gunshot noises down there." Brooke said.

"Yeah, I got caught in a bit of a brawl." Bonnie said as she pulled out her two handguns and looked at them."

"Ah." Brooke said. "Again, thanks for saving me, guys.” Brooke said.

“You’re welcome.” Siss said. Just then, Sarx walked in.

“Oh hey, guys. You’re-” he said before he saw Brooke. He stared at her, awkwardly.

“Uhh…Sarx, are you ok?” Envy asked. Sarx then shook his head as he snapped out of it.

“Wha!?” he cried. “Oh, sorry. I meant to tell y’all that this guy just moved in not too long ago.” Stepping into the room was the same old man from the dungeon.

“You?!” Brooke cried. The old man flinched "What the hell are you doing here!?” Brooke asked.

“I'm sorry, ma'am. Do I know you?” the old man asked. The others looked at each other in confusion.

“I’m sorry, what is going on here?” Envy asked.

“Hey, I know you!” the old man said. “You’re one of those strangers that freed me from my curse! Thank you!”

“You’re welcome. It’s just what we do.” Envy said.

“Brooke, do you know this guy or something?” Bonnie asked.

“Yes, I know him.” Brooke answered. “In fact, he’s the asshole that trapped me in that dungeon in the first place!”

“Listen.” the old man said. "I don't know who you are, but what are you even talking about?"

"Don’t lie to me!" Brooke said. "You know what you did!"

"Uhh, Brooke, I don’t think he even recognizes you." Bonnie said.

"Yeah, he looks brainwashed." Sombra said.

"Well he is about to remember me" Brooke said as she rolled up her sleeve.

"Hey! Whoa! Whoa! Whoa! Whoa! Whoa! Whoa! Whoa! Whoa!" Bonnie said as she tried to stop her.

“Brooke, leave him alone!” Envy said. “I get it that you’re mad at him, but he’s not worth hurting.”

“Give me one good reason why I shouldn’t give him a knuckle sandwich.” Brooke said.

“Please, Brooke. I don’t want you to start a fight in the house.” Envy said. Brooke paused for a moment and then rolled her sleeve back down.

“Fine.” she said. “Please just keep him away from me, ok?” Brooke said before walking out of the room. Envy then turned to the old man.

“Thanks.” the old man said.

“Did you really imprison her down there?” Envy asked.

“Who?” the old man asked.

“That girl.” Envy asked.

“I don’t happen to have any memory of that. Just visions.” the old man said.

“Do you  remember anything that happened before we came?” Envy asked.

“No, not really.” the old man said.

“It’s ok. Everyone forgets.” Siss said. The old man smiled at her with appreciation.

“Oh pardon me. Allow me to introduce myself.” the old man said. “My name is James. James the clothier. And you’re Envy, right?”

“Yes sir.” Envy said. “This here is Siss, Haydn, Sombra, Simon, and you’ve already met Bonnie.” Bonnie waved as Envy mentioned her.

“Splendid!” James said.

“So uhh, what do you do as a clothier?” Bonnie asked.

“Well, I come up with all sorts of outfits.” James answered. “I can even make you one that you can wear.”

“Hmm. Can I please see what you got?” Sombra asked.

“Why of course.” James gladly said. “Come with me.” Him and Sombra walked into a private room. “Alright, Sombra. Here’s what I got.” James said as he showed Sombra a variety of clothes. “Anything that catches your eye?” he asked. After a few seconds, Sombra picked.

“How about this one.” she said. After a few minutes, they returned. “Vuala!” James said. Sombra was now wearing a pink knotted shirt, a pair of purple short jeans, and a pair of black shoes.

“Sheeesh, Sombra!” Bonnie said.

“That is a nice outfit, Sombra!” Envy said. Haydn stared at Sombra with his face all red.

“Is there something wrong, Haydn?” Sombra asked with a seductive grin.

“N…no, nothing at all.” Haydn said, flustered.

“Me next!” Bonnie said. A few minutes later, she returned wearing a navy blue top and shorts, and a black cloak.

“God damn, Bonnie!” Sombra said. “You’re looking really shady.”

“Yeah, Bonnie.” Haydn said.

“I know, right?” Bonnie said.

“I wanna try!” Siss said. A few minutes later, a small explosion went off in the other room. Siss stepped out wearing a red sweater and black pants. Both of which had holes and burnt marks in them. James was covered in smoke.

“Whoa! What happened?” Envy asked.

“She got scared by a cat costume that I had.” James explained.

“I’m sorry.” Siss said, a little upset. “I ruined it!”

“Really? I think those holes make it look badass.” Bonnie said.

“You really think so?” Siss asked.

“Yeah, Siss.” Sombra said. “Think of the holes as battle scars.”

“Yeah. Battle scars!” Siss said.

“So, who else wants to go next?” James asked.

“Let Envy go next.” Simon said. “She is the last lady after all.”

“Aww. Thanks, Babe.” Envy said, blushing. She and James then stepped into the other room.

“Alright, Envy. You mind taking your armor off?” James asked.

“Sure.” Envy said. As she removed her armor, James was surprised to see that she wasn’t wearing any clothes at all.

“Oh my!” he said, face red.

“Is there something wrong?” Envy asked.

“N…no, not at all.” James answered. “Anyways, select your outfit.” A few minutes later, Envy stepped out wearing a purple tunic with a magenta shirt underneath, magenta arm bandages, and a pair of black shorts with a long gray skirt over it. Simon walked up to her.

“Wow! You look beautiful.” he said. Envy blushed at his complement.

“Not bad, Envy.” Sombra said.

“I think she looks great in that outfit.” Siss said.

“Thanks, guys.” Envy said. “Go ahead, Simon.” A few minutes later, Simon returned in a similar outfit that was more masculin.

“Look at you two and your matching outfits.” Bonnie said.

“I swear, you guys look so cute together.” Sombra said. Envy and Simon both blushed.

“What about this fellow over here? Does he want anything?” James asked as he pointed to Haydn.

“Me?" Haydn asked. He then thought about it for a minute. "Actually, there is something I want to do." he said.

“Alright then, let’s go.” James said. A few minutes later, Haydn returned, except that he looked different. He was now wearing a blue t-shirt, gray pants and black shoes. He was also no longer wearing his blue suit and hat. All of them state at Haydn, surprised.

"What?" Haydn said.

"Haydn, is that you?” Envy asked.

“Of course it’s me, Envy.” Haydn said.

“What happened to your suit?” Simon asked.

“Oh that?” Haydn said. “Yeah, I sold it to James.”

“How come?” Simon asked.

“I was just getting tired of it.” Haydn responded. “That’s all.”

“I have to admit, you do look more handsome without it.” Sombra said. Haydn blushed in response.

“I would agree.” Bonnie said. “He does look better in this style.”

“Thanks, guys.” Haydn said. James then stepped back in the room.

“Is everyone satisfied with their outfits?” he asked. All of them said yes. “Splendid! Now those that bought something, don’t forget to pay me. Thank you.” They all gave James the money that each of their outfits cost.  Just then, Wart and Andrew walked in.

“...And down there, we saw an entire world of lava and fire!” Wart said. Andrew then saw the group.

“Oh hey! You’re back.” he said.

“Hey, Andrew.” Envy said.

“Simon!” Wart said in joy.

“Wart!” Simon said back. Wart jumped up and gave him a high five with his tail.

“Did you find whatever y’all were looking for?” Andrew asked.

“Bonnie seems to have calmed down now.” Envy said. “So I guess we have.”

“That’s good, Envy.” Andrew said.

“However, I did find this with the radio thing.” Envy said as she pulled out the black demon book. Everyone else stared at Envy.

"What kind of book is that, Envy?" Haydn asked.

"I don't know. I grabbed it before we escaped." Envy said.

"What was it about that book that told you to risk your life?" Bonnie asked.

"There was a message above it that said, 'He hasn’t told you everything'." Envy said. She opened the book and showed everyone the mysterious purple key. "This was inside the cover."

"A key?" Simon said in confusion.

“That’s not just an ordinary key, Simon.” Andrew said. “It’s a shadow key.”

“Ok, and what do I do with it?” Envy asked. Andrew then sighed.

“Envy, everyone, gather around,” he said. “There’s something I should’ve told y’all about when exploring the caverns.” Everyone sat in a seat around Andrew. “So, this book, Envy, contains some information about the Underworld.” Andrew explained. “It is a layer of fire and lava that lies at the bottom of the world. Wart told me that he and Simon once reached it, years ago.”

"Simon, you've been down there?" Envy asked.

"Well, yeah." Simon answered. "However, it was really dangerous to travel due to the fire and lava that was everywhere."

"We had burns for weeks!" Wart said.

"Ouch." Siss said.

"Indeed it is dangerous." Andrew said "It is also home to demons and other demonic entities that can set you ablaze."

"What else is down there besides lava and demons?" Bonnie asked.

"I was just getting to that." Andrew said. "The Underworld contains an ore called hellstone. If you combine it with obsidian, you can actually make armor and weapons out of it."

"Ok, now you've got my attention!" Bonnie said.

“However,” Andrew continued, “in order to do that, you’ll need a furnace called a hellforge. You can find these anywhere in the Underworld or craft them if you have enough hellstone bars. Be careful with the hellstone when gathering it though. The ore is super hot and can bleed lava when mined.  Scattered across the Underworld are also these locked shadow chests, and this is where the shadow key comes in, Envy. With that key, you can unlock any shadow chest.”

“Any?” Envy said.

“Any.” Andrew repeated.

“The hellstone and the shadow chests sounds nice to hear about and all,” Bonnie said, “but I still don’t get what the deal is with this demon book.” Envy opened the book and flipped through the pages. In them, she saw all sorts of information about the Underworld and certain demonic activities.

“There’s rituals in here.” Envy said.

“I guess that makes sense since it’s a book possibly from Hell.” Haydn said. When Envy flipped the page, there was a ritual that really caught her eye. On the right page was a drawing of a doll being dropped into a liquid that looked like lava. On the right of the doll was a wall with eyes and a mouth.

“What the heck?” Envy said.

“What is it, Envy?” Haydn asked. Envy showed everyone the mysterious drawing.

“Is that another ritual?” Siss asked. Bonnie squinted at the drawing closely. Her eye sockets then widened.

“That looks like the thing I saw in my vision!” she cried. “Andrew, explain this!”

“Very well then.” Andrew said. “I should’ve also told y’all that some of the information in this book is forbidden, but guess it’s too late anyways. What you see here is a demonstration of summoning the Wall of Flesh, the master and core of the world that dwells in the depths of the Underworld. Legends say that this monstrous amalgamation can only be awoken through a living sacrifice. This sacrifice however, must be done in the Underworld.” Envy then noticed the scripture on the left page.

“Andrew, there’s some more information here.” she said. “Should I read it?”

“I guess so.” Andrew said. Envy then turned the book towards herself and read the following scripture.

“Once, the world was overwhelmed by two types of beings: Beings of light and beings of dark. These beings have fought each other in pursuit of balance, causing absolute chaos. In order to end the destruction, a great wall of flesh, known to be the world's core, was created to lock them away in the Underworld and bring peace to Cthuland. This deed can be undone though. Through the sacrifice of a living soul, the core of the world will reawaken from its eternal slumber to consume all in its path. Once the core is destroyed, the ancient spirits of light and dark will be released into the world once again.”

“Ancient spirits?” Sombra said.

“Light vs Dark?” Simon said.

“Yup, all that stuff.” Andrew said.

“That’s the issue though…” Calista said from behind. “It hasn’t been peaceful here.”

“What do you mean by that?” Bonnie asked.

“The Corruption and the Crimson still remain in this world, infecting anything in its path.” Calista answered.

“The Crimson?” Siss said, “Man, I totally forgot that existed.”

“Speaking of which, where even is the Crimson?” Envy asked.

“Wait, is it that place that is red and smells like raw meat?” Sombra asked.

“That’s……actually a very accurate description of it. Yes.” Calista said.

“Wait, Sombra.” Envy said. “You’ve been to the Crimson?”

“Yeah,” Sombra answered, “but I don’t know which way it is.”

“I can tell you.” Calista said. “It’s further East, beyond the desert.”

“Well that settles it then.” Bonnie said.

“Guys, let’s save that for tomorrow, please?” Envy said, exhausted. “I’m still tired from having to go after you, Bonnie.”

“Great idea, Envy.” Sombra said. “We’re all tired too.” Envy then yawned.

“Come on, guys. Let’s go.” she said.

“Stay safe, guys. Terraria needs you!” Calista said. Sombra and Haydn stayed downstairs and fell asleep together on the couch. Upstairs, Simon and Envy walked over to their rooms. Siss groggily shuffled towards hers. Before Simon could close the door, Envy came up to him and said,

“Hey, Simon?”

“Yes, Envy?” he said.

“Since we’re dating, I was wondering something.” Envy said. “Y…You wouldn’t mind if I slept with you again, would you?” she blushed. Simon’s face glowed bright pink as she said that.

“I….I guess I don’t mind. You can.” Simon said. Envy giggled. Simon closed the door as she walked in. As they laid down under the covers of the bed, they wrapped their arms around each other.

“I love you.” Envy said.

“I love you too, Envy.” Simon said back. They both then fell asleep.
