Lovecraft hated the ocean and the cold. So he set many stories there.

Most people forget that Cthulhu is a Warrior God, although he also seems to be a Mage God. He lead his empire of Starspawn on conquering attacks on worlds across the galaxy.

Show me a quote from any of Lovecraft's stories which described Cthulhu as a "warrior god" who conquers worlds and leads armies to battle. It's really funny how so many people across the Internet claim to know everything about Cthulhu, but when you challenge them to present an actual quote from the books, they never have anything. Is it strange to anyone else that so many fans of a literary character are illiterate?

Because he was said to have conquered multiple worlds, and it says in "The Shadow out of Time" that he and his legions of Starspawn went on a 3 way war for Earth against the Elder Things and Yithians. Also, please don't insult me. I will acquiesce, however, that due to the fact he was also a user of magic, perhaps he would count as a Crusader god, conquering in the name of his Elder God ancestors. He was spawned off of Nug, the conjoined twin of Yeb, while they were visiting the atomic swamp planet of Vhoorl.

Oh, and I wouldn't take those Old One family trees too seriously. Lovecraft and his friend Clark Ashton Smith both made a few contradictory family trees for their creations, mostly for fun or to answer fan questions. Supposedly Cthulhu was also spawned by a being calledΒ PtmΓ’k, or a completely different being called Cxaxukluth. Whatever the case, Lovecraft never mentioned any family tree within his stories, and he never said that Nug and Yeb were conjoined, and he never mentioned any swamp planet of Vhoorl.
He also didn't describe a thing about Nug and Yeb in his stories (though in an obscure letter he does mention that they are spherical or oval in shape).
I don't mean to sound like a raving "purist," but I don't think one should rely on an unstable collection of fan fiction for their facts. Otherwise, fans would be telling everyone that a Dora the Explorer fanfic full of gore, sex, and booze is "canon" to the cartoon, which would be amusing but untrue except in their minds.

"The Call of Cthulhu" never described Cthulhu conquering worlds or leading armies. All it said was that the Old Ones traveled to many worlds. Obviously they must have warred with other aliens here and there, such as the Elder Things as briefly described in "At the Mountains of Madness," but the Cthulhu spawn are never referred to as specialized warriors or invaders, and Cthulhu is never described as anything even close to a warrior god. As Mike mentioned below, the best we know about Cthulhu's role among his people is that he was a "great priest."
And I don't have time to re-read "The Shadow Out of Time," but I'm skimming through all the parts that refer to the Yithians' contemporary neighbors, and I don't see any mention of a war against Cthulhu or his kind. But if anyone can show me a quote then I'll accept it.
I was never fond of post-Lovecraft stories which describe Cthulhu as an evil alien kaiju overlord, as that severely limits the sheer boundlessness and ambiguity of the original stories, in which Cthulhu is a mysterious being who embodies chaos of a more nuanced sort than most people would understand. Granted, it doesn't help that Lovecraft tends to portray almost anything weird under a negative light.
Oh, and about insulting you, I'm really, really sorry for that impression, but I wasn't trying to. I was bringing up the fact that lots of people don't read the stories, yet claim to know all about Cthulhu and spread unfounded ideas as though they were fact. I wanted to bring that up for anyone who might bother to read my tedious posts.

It's a dirty job, but someone's *gotsta* do it.
Cthulhu, Hastur, Majkl, ia, ia, ia...
(Nice work btw. Love the front view of Cthulhu; makes him look downright intimidating compared to your usual tulus. Your distinct elephantine shape must naturally look beautifully strange from the side and frighteningly huge from the front!)

He was referred to as priest of Other Gods so I think he is really more of spiritual leader.
