Description
An enormous piranha. It appeared in the same dream as Ice Wyvern and Scylla , as the dream itself was sort of a guide to aquatic monsters.
also:
"Once in a while he paused to watch a carnivorous fish catch a fishing bird, which it lured to the water by shewing its tempting scales in the sun, and grasped by the beak with its enormous mouth as the winged hunter sought to dart down upon it."
H.P. Lovecraft, Dream-Quest Of Unknown Kadath

Actually less disturbing than the deep-sea angler-fish, which it resembles ......

Looks like the deep-sea angler fish without the angler. Anyway, nice work.

How appropriate that I'm listening to the Statement of Randolph Carter as I stumble across this - brvo KingOvRats, this is terrifyingly nightmarish!

I've picked up the whole of Lovecraft's written works on audiobook, thanks to Audible - honestly I generally find the dream-cycle stuff less enjoyable than the other material, but there is some interesting stuff there. I am thinking of trying my hand at writing some Cthulhu mythos of my own invention - I'll probably be looking to your art (among others) for inspiration - drop me a note if you'd like to discuss this

Most of dream stuff indeed, but Dream Quest is among my personal favs. If you intednd to write your own myths I will suggest less tentacles more mystery. Less action more atmosphere. Many authors have forgotten this essential quality of the mythos and substitute deepest and oldest fear of the unknown with better or worse designed characters. But for me it was the fact that he left so much for one's own imagination a most pleasing aspect of the old mythos

Oh definately - I really enjoyed the Dunwich Horror, the Colour Out of Space and others like Charles Dexter Ward and the Shadow over Innsmouth, those are really what I'm aiming for.
Thanks for the advice!

I often get my ideas for how to depict Lovecraftian creatures from dreams. This is especially valid for the creatures that are a part of Dream Cycle. What a better source lore-wise than dreams themselves.
