Long before Demigod had immortal servants, before he could prolong and transform the lives of those loyal to him there were the masks; a crude substitute of long living followers. The masks grant various powers to the wearers, mostly based on their own personalities and desires. The mask absorbs the strongest emotions and feelings of the wearer. Thus it is lethal for the self-destructive, negative and will-less minds preventing inclusion of those that could prove dangerous for the cause. Wearers of the masks have always performed great deeds both noble and horrible based on their feelings and desires. The mask would not only provide powers to the wearer but also alter his body on a molecular level making him completely unrecognizable and healing any wound in the process. The wounds of the mask-form wouldn't be transferred back to the wearer when taking the mask and putting it back on either. In return the wearers would become part of the line of the mask servitors, having their own eyes blinded at the time and only looking with the eyes of the masks.The masks themselves were extremely varied, coming from different cultures and civilizations and no two were alike.
I might draw some of those guys individually demonstrating their powers. or not.

So if I've got this correct, the masks are a trap? They grant superhuman powers, but to do so they physically modify their wearer's body, eventually making themselves irremovable without killing the wearer. Even putting one on for the first time is crippling, blinding the wearer permanently unless they continue to wear the mask and see using its eyes rather than their own. Furthermore, one of their modifications is that they'll cause the regeneration of any injuries inflicted upon the wearer as long as the mask remains and they've got sufficient biomass to work with.
This also leads to the possibility that everyone's guessed their function all wrong and they're not defective . Granting superpowers was never their primary purpose, it was bait to get people to wear them. They're still bonded to the physical and mental forms of their original, long-dead inhuman wearers and their regeneration function means they'll automatically "heal" anyone who wears them of the "injury" of not being a physical and mental duplicate of their first wearer .
Also, the one furthest to the right reminds me of the synthesaurus .

Actually, no in most cases but you did get one thing right. They were indeed mainly made for the purpose of people wearing them.
You, however, overestimate the meaning of the wearers. They have much lesser significance. Only serving to carry the mask.
Also, the purpose of creating the masks at all was at the time inability to cause permanent transformations, so nope, they cannot permanently change or especially mutilate the wearer? Not to mention, who would wear them then, knowing they will be crippled? Destructive personalities - the ones that the masks are specially designed to root out.
