Well perhaps it requires that.. The Oedipus story is one of the stupidest myths written... Gods mad at Oedipus for killing his dad and having kids with his mother while gods themselves have done simiar deeds... xD I guess it summarises old truth that if you are rich and influential you get away with anything. XD

I love how in the actual play, the chorus tells Oedipus off for doing stuff, but the truth is the gods decided his fate for him!

Well it was understandable that they critisised his actions but I don't get one thing. In those times justice was sort of eye-for-eye model so if his parents tried to killed him he'd be authorised to have same kind of vengance on them too...

I guess the eye for an eye thing would have been practical then, but if the Gods hadn't made them so desperate to kill Oedipus in the first place then maybe none of this mess would have happened in the first place!

Yeah, in the story all bad things are basicaly caused by an unsuccesful attempt of murdering a baby Oedipus. (anyway what's with the method? You leave it to starve or get eaten by animals in the wild instead of giving it a swift death? Did they want to kill a child without getting their hands dirty? That was pathetic.)
As far as I understand greek concept of Fate, Oedipus was bound to commint those deeds anyway, just probably in different circumstances... Still if I remember, the Oracle warned his parents not to have a baby because it will cause a lot of trouble.. ANd they did it anyway? Come on there are ways of making love without risk of spawning unwanted baby xD That again was pathetic, because they were reckless and then wanted to make up for their mistake by killing this poor innocent baby. Oedipus should be given a damn medal for killing his dad XD
