Description
I was extremely disappointed at the sequel.Bad emotions can be used for a proper cause too, my huge disappointment fuelled this piece. A tribute to the original movie design of semi-organic armour which I found extremely cool and innovative. If only they didn't develop the idea into cheap version Xenomorph queen wearing Cloverfield monster costume.. blargh!!
Anyway original rocks.

I heard the 3rd -upcoming- movie will involve the earth people -instead of waiting for a 3rd attack- will take the war home and attempt EXTERMINATING the entire species, blowing up their planet even, as menaces not just to earth, but to the entire universe. They'd be accompanied by survivors of other worlds these cancerous fiends wiped out.

I am not sure if I even watch it. The first one was flawed but ultimately entertaining. Part 2 bored me to death, it felt like new marvel movie just with fun characters replaced woth boring ones

I agree the original was much better, but I still like the new one in a Michael Bay-esque way: epic mindless action and minimal plot

Yeah in this way it's similar to new Transformers movies... which I don't like either. I liked the cartoon a lot though, especially Beast Wars.

I think it was unique. A rare example of cartoon where many characters including some good guys actually died.

Some species are a menace to all others. Expanding on this, it may well be necessary to exterminate whole inhabited planets, to allow 10,000 other inhabited worlds to survive.

I don't know if my comment got in or whether it got pffted by this laptop's bug-ups. Here goes again.
Have you noticed that disaster movies are getting ever more overwhelming and destructive ? It no longer matters if an Alpine ski resort got smashed up or an Italian town got smacked. Now BILLIONS have to die !
2014 !
Independence Day !
Even superheroes have to get boosted to the apocalyptic level. Guys with just weapons or Martial arts skills, and aren't icons, won't hack it now. Their powers have to become inherent.

Acually both comments got posted so I'll reply just here.
That's true, everything is happening on larger and larger scale. The villains have to make their plans more and more spectacular. At the same time, ironically movies are getting less and less violent.
As far as superheroes are concerned I think it is somewhat justified, as I've been watching Avengers I had the feeling that Hawkeye and Black Widow are somewhat out of place there.

The 3rd movie will show the earthmen H-bombing the aliens' home planet, not just to protect themselves but to stop their cosmicidal plunder & pillage of other worlds to come.

I'm not sure if they'll go so fast, they might want to make 4th or 5th movie as well. I'd say 3rd one is more likely to be fighting in space.

Nowadays it isn't enoughh to smash up an Alpine ski resort, or a small Italian town. Billions have to die now. (2014). Independence Day solved the world population problem !

Yeah, 2 was one of the worst movies Ive ever seen to be honest while 1 is still neat despite 20 years passing. And while I can exuse shitty plot, as its common among sequels I still am amazed how can new movies look so damn bad. I think its overuse of cgi.

i think all of u r too sensitive about cgi. It keeps looking better and better and it looks rly good since quite a while. So the new film looks better than the old 1.

While I m more fond of practical effects I don't mind CGI when it's good, however I have a feeling that in recent years its actually getting worse, Trolls and orcs in 'battle of five armies' being the most disgraceful example. Also thats one of the lesser problems with this movie. If the movie itself is good i have no problem excusing technical imperfections.

Nah, maybe for some random movie they'd be fine, but compared to the LOTR trilogy they looked pathetic. scontent.cdninstagram.com/t51.… Same with the wargs. The only things superior about them to the original was that they actually made them use Black Speech, that was pretty awesome idea.

Yeah, I think it is. While I have quite a sentiment for theo riginal, which might affect my judgement and probably does I o realise it wasn't sucha great movie after all. The new one has just too many flaws to list them all. One, that I find exceptional and therefore mention it are characters. I don't think I've seen ever before a movie introducing so many suppsedly "main" characters that are so uttterly pointless and unimportant.

I kinda marvel at the kind of bullshit Hollywood is spewing lately.... I mean, it always did, but it seemed to grow in quantities.... and that's films that are supposed to be high end, lately, and they're total shit. Makes me wonder where this is going....

One of my watchers living in China shared with me a theory that Hollywood is making these with east-Asian market in mind. Apparently, movies that are dumb but filled with spectacular effects are received much better than those a bit more complex, which could lead to this strange tendency I've also observed.

Very nice drawing! I always wondered if that suit is alive too, somehow, since it's organic.
Anyways, I have yet to watch the sequel, which I've been waiting for 20 years. You say it's bad, but I think I can handle it since I survived watching Highlander 2 (which, even being the WORST AND MOST RIDICULOUS SEQUEL TO A GOOD FILM EVER MADE, still had some things that I liked). So, I can't be so disappointed.

You always have to do that before watching a sequel. And if the sequel is very good, sometimes even superior to the original (like Aliens or Terminator 2), it's a better surprise.

Thing is that unlike Hobbit or Star Wars were expectations were set very high, and even when you try to lower them they would subconsciously remain such the Independence Day wasn't such an amazing movie. It was very neatly done and entertaining and therefore I didn't really expect so much out of it...

The sequel was largely written for release in China I'd say. There is big money from cinema takings there and special effects movies are popular. Plot optional. Things like the latest Transformers film, TMNT, that are critically panned in the west do well there, especially if they drop pro-China hints. More subtle and complex films like Winter Soldier do not do as well. Many prominent mainland Chinese actors and product placements in the latest Independence Day.

I spent a fair bit of time in China including in cinemas with local audiences so was able to take the temperature of what's going on there. The number of cinemas being opened there is huge and they have the largest audience for Hollywood releases now. Chinese companies are also buying into Hollywood studios now with the focus on releasing content compatible with their two biggest audiences. It explains a lot about why movies like the forthcoming Great Wall are getting made.
Unfortunately due to the way mainland censorship works, I think we will continue to see a dumbing down of Hollywood blockbusters to ensure getting a release and avoid upsetting censors.

Pewnie kiedyś obejżę i będę jeszcze bardziej zdegustowany niż pierwszą. Pomysł odpierania drugiej inwazji obcych mając technologię odebraną najeźdźcom ma naprawdę fajny potencjał (w książce "Siły Gwiezdne" Larsona, 12 tomowej space operze ten pomysł został wykorzystany naprawdę nieźle), ale cóż... To ten sam reżyser, którego umysł spłodził 2012 i Pojutrze....

No ale trzeba zrobić kolejną część i ktoś musi w niej zagrać

Small wonder that the earliest ancestor of the Hapsburgs (built a castle at Hapsburg (Hawk's Peak) to watch the east ,founding the future Hapsburg domions, in the 10th century.

Okay then, I'll thell you in points what I told him.
- I agreed that virus idea was stupid
- While I don't like common uncreative gray alien concept I like this movie's unique take on it
- Unexplained goals of the aliens are cool, because "Greates and oldest fear of mankind is fear of the unknown" as Lovecraft said
- Practical effects in the first movie are excellent; New one lacks them entirely
- Characters in the new movie suck
