Is that a Penanggalan? I had to illustrate a story about some of those years ago. Very well done!

Objectively the best vampires, I will fight those who disagree
Also, I find it rather interesting that southeast asian vampires tend to have a proboscis style blood drinking tongue. It's such a weird, alien detail it makes me wonder what inspired it

I also wondered about that. Maybe the invention of straws.
I have no personal knowledge of that. The invention of straws is complicated but makes sense.
Then I saw "Mosquito der Schänder"
" The Vampire of Nuremberg" used a strange glass pitchfork style straw to suck his victims blood."

huh, that could make a lot of sense. I am having trouble finding information about the genesis of straws in southeast asia, but I'm assuming they existed in some capacity based on the existence of straws super early in history. I could definitely see it being an inspiration.

Looking it up, butterflies exhibit a behavior called "Blood Puddling" and they happen to have long flexible probosces. Maybe they took inspiration from seeing a ton of butterflies/moths on a dead animal or even human corpses

I have two versions: one psychoanalytic and logical, another fantastic and mad.
1) Earlier Indonesians ate people and drunk their blood. Before cooking someone it is desirable to cut off the head and disembowel internals. When people (practising Islam, Christianity and the Buddhism) from the continent have come to the islands of Indonesia they were terrified by local customs... In such a way in folklore was appeared this image inspired by food waste. Custom to drink blood and eat human meat has been forced out to a subconsciousness by new religions and moral and transfer from the ordinary person to a supernatural being.
2) An unsuccessful scientific experiment: teleportation, invisibility, transition from a material form to a pure energy or contrary, etc.

Very interesting, and the fact that cannibalism was rather common on geographically related Pacific Ocean islands seems to support the idea.

Where the hell are the reproductive organ. What's the deal to be a demonic seducer without it!

Its not really a seducer xD I was thing about adding it but as they come separately and with some effort in a dissection, I omitted the reproductive system and the kidneys.

It's interesting that this creature seems to cross borders all over South East Asia but seems almost absent in the Far East monster/ghost mythology. The stretchy long neck woman (rokurokubi) in Japan is kinda similar though. (font bug) Apparently the nukekubi was a version that could detach it's head (no guts) and fly around to drink the blood of sleepers. There is no floating head stuff in Korea though. It's mainly ghosts who are either helpful, tricky, or completely enraged.

Oh yeah this creature is pretty famous here! It says that this thing are people who use dark magic. Leyak is what they called them in Bali, in Borneo they called it Palasik.
