Description
Another of the cryptid series inspired by the video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=6w07gB…I have some of my own thoughts on it, however. First of all I do agree that mothman was a misidentified owl. Were the only sightings of "Mothman" only durung the so called mothman craze though?
Consider mythological background of an owl. It has always been associated with Death and witchcraft; In some beliefs owls were even more monstrous creatures; vengeful ghosts of the dead as well as demonic beings (Striges, Lilith) were thought to assume owl-like shapes
I believe it's quite possible that back in prehistoric or early ancient times very similar encounters to that of "Mothman incident" have happened; People glimpsed weird, big eyed, flying and somewhat humanoid looking shapes in poor conditions and interpreted them to be ghosts or monsters, later leading to development of owls' mythical cousins. In such a context Mothman could be considered not only an example of misidentification and media hype but also of re-emergence of ancient, mythical archetype in modern times. The same ancestral fear in cryptozoological guise. What do you think?
Regardless of that, here in my portrayal the mothman is more like an alien, although I tried to apply some owl and moth like characteristics as well.

I think most say (and quite reasonably) that it was an owl. I don't get how one interpreted this almost neckless creature as a crane.

That sounds about right. I've heard of the British owl-man.

Similar to how trunko featured in your depiction of another similar sea creature, is that supposed to be the owl man in the distance of this one? Or just a moth? Lol anyhow, outstanding work! I always liked to think of the mothman as an alien rather than an evil spirit. Even though the latter would make more since lore-wise.

It's an owl. Referring to my conviction that Mothman most likely was one.

"Hoot Hoot, Motherfucker." That was pretty funny.
I've been wanting to draw a Mothman-esque creature that I've had in my head for a while now. It's sort of hard for me to get it on paper.
Love the drawing you did.

I sont know why but I somehow never notice links when they are put right at the startsorry for that, I did read the description. And judging by how octopus-like you made it I guess you also saw Trey's video on realsitic aliens, correct Really nice interpretation, and does seem like an alien, assuming the alien's planet had similar levels of Gravity to ours that is, I am mentioning that because if you were to think of it as an alien the shorter wing proportions depending on the home planets gravity level those wing proportions might have been fine, just an idea.

I knew you'd reach Mothman eventually! It's too perfect for your style and taste to pass!
I'm not surprised you deviated from the typical fluffy owl creature or humanoid moth like most people draw. You created what I can only describe as a fleshy owl cthulhu ray, and god would that be disorienting to simply look at if it were real. Beautiful, weird creature!
Your thoughts on the creature are also interesting, turning it into an entire primordial archetype. I once read a popular article describing dragons as being the products of our very distant ancestors combining their memories of deadly predators like cats and birds and snakes into one scary shape. The spirit of Mothman could be almost as old as even dragons.
Also, as MrZarono (I love your art!!!) mentioned, John Keel wrote some interesting books on the Mothman and other alien/monster encounters, and interpreted them as ultradimensional, almost lovecraftian beings. I always imagined Mothman as being a surreal alien entity on the same level as the Old Ones, so that's another reason why I love your take on it!

Thanks for appreciating both my drawing and my idea. Interesting thoughts on dragons and it might be true, medieval images of those often mix mammalian, reptilian and avian characteristics.

Point Pleasant was---pleasant Nice little town, the Mothman museum was interesting and the owner was friendly and knowledgeable. There's also a small park with a mural depicting the Battle of Point Pleasant, statues, monuments, and the grave of Chief Cornstalk. Chief Cornstalk and his son were murdered and a legend grew around the incident, here's some info on that if you are interested:

I would say to Trey the Explainer, that if this creature is an alien, it could shape shift into different animal forms to disguise itself. The Mimic Octopus is famous for doing that, changing it's own body shape into different animals. But Mothman might more be a vertebrate so it would be impossible to change it's shape. Except some fish, like the Blob Fish. But he would continue going that crap he always says. I don't hate the guy but why is he so anal retentive of saying this creature was mistaken and just think this could be a monster. Besides if he talked to some of the original witnesses who saw the creature(which are still alive and old aged), maybe he'll see it from their side of the story. Besides, they might refuse to believe that the creature they saw was mistaken for something else. It could be possible that some of those "living dinosaurs" that were sighted could've taken shelter in a nearby cave and might've escaped being burned and roasted from the asteroid blast.

I see your point but still I believe his points are stronger then yours. I don't think that eyewitness accounts are really that reliable as appearances are deceptive.. What one thinks he saw isn't always what really happened, great example being Trunko which was a dead whale tossed around by two orcas yet according to eye witness accounts it was alive and fighting. In fact, while I am not always agreeing with sceptical viewpoints I really like this series; It changed my approach to cryptozoology, which, before I just couldn't stand for this "Its true, all of it" attitude.
In this case all the evidence seem very coherent to me and I simply believe that there is no need to come up with weird and fanciful explainations when there are simplier ones available. There was a great quote in one of Sherlock Holmes stories, claiming that one should not fear to accept a weird explaination when standard ones have failed. I think a lot of cryptozoology associated people takes this totally backwards and dismisses simple theories in favor of "cool" and strange ones.
Speaking of dinosaurs I don't think that the asteroid blast was the reason, but rather changes in environment following it. If the blastradius would cover entire planet I doubt anything would have survived this. Still I don't know much of paleonthology so you should ask someone more familiar with it, I'm pretty sure there will be many people glad to explain it.

True I know, besides since I would forget things easily if its not related to something of my interests. Besides at least some cryptids have some evidence of maybe they could exist. Besides I'm surprised he's one who believes that the Patterson Bigfoot film is close to being evidence. Besides I seen many documentaries where they try to recreate the walk but it was near impossible for that to be a person in a ape suit. For the dinosaurs death, I would've said environmental changes caused after the asteroid hit, caused them to die out, but I didn't think of it when I wrote the comment.

You are right some of them do have physical evidence that one can examine and make conclusions. To be honest I only recently regained my interest in cryptozoology and I dont know yet about bigfoot evidence that you are referring to so I can't reply whether I find it true or not.
