Nearly a century has passed since the HPG network went down on the 7th of August 3132. The Inner Sphere has entered a new Dark Age, decades of war and civil unrest have given way to an Age of greater suffering unlike any in the entirety of Human History. Whilst states such as the Federated Suns, Draconis Combine, and the Capellean Confederation managed to weather the storm, with the latter even experiencing a period of rejuvenation and expansion, other states amongst the old powers of the Inner Sphere have not been so lucky. On the borders of the Inner Sphere, a number of periphery states and worlds formerly belonging to the Free Worlds League and Magistracy of Canopus have been absorbed into the ever growing Marian Hegemony, who have in turn vastly expanded their system of slavery to a new and terrifying scale. The Free Worlds league and Lyran Commonwealth have taken the brunt of further conquests by the Clans and diminished greatly in both size and strength. In an effort to bolster the defense of their realms, House Marik and House Steiner have joined in Union with one another, forming the Free Worlds Commonwealth. Much of what used to be the core of the Free Worlds League has fallen into near total anarchy, with large sectors being either devastated by war, abandoned entirely, or divided between myriad Warlords and Pirate states. Under the leadership of the Rasalhague Dominion, Clan Ghost Bear, Jade Falcon, and Hell’s Horses have unified under a Triumvirate with the purpose of fulfilling the vision of Nicholas Kerensky and reunifying the Inner Sphere in accordance with his ideals. In contrast Clan Wolf has all but shed their Clanner identity as the ruling descendants of Aleksander and Nicholas Kerensky wish to put aside the old ways and embrace their true identity as the rightful heirs of the Star League and all that it stood for, to varying degrees of success and failure. The so-called Wolf Empire’s adoption of Inner Sphere philosophy has resulted in them being shunned by the other Clans though neither the Triumvirate nor the Empire have engaged each other in direct conflict. At the heart of Human Civilization stands the Republic of the Sphere, once a shining beacon of hope and reason through the centuries since the fall of the Star League. The state which guards Mankind’s birthplace is now reduced to only a handful of Star Systems surrounding Terra and has been forced to pay off and become a protectorate of the Wolf Empire to prevent final conquest by its neighbors. With the situation becoming so desperate, Many have chosen to pack up and flee the Inner Sphere altogether as they sought out a new life far from the chaos on the frontier colonies of the deep periphery. It is a time of great fear and hopelessness amongst the general population, worlds which thrived centuries ago were abandoned, the advent of Clanner Technology has only made war more destructive, many believe that Humanity will never again rise from its centuries long decline, that either the Clans will conquer all or that civilization as a whole will collapse. Thus most only await the day that a hostile fleet will arrive in orbit to put a final end to their miserable lives. However, it was on the 5th of January 3225 that everything changed, an unexpected event would send shockwaves through the Inner Sphere as a new order emerged vowing to bring an end to the destruction and restore the peace of the old Star League. The man who made this promise was none other than the long dead Anastasius Focht, and the Knights who pledged themselves to his ideals would embark on an endeavor seeking nothing less than the Restoration of Mankind from its descent into darkness.
