Description
In 2587, more than a century after the debut of the first BattleMechs, the nature of warfare and destiny of the Inner Sphere would once again be shifted by the introduction of a new weapon onto the blood soaked battlefields of the Star League’s conquest of the Periphery. Doctor Trenov Minovsky was an Earth based Russian Scientist who had spent most of his career trying to prove the existence of a phenomenon created when combining Nuclear Fusion with Helium-3 in the late 2570s, Doctor Minovsky’s theories had finally proved to be correct with the discovery of the aptly named Minovsky Particle. While its potential both as a more effective source of energy and for the development of more powerful laser based technology were well known, the Doctor found a difficult time trying to find a prominent corporation within the then Terran Hegemony who would take the risk on his first generation of Minovsky Reactors. Enter Anaheim Electronics, a small Lunar based robotics company initially founded off the manufacturing of advanced cybernetics for medical purposes. A small but fairly successful company at the time, Anaheim had long sought to break into the BattleMech industry though failed to create a fusion reactor that could efficiently power its more advanced robotic frame, that was until they entered into a partnership with Doctor Minovsky. With the Reunification War grinding to a stalemate along the Periphery, the demand for new and innovative weapons systems was high amongst the leadership of the Star League Defense Force. With Anaheim and Minovsky demonstrating their prototype in front of First Lord Ian Cameron himself, the performance of the so-called “GUND-Mech” had far exceeded all expectations of both its creators and the SLDF leadership present. The GUND-Mech was far more maneuverable, overheating was almost nonexistent, was supplemented by the assistance of an on board AI to make piloting easier, and its Minovsky based weapon systems proved 3 times more powerful than the strongest Pulse Lasers. Furthermore it was discovered during testing that the Minovsky Reactor emitted a discharge of dense particle fields which disrupted radar, communications, and most importantly targeting systems. When the first GUND-Mechs were deployed onto the front against the Taurian Concordat, their effect proved devastating to the enemy forces both on the ground and in space. Unlike a conventional BattleMech, GUND-Mechs also proved just as if not more effective in Space than Aerospace Fighters, leading to several decisive victories for the SLDF in space where squadrons of GUND-Mech decimated the Taurian fleet. By 2591, the Star League had finally overwhelmed the Concordat as well as the Magistracy of Canopus, and Outworlds Alliance, claiming total victory in the so-called Reunification War, with the GUND-Mech playing no small part in turning the tide of the stalemate. The conflict and its aftermath would see Anaheim Electronics rise from a small robotics company on the Moon of Terra to the most powerful Corporation in the Inner Sphere, one who would ultimately outlast the Star League before using its power and influence to create a new order in its aftermath…This scenario is based off of a crossover idea I’ve had for awhile, what if Mobile Suits existed in the world of Battletech? The answer is that it actually changes quite a bit. While impressive, BattleMechs are far more restrictive in their capabilities than even some of the worst Mobile Suits in Gundam UC or any of the other timelines. Here a unit of GUND-Mechs can quite literally change the course of an entire conflict when deployed to the right place at the right time, though this is also creates a double edge sword whereas a few rogue GUND-Mech regiments can carve out an entire sector of space for themselves. This timeline is paradoxically more technologically advanced but also more feudal due to rulers having to carefully placate their GUND-Mech pilots from revolting and taking a decent portion of the realm with them. The Terran Directorate was founded by Anaheim in the aftermath of the Amaris Civil War and collapse of the Star League, its main governing ideology is Neocameralism, a Monarchical style of Corporate rule fused with elements of Parliamentary Democracy. It is a system which the Directorate promotes within member states of the Inner Sphere Federation, the spiritual successor to the old Star League though far more centralized. With the Directorate providing a protective shield, the concept of Lost Tech is far less prevalent in this timeline as the Inner Sphere did not experience the same level of technological regression. Conflicts are short though to some degree more destructive with major Corporate GUND-Tech manufacturers playing a major role in the politics of the great houses. For centuries the Directorate alone held a monopoly on GUND-Mech manufacturing until agents of House Davion managed to steal various schematics and payoff various engineers from Anaheim to aid the Federated Suns in building up its own GUND-Mech manufacturers on New Avalon, this was the origin of the Strategic Naval Research Institute. While the SNRI provides a significant advantage to House Davion, their GUND-Mechs are far smaller and less advanced than the ones produced by Anaheim or Jeturk Heavy Machinery, what they makeup for however is in quality and accessibility as Davion is more than willing to provide Mechs created by the SNRI to its allies in the League of Interstellar Nations. Characters and factions from various Gundam properties, and a few other Mecha or Sci Fi animes, are present in this universe alongside though from canon, give or take a few that have been added or removed due to the Butterfly effect. Zeon for example is based in habitation colonies that surround New Earth with the Zabi Family being the primary shareholder in the Zeonic Corporation which is one of several subsidiaries of Anaheim. While the Directorate promotes Neocameralism, they are forced by necessity to compromise with the pre-existing systems of Neo Feudalism due to the reality of managing large interstellar states. ComStar still exists as well though here it actually is a phone company with some strange mystical cult like elements, in place of the ComGuard there exists Gjllahorn whose primary function here is to protect the HPG network and ensure that the Ares Convention is being upheld in conflicts. Infamous units such as the Titans and A-Laws are also present as well functioning as Paramilitary units for the Directorate. The Newtype phenomenon does exist though is a hotly debated topic, the first believed Newtypes appeared around the same time as the introduction of the GUND-Mech with some theorizing that they are linked to the discovery of the Minovsky particle and or are an after effect of those who operate GUN-Mechs for long periods of time. The Inner Sphere of this alternate 3025 is one on the brink of all out war between the Inner Sphere Federation and League of Interstellar Nations, time will tell if either side will ultimately dominate the Inner Sphere though little do they know of the forces deep in the Periphery who ready to return from exile and reclaim what was lost to them.
