Description
NOTE: This is a text-based description generator. In the readme I included links to artistic resources if you want to make a sprite of your character.-
Every time I click that button I feel like I have to write an epic saga involving hundreds of characters. WHAT HAVE I DONE??
-
How to use:
1. Download the file. It should be a zipped file.
2. Open the zipped file. There should be four files inside; the Matoran and Toa generators as HTML documents, the readme, and a bonus Hero Factory character creation resource. I urge you to read the readme all the way through before using the generator. The credits for all sources used are also in the readme, all for your convenience.
3. Fave if you like it; link back if you use it! I find generators very useful for character inspiration, and I’m sure many others do too. So don’t be shy; just make a link back to this page and fave it for good measure. (Heck, you can link back here even if you don’t use it!)
4. If you still have questions, feel free to ask! I also take suggestions for more features; even I cannot think of everything, although I sure do try! But before you make a suggestion, check out the Source Code (easily accessed using the shortcut CTRL+U in Firefox) and make sure I didn't already list it in an array.
Everything else you need to know is in the readme file.
Let me know any feedback you have on this! What do you like/dislike about it? What could I improve? Are there any options missing that would make it better? I'm all ears.

Here's a link to the image I used in the preview:

Yeah, I have to say, this is NOT simple enough for me. Sorry. I think I'm better off going from scratch...

Sorry for the late response; I'm not active on this account anymore. What did you find was giving you the most trouble? It may be difficult to use if your computer doesn't have the capability of opening zipped files or extracting the contents (although it's not necessary to unzip anything before opening it).

I know how to extract zipfiles and such. I meant that some of the words make no sense to me, and that I'm not exactly on par with all those other elements, like gravity, psionics, lightning, and I'm clueless as to who to apply the info toward in terms of appearance...among other things... but MAYBE I'll double back and try again, I dunno...

What does this stuff mean? minimalistic mask, re-imagined mask, simplistic mask and primitive mask?

Sorry for the late reply; I'm not active on this account anymore.
Those are just some vague, abstract words that you can use to tweak an existing mask's design, or as inspiration to make up a new mask. Personally, I think that a minimalistic/simplistic mask would be, well, simplified, with fewer lines and details. Basically boiled down to its essential trademarks. A primitive-looking mask might have some more primal shapes or designs incorporated, maybe looking rougher or not as well-made. "Re-imagined" would be taking an existing mask (i.e. the Kanohi Hau) and redesigning it (which is basically what they did for the 2015 reboot; they took all the old masks and put a new spin on them).
I hope that gives you a bit of an idea of what those words could mean. It's mostly for the purpose of art rather than MOCing, although I guess you could try 3D-printing a new mask design if you wanted to...
In response to your other comment, a Bionicle villain generator would certainly be an interesting challenge! I'll give it some thought.

Thanks! It'll be helpful when I try to draw them! The ideas for what they mean are really useless and make sense too! Hope you do give the villain generator some thought, it would be awesome!

Ufinnuu is an elderly, energetic Toa of Water. She is tall and narrow-shouldered and her eyes are reddish purple. Her top-of-the-line, streamlined armor is colored cyan and blue-green. She wears a unique mask fashioned to look like a Noble Kadin with the power of intangibility. She seems to have connections with just about everyone, has a small rahi companion, and is indifferent about war. She used to be a sailor, and hated working at that job. Her Toa team consists of six members, and their mission is to find a legendary mask of power and defeat a deranged warlord. She wields storm blades and controls her element creatively.
Navoa is a middle-aged, rational Su-Matoran. He is slightly shorter than average and trim and his eyes are cyan. His hard, standard armor is colored bone white and deep orange. He wears a simplistic mask that looks like the maskmaker was trying to invent a totally new design. He has a handmade staff and has a morbid sense of humor. He is a musician and must assist a powerful entity with protecting a piece of ancient technology from a deadly eldritch abomination.
Criro is an old, outspoken Toa of Light. He is slightly shorter than average and rugged and his eyes are emerald. His patched-together, streamlined armor is colored white and gold by default, but he usually likes it to appear bone white and midnight blue instead. He wears a primitive Noble Calix. He gets along well with most people, has a unique, personally identifiable piece of armor, and is peace-loving. He used to be a secretary, but hardly has a chance to use the skill anymore. His Toa team consists of four members, and their mission is to protect the five legendary weapons from a deranged queen. He wields galaxy throwing discs and controls his element cleverly.
Devox is a youthful, risk-taking Ko-Matoran. He is average-sized and slim and his eyes are amber. His shiny, practical armor is colored white and storm-grey. He wears a custom-made mask that looks like a cross between a Noble Garai and a Great Miru. He has armor engraved with meaningful runes and is a stubborn pessimist. He is a mail carrier and has recently been getting painful visions of the past or future.
Welp, I like! definitely using this for more oc's! You should make a villain generator too!

There is a green download button right near the fave button. Once you download the zip file, the html file that is the actual generator will be inside it. Let me know if you have any other issues with this. I'm always looking for feedback!

Alright there's one problem: The generator seems to have a preference for female characters. Out of six there was only one male. Not sure if this is pure randomness or an error. I don't care that much personally if they're female though, but others might XD

Sorry for the late reply! I don't really use this account anymore. Thanks for your feedback! In both the Toa and Matoran generators, I made it so there is a 1/3 chance of getting a female character. I know the only canon "female" elements are Water, Lightning, and Psionics (and also Light, which is a gender-equal element) but I added Plantlife as a possible female element, although I have considered removing it since there's really no reason for it to be there aside from my personal head-canon that Plantlife, like Light, is a gender-equal element (wishful thinking, I know).
There are 12 canon "male" elements, including Light, so if my math is correct the male/female ratio should be 1:3 (not counting the female Plantlife option I added). It just made more sense at the time so I wouldn't have to click the button a whole lot to get a female character. Granted, Toa of Light are canonically very rare, so that would also affect results, but this generator doesn't take that into consideration. @.@ I also slightly skewed the results so that if you do get a female, there is a greater likelihood of it being one of the more common female elements (namely, Water and Psionics).
I would assume the results you got were up to random chance; while I was beta testing it I clicked that button at least 25 times and only got a Toa of Plasma once (I was worried the generator was broken)! Please let me know if you notice any errors or things that could be added or removed. Sometimes I look back at the arrays for things like quirks and accessories and I just feel like there could be more there. I'm always looking for improvements and expansions! ^___^

Ewtexaa is a young, opinionated Vo-Matoran. She is slightly shorter than average and wide-hipped and her eyes are blue-green. Her worn, simple armor is colored robin's egg blue and white. She wears a minimalistic mask that looks like the maskmaker took a few creative liberties with the design. She has armor engraved with meaningful runes and likes to store all kinds of things, which may or may not turn out to be useful. She is a secretary and must assist a middle-aged, relaxed Toa of Gravity in finding the five legendary masks of power and saving the country from a destructive monster. Yaaaaaaaaaaayyy! Thanks! Nothing wrong found (yet). I might make a drawing of one of the characters made by using your generator. In that case I'll send you a link

Haha, she got one of those weird names I never could quite figure out how to fix. How about... Etexa, Waatex, or Wetaxa? Those seem easier to pronounce. XD
I'd love to see if you do make any characters inspired by this generator! If you do, it'll be easier to notify me on my active account, rainewhisper .

Intaa is a youthful, absent-minded Le-Matoran. He is slightly taller than average and broad-shouldered and his eyes are blue-green. His glittering, elaborate armor is colored jade and amber. He wears a generic mask that looks like a cross between a Great Jutlin and a Noble Ruru. He has a robe and is a diligent pessimist. He is a drifter and must assist a legendary being in finding a piece of powerful technology (before a destructive king does) and saving the island.
Urceo is a young, lighthearted Toa of Air. He is slightly taller than average and bony and his eyes are bright blue. His adaptive, compact armor is colored sea green and lime green. He wears a professionally crafted mask fashioned to look like a Great Elda with the power of boomerang (things thrown will return to sender). He has a great sense of humor, has a ceremonial robe, and is indifferent about war. He used to be a gardener, and was satisfied with the job. His Toa team consists of seven members, and their mission is to find a piece of powerful technology and save the village chief from an omnicidal De-Matoran. He wields scatter katanas and controls his element in a crude but effective manner.
neat!

"Itordia is a youthful, rational Onu-Matoran. He is slightly shorter than average and lean and his eyes are azure. His scarred, compact armor is colored onyx and pitch black. He wears a crudely crafted mask fashioned to look like a Noble Kualsi. He has a unique, personally identifiable piece of armor and doesn't like to share. He is a teacher and must assist a young, fun-loving Toa of Ice with finding a piece of powerful technology."
This sounds exactly like me lol, if I were a Bionicle. Unfortunately I can't draw or build my character but this was fun to do all the same!

Cool! If you want to try rendering your result, you can always make a pixel sprite or use the Lego Digital Designer to build your character on the computer. (I included links to these resources in the "Artist Help" section of the readme.

It's javascript and runs in an HTML file, so it should work. I don't have a mac so I can't really test it myself. Let me know how it works!
