Description
This was something I felt like doing on a whim yesterday when I came across one of my bigger sketchbooks and felt like sketching out some of these characters. The concept is based on something I thought of as a kid, after the first Smash Bros on Nintendo 64 had come out: what if they had a multi-platform fighting game with characters represented by Nintendo, SeGa and Sony games? At the time, it was a struggle for me to find characters from SeGa and Sony other than their mascots, since I was primarily a Nintendo kid. Now, it's MUCH easier to pick 'em out, so I went with five for each. We have:.:Nintendo:.
Mario (Super Mario Bros.)
DK (Donkey Kong Country)
Kirby (Kirby's Dream Land)
Link (Legend of Zelda)
Pikachu (Pokemon)

Sonic (Sonic the Hedgehog)
NiGHTs (NiGHTs into Dreams)
AiAi (Super Monkey Ball)
Ulala (Space Channel 5)
Billy Hatcher (Billy Hatcher)

Sly (Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus)
Spyro (Spyro the Dragon)
Ratchet (Ratchet & Clank)
Jak (Jak & Daxter)
I made the stupid mistake of not rounding-out the bottoms of the character line-ups so I could make the final art piece into a giant circle, but I think what I came out with in the end turned out alright. I knew that stock photograph of the sky I took a while back would come in handy someday.

sony had some of the best game characters ever, but the clasic crash bandicoot is better because now they just make him too cartoony.

That's actually pretty sweet. XD I'm pretty sure a lot of fans, back when they were younger and even today, have ideas on if there ever was a crossover game as such. I think the people you choice work out quite nicely if they were all in a game together. None of the characters are too "serious," if you know what I mean which is fine. And I gotta say, you depict each surprisingly well, save for a few minor ticks on each of them; Pikachu's eyes look a little odd to me, and Link's sword should be lowered a bit so it actually looks like it's resting on his shoulder, looks like it's hovering there, and a few other things not worth mentioning.
All and all though, I really like it, and you did a great job. Keep up the good work!

The nerd in me wishes to point out that Insomniac more or less owned all the Sony characters, but have now sadly lost the rights to Spyro and Crash. (however I am now debating within myself if Insomniac like Santa Monica is brance of the SONY Corporation, if such I issue a full apology in advance)
That loss hit Spyro the worst, oh purple Dragon how I miss the old ye.

So my first few thoughts were as follows:
1) Ratchet? Jak? Sly?!?!?!?!?!? AWESOME!!!!!!!
2) Holy crap, Pikachu's eye's are HUGE!
3) That weird chicken thing was Sega's work?
4) How improper of me, I meant SEGA!
5) Sega more should be more mainstream...
6) Sega's revenge return to the console war is NIGH! (I wish... )
Randomness aside, this is a nice work. Brings back some grand memories, this one does. Thanks for the nostalgia and the great character work.

Im happy to know other people were thinking of this. Its one of those games I dreamed of since the first smash bros. I kinda predicted back in the day that sonic would be added to a smash bros game, and that eventually nintendo would run out of colors and have to use black and white for pokemon titles.

I like how each side's leading figure each have their hands raised, but are making different hand signs.
I'm trying to think of how else you could've solved the circular issue you were having, but nothing's coming to me at the moment, but this is still working pretty darn well. Though I might have put two other black shapes in the empty spaces (between Spryo and Pikachu, Kirby and Billy) to complete the border, just to fully enclose the composition. But that's just how my eye's working.
Other than that, this is sa-weeeeet.

Oooolaalaa, Ulala is looking pretty fine. For a crazy Gorilla, I'd expect DK's legs to be a bit more beefier, but besides that this looks amazing.
