Description
This is a rough of a character in the FaithStar Comics universe. I've been graciously contracted to work on a few of their projects. I'm blessed to have this opportunity.I'm just experimenting with a few, out-of-the ordinary poses, and have my Steve Ditko hat, along with my Gil Kane glasses firmly in place!
All I wanna do is draw funny-books...is that too much to ask?

There's a lotta weight to this figure, like he'd do a ton of damage landing on someone, and that's good. I like the musculature/physiology, exaggerated just to the right extent I'd say. Nice work.

Things are good. I have a great job doing graphics for my hometown newspaper (Waterloo, IA) and staying fit. I also haven't forgot to have fun. Sounds like things are going well for you too.

wow, from what I could tell the anatomy was really accurate. Could you tell me how you go about improving your artwork. everytime I see your stuff it just keeps getting better.

I'm basically a sponge when it comes to studying, and absorbing anything that may help me improve, particularly when it comes to making my stuff have that "jump off of the page" feel that Jack Kirby had. Strangely enough, music helps me alot, also. I try to make my figures "move to the rhythm" if that makes any sense. I watch boxers, and basketball players, in particular because they're constantly im motion, and are usually in great condition, making their anatomy easier to see. I also watch "Enter The Dragon", as bruce Lee was, to me, an anatomists dream. His physical condition was stellar! I really appreciate the kudos, fam-o

thanks for the info. i ask this question a lot of times and never get an answer. I think your the first to actually answer. So, do you ever use reference of any kind. My friends tell me I should but sometimes its boring and it restricts me. but sometimes I can't solve that problem that keeps me from finishing a piece so I will try and use it. It is nice to hear your studying methods. I often do the same thing but I wonder if it helps me. I do understand about the rhythm, its a good way to draw from you gut. thanks again.
oh, if you ever get a chance i would really appreciate if you could look at some of my work and give me some pointers. I understand that your busy so no hurry. thanks

Sorry for the delayed response! Been a wacky holiday season! To answer your question: by all means, DO use reference! It took me awhile to realize the importance of reference material. I arrogantly thought that reference material was as big a crime as tracing! UNTIL, I was asked to draw something that I'd NEVER seen before...THAT'S when I realized that YES, reference is a necessary tool.
I'd be more than honored to peruse your gallery...just as long as you'll return the favor!
