Description Here's the base for my upcoming three-boot of Revolution!, coming to a SpaceBattles (and maybe even an RPG rulebook, but that's more of a long-term project) thread in a few months.

Additional credit must be given to KapiTod (Australian inland seas) and B_Munro (for his snazzy colour scheme, which I've modified somewhat). This map can be used with permission, just see me beforehand.Β

Where the Siberian sea come from?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

KitFisto1997 In reply to AlexJudge [2019-08-21 23:44:12 +0000 UTC]

It's based on this OTL plan:Β  en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northern…, albeit taken to the extreme. It came at the tail end of TTL's Cold War, by a Soviet Union* that was playing second fiddle to their allies in Berlin. The Siberian Sea has actually fucked up the region for the foreseeable future, as it's a massive drain on the Aral Sea and the network of both natural and artificial rivers that feed into it. Central Asia's desertifying at a worrying rate and southern Siberia isn't that far behind.

Now you see, the creation of a large body of water leading to desertification is one of those climate things I fail to understand (not even close to my field of study) right up there with trying to figure out what the earth would be like if N and S America were separated still, if some parts of doggerland still existed, and the actual effects of similar lake project in Africa would result in.

Any idea on how to find out the answer to such questions in a way any climate-dumb person can understand?

Don't worry, I'm as much as a layman as you lmao. I read somewhere that the reversal of the Siberian rivers would lower the freezing point, causing the ice to melt faster. As for the desertification, I'm not entirely sure, that was some speculation/handwaving on my part.

So you just came across it?

Guess this means you're as clueless as me on even finding out how to find out what the effects such alterations to the Earths geography would entail?

The Big One happened, not to mention climate change screwing over the coastline beforehand.

One has to wonder: would the inland lakes change African history in the manner which others have hypothesized (a greener Sahara, more chance of longterm agricultural development earlier on, etc.)? Or were they artificially created during the period after the Paris Commune as part of the colonization effort?

They were created in the late 20th century, in order to deal with global warming.
