Phew, this was a long time in the making. I kept getting so many requests for an inking tutorial! It's no wonder there aren't very many good ones out there, it was the most difficult tutorial I've written yet. Even when I read through it now, I don't think it's completely concise OR clear. But it's better than nothing.I covered a bunch of techniques ranging from the very basic to the fairly intermediate, so I hope everyone who reads it gets something out of it.
Some people also asked for a digital inking tutorial, which will not happen. I do not ink digitally, only traditionaly! Let me know if you have any questions

I hope you don't mind the serious tone on my end, but I'd rather not upload any of my artwork here. Given the lack of professionalism I've seen of DA's management, and how it allows its site to be handled it's not very likely that I'll ever be comfortable with uploading complete artworks to DA at anytime in the near future. Besides, it would seriously undermine the effort I'm putting into my planned 2008 website launch.

that's my lazy way of saying the kind of calligraphy pen with nibs you have to keep dunking into a jar of ink to use. ^^

Very helpful. What brand of pens do you use that are 005 and 01? Are those Microns?

Yup, I use Microns. But I'm not like a shipper for the brand or anything; they are just easy to find and relatively cheap. The sakura ones are nice, too. And the staedler are probably my favourite. Though I once had a copic one, I think, and it was really nice, too

Oooh those were pens, not markers, that I was talking about ;_; Markers... I use prismacolor, but I heard that copic were better. I just can't afford them ;_;

I have never tried out for real to ink something traditionally, so I will test your tutorial next time.

Good luck! It can be a frusterating process, sometimes, but I like the results much better than digital inking personaly.. each to their own!

nice tutorial, i use to ink mostly my hand, not anymore, not unless its line art that ill still do from time to time.
