Description
This meme was an idea I actually planned on doing some time ago, but I didn't think I had enough choices Β to really have a good meme. But something in me just snapped and I felt I should do this meme to-day!Before we start, I should inform you that just because a franchise is on here doesn't mean I dislike it. Heck, a lot of these franchises I love, but the fanbases I do have a problem with in some way (usually either too much hype or fighting within the fandom).
10. Avatar: The Legend of Korra
Now, this show I can't say I'm that into as I loved the original series a lot more and Korra had a few too many problems and differences with a rushed pace to boot (granted, it was originally supposed to be a mini-series...
9. The Total Drama series.
...Oh, boy. Gosh darn it TD, what in the world went wrong? The fandom seemed close to perfect when the show first came out, but season two and onward, it's really gotten into anarchy. Shipping wars, character bashing, many other fights going on. TDA put in the sparks to the conflict, TDWT ignited it, TDRotI gave us a bit of a break from the current problems, but with TDAS it just made the problems more bigger than they already were. We already have a love triangle shipping war that tore the fandom in half, characters getting derailed and flanderized, and now we have a new controversy about Mike being offensive towards people with mental disorders. Just...gah, at this rate, the show should probably end just so we can move on to something else. I feel bad saying this about a show I used to really love since I was eleven, but with the fanbase combined with the downhill quality of TD's writing, this has to be said...
8. Adventure Time.
While TD probably should be ranked a bit higher on the list, I do feel that the fanbase isn't that rampant and the problems don't get much attention outside of it. Now I used to kinda like AT when it first came out but then about a month later I pretty much lost interest. Now it's like all popular now and I can't get into it for some reason. The art style and a couple characters annoy me somehow (though this is nitpicky), I feel like it's being shoved down my throat all the time by fans and the Cartoon Network, and the rabid fans tend to be really obnoxious when they treat AT like it's sliced bread. The gender bend stuff is really rampant too, but I do find myself liking Fionna more than Finn himself.
7. Hetalia Axis Powers.Β
Y'know it's really, really hard to come across something relating to countries without the mentioning of Hetalia popping up. I'm sorry, but it's so rampant that I can't get myself to like it. I'm sorry, I just can't.
6. The Big Four crossover (AKA Rise of the Brave Tangled Dragons).
WHY is this so darn popular? Why should a crossover have this much of a following? I'm so sick of it getting so much attention and praise. I hate the ships (besides Mericcup, I kinda like that one), the fact almost every other character from the four franchises besides the mains are ignored or villainized, the many AUs, and how mean a lot of the fans can be if someone doesn't like it. It's been done to death and isn't fun or interesting anymore. Look, I'm all for crossovers, but there are more better ideas we can come up with for crossovers that can be explored. I'm fine for crossovers having a fandom, just...not this huge. I've heard that it's probably the Big Six now as Anna and Elsa have been included in. Are you gonna this with just about every other popular CGI film that comes out? Add one or two of the main characters into the group of teens/young adults who go on a self-learning adventure? And I thought the Jim/Ariel crossover was rampant, the Big Four makes that crossover almost nonexistant...
5. Pokemon.
Oh, Pokemon. I've loved it for as long as I can remember, still love it, and will likely continue to love it in the future...but man can the fandom be awful sometimes. There's people who complain about everything whether anything's changed or not (in short, some people complain about everything), shipping wars about who Ash should be with, and bashing characters in the anime too (often because of shipping reason). Please stop, Pokemon's a great franchise, I love a lot about it and I don't want the bad apples of the fandom to ruin the fun.
4. My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.
I'm more of a casual fan of the show to be honest, though I can see why people don't like it. But the fandom is huuuge, MLP is involved with just about anything you could think of. There's the insane fans who shove the show down people's throats, some shipping wars, the creepypastas (I hate them personally), some rather invalid character bashing is in there, and of course, fans who complain about everything. Complaining about Twilight becoming an alicorn, Derpy's censorship, Equestria Girls, people treating potential flaws to the point where they become overblown and exaggerated. Ironic since humanizing ponies and making the Mane 6 look like alicorns were popular in the fandom until the show itself did it.
3. Naruto.
I think going through the fanfiction and fanart of this show would each take YEARS. And with every huge fandom, there's going to be problems. LOTS of unnecessary shipping wars in a show where romance is almost never involved, tons of character bashing (especially with poor Sakura...I feel bad for her getting all this flak. I never found her that bad.), and crazy fans shoving it in people's faces. While I think Naruto's fame has died down a bit, it's still a really big fandom that could use a little restraint. It's an okay series, but I wouldn't call it a masterpiece.
2. Sonic the Hedgehog.
No variation of this meme would be complete without the Sonic franchise popping up somewhere. This might be the ultimate flawed fandom fitting every criteria. The insane fans literally do complain about everything, the comics, the games, the anime and cartoon adaptations, the characters, the ships, the recolors, the outfit/design changes, every single thing is going to get a lot of backlash. I like the Sonic series quite a bit, but the hype really needs to calm down.
1. Twilight.
What makes this number one exactly are you asking? Well, Twilight I think is a franchise that deserves nothing. It doesn't deserve it's fans, it's an insult to our human intelligence and morals with terrible bland characters and a horribly toxic, unrealistic relationship that deserves no hype or popularity! How can I like it and actually take this garbage seriously? I know I should respect one's opinion, but I seriously don't get Twilight whatsoever. Who the heck can like this?!

I agree with the Total Drama one.
TD used to be my favorite show of all time but now I've pretty much lost interest because of the lack of quality of the show and the crazy fanbase.
Now I only watch reruns of season 1 and draw fan art occasionally.

I saw it for the first time as an eleven year old when it started airing on Cartoon Network, something about it just sucked me in. But after the first season ended, it never gave me a truly satisfied feel as the writing seemed more pandering and flawed and the characters started to change for the worse. Then it just feels like the sense of humor is becoming horribly childish, rushed, and even needlessly meanspirited. The seasons that introduce the new casts have an advantage though since they often don't get derailed in their debut season. Pahkitew would likely be my third favorite season though.
Good good, keep on watching that amazing first season and drawing.

As I rewatched the TD seasons, I began to realize something that might surprise you a little. Those who bash Mike for his MPD might be considered hypocritical. My reason? Izzy. Think about it. Even though she's crazy to begin with, Izzy did manage to show possible signs of MPD, these beings are as followed: E-Scope (I don't know how it occurred, but often leads to a small friendship/alliance with Eva and Noah), Explosivo (as shown in case like "Up the Creek" where she likes explosions), and Brainzilla (as shown in season 3 when she had to recover from the plane crash). Yet, while people like Izz, they hate Mike for something that's meant to be the same thing, except less dangerous (except Mal)? My response to them: OBJECTION!
π: 0 β©: 1
Kitty-McGeeky97 In reply to BeekerMaroo777 [2014-06-27 20:25:01 +0000 UTC]
I think it has something to do with how any possibility of Izzy having multiple personalities is never explicitly stated, though she is technically considered generally crazy. People hypothesize that Trent might be OCD, but it's never stated in canon or by the producers, same with Sierra's obsessive habits.
I think the real problem with Mike is how his having multiple personalities is actually official and it's even his label. Another problem is the fact that Mike apparently was able to lose his MPD was because of a reset button in his brain. The thing about that is in real life, lots of people suffer from some sort of mental disorder, alienating them from more normal people for their peculiar behavior and some not being able to function well on their own. The whole thing with the reset button is like as if everyone could just end all their mental problems that easy, that stuff usually never goes away. It's like if they had a character miraculously cure their cancer or STD through a mundane cartoony task and they're all better in seconds, imagine how someone in real life would react to that who had roughly the same disease.

π: 0 β©: 1
Kitty-McGeeky97 In reply to canadatheninja [2014-06-26 23:37:38 +0000 UTC]
It's basically the fanmade title of a four-way crossover with Rapunzel from Tangled, Hiccup from How to Train Your Dragon, Jack Frost from Rise of the Guardians, and Merida from Brave. They're often made into a group of four friends (or couples). This crossover tends to make the existance of the other characters not relevant unfortunately...

Seen your list, and I respect your opinion.
While itβs true some Naruto fan shoves the parings in peoplesβ faces, most I have seen donβt. But I respect your opinion on Naruto, no need to have a fight over it. And I do agree that the paring wars are unneeded, I stay away from them.
And I feel I know a fandom that would be for sure on my list- Mass Effect. Maybe you have not heard of it or seen it. But I have seen how vicious the paring wars there can get. Itβs as bad, if not worse, than Naruto. In fact, it got so bad, that in the Bioware Social Network, the forums for Mass Effect, the romance discussion section was shut down. There was also cries for characters like Liara to die in DLC content, there was even petitions for Liara to die in DLC. I decided a while back that I wanted no part in the fandom, since it was just so bad, back then at least.
And I agree that Naruto is not a masterpiece. In fact, Part 1 can be considered more of one than Part 2, but things like the treatment of female characters prevents it from getting high up like some other stuff like Harry Potter. In fact, I consider Harry Potter to be more of a masterpiece than Naruto.Β And itβs true some masterpieces may not catch some peoplesβ attention, since it might not interest them.
For Naruto, most of the reason why I stick around is for the world and the characters. Thereβs some I have as favorites, some I really like, some I like, and much more. And the world is the reason why so much fanfiction has been created, many Alternate Universe and What if stories can be made. And I am a fanfiction writer also, so some of my stories are amongst the thousands.
Harry Potter is the only fandom with more stories, if you thought Naruto had it badβ¦Harry Potter has double, give or take. I just went βOh man!β seeing all those stories in the Harry Potter category in Fanfiction.net.

I have little knowledge of Mass Effect but that almost seems like the Sonic level of shipping wars. Naruto is a fine series to me, it could be better such as the female characters but I like it okay.
Harry Potter I did feel have more better care for it besides maybe a few things, but I enjoy seeing the characters grow and change. I did consider including Harry Potter here with all the many fanfictions but I don't really know that much fighting going on besides maybe all the Ron/Hermione vs. Harry/Hermione debates.

That is understandable, not everyone is a fan of Mass Effect, or even a former fan.
And I do agree, it seems to be the Sonic level of shipping wars in the Mass Effect fandom.
True, Naruto is a good series; itβs not the best or worst series. I find Part 1 to be better written than 2. And in Part 2, my favorite arc is the Kazekage Rescue Arc since it has my favorite team named Team Guy in it.
True about Harry Potter. Itβs a very good series, but not perfect. I think no series is perfect, and the longer they go on for, the more likely thereβs going to be some screw ups down the line.
I donβt seem to see too many shipping wars in the Harry Potter fandom either, think Iβve only seen that too, Ron/Hermione vs. Harry/Hermione.
Not sure if I have said it, but Twilight deserves its position on your list. If I made a list, Twilight would be in number 1 for Worst Fandom also, since Iβve heard the levels of crazy its fanbase can reach.

A vast majority of shows/movies that develope colossal fanbases seems to eventually start suffering from these problems.
For TD is seems as if, like you said, the fandom fires started since TDI ended.
I never was into the love triangle since I hate Duncan with a passion, which is why I was glad that TDAS finally decided to put it to rest.
Personally I believe that the majority of the unbelievable amount of conflicts that were born from TDAS stemmed from its last three episodes: Sundae Muddy Sundae with Courtney's derailment, destruction of her friendship with Gwen and relationship with Scott, and elimination; The Bold and The Booty-ful with Gwen's unfair elimination; and The Final Wreckening with the ballooned contestants floating away, as well as the king of all cop outs that was the resolution to the Mike vs. Mal subplot.
I also find it odd that the whole ableist claims against Mike did not come about right after the finale aired in the US, and only really started to gain steam once the finale aired in Canada and Mike was declared the fifth male winner in a row there.
Finally I think we can almost all agree that the Twilight series is complete and utter trash that practically single-handedly destroyed the vampire's reputation. I hope that, now that it ended, it will become just as dead as Food Fight by the next decade .
