This meme was an idea I actually planned on doing some time ago, but I didn't think I had enough choices to really have a good meme. But something in me just snapped and I felt I should do this meme to-day!Before we start, I should inform you that just because a franchise is on here doesn't mean I dislike it. Heck, a lot of these franchises I love, but the fanbases I do have a problem with in some way (usually either too much hype or fighting within the fandom).
10. Avatar: The Legend of Korra
Now, this show I can't say I'm that into as I loved the original series a lot more and Korra had a few too many problems and differences with a rushed pace to boot (granted, it was originally supposed to be a mini-series...
9. The Total Drama series.
...Oh, boy. Gosh darn it TD, what in the world went wrong? The fandom seemed close to perfect when the show first came out, but season two and onward, it's really gotten into anarchy. Shipping wars, character bashing, many other fights going on. TDA put in the sparks to the conflict, TDWT ignited it, TDRotI gave us a bit of a break from the current problems, but with TDAS it just made the problems more bigger than they already were. We already have a love triangle shipping war that tore the fandom in half, characters getting derailed and flanderized, and now we have a new controversy about Mike being offensive towards people with mental disorders. Just...gah, at this rate, the show should probably end just so we can move on to something else. I feel bad saying this about a show I used to really love since I was eleven, but with the fanbase combined with the downhill quality of TD's writing, this has to be said...
8. Adventure Time.
While TD probably should be ranked a bit higher on the list, I do feel that the fanbase isn't that rampant and the problems don't get much attention outside of it. Now I used to kinda like AT when it first came out but then about a month later I pretty much lost interest. Now it's like all popular now and I can't get into it for some reason. The art style and a couple characters annoy me somehow (though this is nitpicky), I feel like it's being shoved down my throat all the time by fans and the Cartoon Network, and the rabid fans tend to be really obnoxious when they treat AT like it's sliced bread. The gender bend stuff is really rampant too, but I do find myself liking Fionna more than Finn himself.
7. Hetalia Axis Powers.
Y'know it's really, really hard to come across something relating to countries without the mentioning of Hetalia popping up. I'm sorry, but it's so rampant that I can't get myself to like it. I'm sorry, I just can't.
6. The Big Four crossover (AKA Rise of the Brave Tangled Dragons).
WHY is this so darn popular? Why should a crossover have this much of a following? I'm so sick of it getting so much attention and praise. I hate the ships (besides Mericcup, I kinda like that one), the fact almost every other character from the four franchises besides the mains are ignored or villainized, the many AUs, and how mean a lot of the fans can be if someone doesn't like it. It's been done to death and isn't fun or interesting anymore. Look, I'm all for crossovers, but there are more better ideas we can come up with for crossovers that can be explored. I'm fine for crossovers having a fandom, just...not this huge. I've heard that it's probably the Big Six now as Anna and Elsa have been included in. Are you gonna this with just about every other popular CGI film that comes out? Add one or two of the main characters into the group of teens/young adults who go on a self-learning adventure? And I thought the Jim/Ariel crossover was rampant, the Big Four makes that crossover almost nonexistant...
5. Pokemon.
Oh, Pokemon. I've loved it for as long as I can remember, still love it, and will likely continue to love it in the future...but man can the fandom be awful sometimes. There's people who complain about everything whether anything's changed or not (in short, some people complain about everything), shipping wars about who Ash should be with, and bashing characters in the anime too (often because of shipping reason). Please stop, Pokemon's a great franchise, I love a lot about it and I don't want the bad apples of the fandom to ruin the fun.
4. My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.
I'm more of a casual fan of the show to be honest, though I can see why people don't like it. But the fandom is huuuge, MLP is involved with just about anything you could think of. There's the insane fans who shove the show down people's throats, some shipping wars, the creepypastas (I hate them personally), some rather invalid character bashing is in there, and of course, fans who complain about everything. Complaining about Twilight becoming an alicorn, Derpy's censorship, Equestria Girls, people treating potential flaws to the point where they become overblown and exaggerated. Ironic since humanizing ponies and making the Mane 6 look like alicorns were popular in the fandom until the show itself did it.
3. Naruto.
I think going through the fanfiction and fanart of this show would each take YEARS. And with every huge fandom, there's going to be problems. LOTS of unnecessary shipping wars in a show where romance is almost never involved, tons of character bashing (especially with poor Sakura...I feel bad for her getting all this flak. I never found her that bad.), and crazy fans shoving it in people's faces. While I think Naruto's fame has died down a bit, it's still a really big fandom that could use a little restraint. It's an okay series, but I wouldn't call it a masterpiece.
2. Sonic the Hedgehog.
No variation of this meme would be complete without the Sonic franchise popping up somewhere. This might be the ultimate flawed fandom fitting every criteria. The insane fans literally do complain about everything, the comics, the games, the anime and cartoon adaptations, the characters, the ships, the recolors, the outfit/design changes, every single thing is going to get a lot of backlash. I like the Sonic series quite a bit, but the hype really needs to calm down.
1. Twilight.
What makes this number one exactly are you asking? Well, Twilight I think is a franchise that deserves nothing. It doesn't deserve it's fans, it's an insult to our human intelligence and morals with terrible bland characters and a horribly toxic, unrealistic relationship that deserves no hype or popularity! How can I like it and actually take this garbage seriously? I know I should respect one's opinion, but I seriously don't get Twilight whatsoever. Who the heck can like this?!

Exactly, I even remember not being into TDA that much when it first came out and forgot most of what happened (besides the Gwent breakup which made me sad...). Heck, TDWT might've ended up being my favorite season if some issues like DJ's plot and some derailment were fixed and if Duncan didn't return and ruin everything. It was going fine so far, then Noah gets eliminated and it's all downhill from there.
Those three episodes were horrid and really tick me off for the exact same reasons. I hope those writers are feeling sorry for what they did and letting most of the fandom down.
All the Mike hate seems a bit sporadic now that you brought that up. But I think it had to do with how he was barely in the game so he shouldn't deserve the win, people finding him bland, how Mal is arguably considered one of the worst TD antagonists, and the reset button. I think the reset button was the last straw for anyone who might've found Mike's mental disorder offensive beforehand and when others realized their point.
While the other fandoms at least have something to enjoy, Twilight doesn't have that distinction at all. It's not just the portrayal of vampires, but mostly it's what horrendous excuses of main characters we got that really makes me hate it.

TDA was also a low point for me since (barring the Gwent issue, which was unbelievable) it was stagnant for the first half, and infuriating during the second half because they replaced Justin with a severely derailed Courtney in an attempt to get the show interesting again.
I feel the same way for TDWT. I just wonder exactly what so many people see in Duncan, I would much rather listen to Noah's witty humor than watch Duncan act like a wannabe thug.
Well I am sure they are feeling sorry about it now since, from what I heard, they were all fired due to the massive critical uproar those episodes caused within the fandom in addition to the overall critical reception of the season as a whole.
And due to all of that crap hitting the fan over him, I also heard that he is most likely not going to be brought back in future seasons.
On the topic of Mal have you ever heard of a fanfic known as Mad Mikey by Rufus. T Serenity?
For the reset button I can easily assume that it was the result of a cop out and major ignorance rather than an outright stab at the mentally disabled since not only would the writers have nothing positive to gain if was intentional, but a move like that would require serious guts, something the new writers seemto lack since the recent seasons have been greatly lacking in the type of adult humor that TDI.
Twilight could be considered no more than literary plague

Did they REALLY have to villainize Courtney in TDA just because Justin was a lame villain so now someone else with decent morals has to lose them like a person shopping on Black Friday for no real reason? Almost everyone seemed to gradually change for the worse too besides Harold and Lindsay (who should be the ideal winners, I might've liked the season a teeny bit more if they did). TDA was rather boring and underwhelming, and this would unfortunately start the decline of the series with the derailment of characters.
I'm far from a Duncan fan, I do question what most people see in someone who WANTS to be bad. I could understand if they found him interesting, but I do feel he doesn't get enough karma and gets a free pass out of certain situations just because he's a bad boy which is considered 'cool'. And when it comes to the Internet, most male characters tend to get much less backlash than female characters which I find really unfair. Noah is miles better and should've at least gone into the merge.
Good, now we need the old writers to fix up this mess and return the characters to what they truly are. I doubt they could get a lot of them back and we'd probably just get more new writers but I certainly hope they know what they're doing...
Since Mike was a finalist and considered an official winner, I don't think we need him to come back (besides probably to fix his character but I doubt you can really patch up the offense issue without complaints. Derpy got complaints before (soccer moms) and after (fans) her 'censorship')
Ehh...I've heard of it from the fans, but haven't read it since I don't really read much fanfiction anymore...
The reset button was a very gimmicky idea to begin with that just feels horribly anticlimactic. But then there's no possible way to press a reset button in your brain and have your mental disorder gone forever. I have mild Asperger's Syndrome, though even if I act relatively normal for the most part, I can sort of see why people would take offense to that. There are people with serious mental issues out there who have trouble functioning and keeping up with other people around them, and that reset button would make all their issues seem like a joke and can be easily gotten rid of, which they aren't.

Actually I am starting to think that them making Courtney the villain to replace Justin was planned during production to be a sort of a plottwist seeing as how it takes about nine months to produce a decent cartoon episode from start to finish. Also I believe that the decline started in the season 1 special, which aired over a year after the original Canadian airing of the TDI finale, since that was when Courtney did an almost complete moral 180 by threatening to kill Owen, Cody, Tyler, and DJ, if they didn't give her the case.
That reminded me of two good things that TDAS gave us: Duncan's karma houdini days runnind out with his arrest (although, it felt hollow since it was because he messed with Chris' lifestyle and he was brought back for the finale), and not bringing Noah back for that season since he would have been most likely derailed which would have cause an even more intense fandom backlash.
I care more about them bring in writers who atleast care about the show and the fandom since one of the four writers of TDAS, Alex G., wrote for the show since TDI. However while she gave us "If You Can't Take The Heat..." back then, she than gave us the TDAS season finale, thus being the one mostly at fault for the reset button controversy.
And to top it off his alternate personalities are gone. I can honestly say that this could easily be a textbook example of irreparable character damage. Other than bringing them back out of the blue, the only way they could be brought back would be if TDAS was completely declared non-canon by pulling the It Was All A Dream trope. Plus, like you said, fans would complain throught the "patch up" process and probably would still even if it was a success thus making the redemption project practically pointless.
Well apparently there is a possibility that the writers ripped off several aspects of that story then they were developing Mal. How it is possible is that, while it is usually the other way around, The first chapter of Mad Mikey was published in June of 2012, over a year before TDAS premiered. Plus both antagonists of Mad Mikey (It) and TDAS (Mal) made a comment about the eyes being the window into the soul that was almost exactly the same word fo word at one point, with the former saying it in the first chapter. While this could be coincidental, I find it hard to believe that the writers who created that lackluster season was able to come up with that deeply meaningful comment on their own. I also heard that there are several other major similarities between the two that can be somewhat hard to find coincidental.
I am in the exact same boat as you so I understand completely. What sickens me is that this is supposed to be an animated reality show for teens, not a typical Seth Macfarlane cartoon where everyone is an acceptable target. I also wonder why they thought that making a character who is almost completely defined by his mental disorder amusing.

I that most people found Courtney's behavior in the special as a heat of the moment kind of thing and thought she would've gone back to normal after it was over, buuuut nope. Did they really have to do that? It's like if they suddenly made Wendy Testaburger as an irredeemable straight-up villain who would be considered worse than Cartman.
The more I think about it, I'm actually kinda glad at this point Lindsay only lasted one episode, who knows how they could've derailed her even more if she stayed longer...Noah and Tyler are probably the few characters who haven't been touched by the derailment finger and actually improved. If they took that away...
There is little to no way that we can really fix Mike's character now. And without the personalities, he hardly has anything to support his character either. Everyone will complain in some way unfortunately...
I've heard about Mad Mikey being brought up through reviews of TDAS, and I do wonder if the writers found out about it and decided to use the idea or if they had the idea from the beginning in season four with the Mal glitch (was he supposed to be like Bloody Gir or something?)...
Seth MacFarlane cartoons are more expected to tackle this kind of stuff and joke about it, plus it's more for an adult audience so they're more prone to going all out on their content. TD however started out more as a teen show but lately feels more for kids now...With that in mind, for TD to do this feels wrong in a very bad way, especially if a lot of kids are going to see it. I do question why CN decided to air the show in the first place. This wasn't something kids should be watching when characters curse a few times, have censored nudity, showing vomit on-screen, etc. That would be pretty risky...But most of that just feels dumbed down now that they're aiming more towards kids and decide to go complete silly cartoon on us. It hardly feels grounded anymore...

Be careful about what you refer to as media, or you could end up confusing people. A medium is an avenue for communication. For instance, film is a medium, as is television. MLP and Twilight are not media; they are specific series on TV or film. Specifically, they are mass media. I suggest using "movies/TV shows" instead of "media." Or even the word "fandom," even though it makes the title a bit redundant. It's still a more accurate descriptor.
As for your analysis, I don't think it's completely fair to call the more popular fandoms the "worst." Many of these shows/movies are justified in having such large fanbases (except Twilight; you were completely right about that one). Which means they're going to have a mix of fans who are the best people you could possibly know, and fans who are just the opposite. If you were familiar with Whovians, you would find they are comparable to bronies in many, many ways. Practically every way, save for the fact that 90% of Whovians are actually part of the target demographic. You're perfectly justified in disliking the ship wars, but again, the more popular a work is, the more shipping it's likely to generate. For my part, I try to stay out of ship wars. I support most canon pairings, while quietly shipping my own extra-canonical/unofficial favorite couples (like Irosami and Linumi; both bordering on Ships that Pass in the Night).
In defense of the bronies, I will say that few other shows or films have inspired their own charities. Not even Doctor Who, despite being connected to the BBC's favorite charity and having at least one past lead who is actively involved in a worthy cause himself (Colin Baker, who supports research into preventing Sudden Infant Death Syndrome). MLP has at least three charities named for it and started by fans of the show. Bronies are also the only fans I'm aware of who will actively support fans going through medical or social struggles without first requiring a call to arms from the show cast or staff.

Well, the other times this meme was used was for virtually any franchise or fandom out there.
I've tried to refrain from using all popular fandoms, I know not all of them are bad, but these ones I feel have more bad fans that I see complain more and act childish about mundane things. I know there are many good fans of these fandoms, but the bad apples are easy to come across too.
I know fighting over ships is common, especially in larger fandoms, but it depends on how much the shipping wars go out of hand and the different sides constantly harass one another for some silly shipping opinion. We may not agree, but we don't need to have the other side suffer for it just out of spite.
Again, there are good MLP fans, but that doesn't mean it has no fair share of bad fans who give the fandom a bit of a bad reputation. The ones who harass the MLP haters mainly, getting into an immature fit when someone disagrees with them on a certain topic regarding the show such as who they think is the best pony, etc.

I'm in the Pokemon, TD, Atla/LoK and Adventure Time fandoms, and I totally agree. The MLP fandom has always pissed me off, and I refuse to watch the show because of how awful the show is.
Like, 2 years ago, I complained that the only reason why PB was turned into a 13 year old was to please the shippers, and how the show turned into fans ervice for the crazy shippers. Once they introduced Flame Princess, the show became more of a love story, than an adventure show. Of course, all the fan girls got pissed at me for insulting PB despite her being my fave (i still just think she was only 13 so the fans could ship her with finn). I also mentioned how I didn't see the point in Fionna and Cake and the backlash I got from it's 500,000 fans was so intolerable, I left the fandom for a year or so.

Oops! That was a typo. I meant to say "and I refuse to watch the show because of how awful the FANDOM is."
I've never watched MLP, but a good chunk of the bronies I encounter are terrible, terrible people. Not to mention some have this annoying habit of cramming MLP into every other tv show or movie. If I were to google any Tv show, movie, book or video game right now, I guarentee one of the first results would be an image of the cast ponified. After a while it gets irritating to look at.

Ehh...I could understand the dislike towards MLP. Those immature fans pretty much give the shows AND ponies a bad name.
With all this AT stuff going on, the romance stuff did seem a bit too pandering and I wasn't really familiar with Flame Princess to have an opinion on her. Fionna and Cake really doesn't seem that special, I mean, it's just a gender bend version of the actual show. Is gender bending really that darn great? I mean, gender bending isn't a bad idea, but I don't think it deserves that much hype. The whole making Princess Bubblegum turning thirteen thing as some fuel for FxPB makes sense, I wouldn't be surprised if it actually is true...

Lion King fanbrats are so rabid I can't even watch the movie anymore. Also I've seen things get "harry" in the Harry Potter fandom. The WORST fandom with the WORST fanbrats IMO is Star Treck, especially the ST vs SW nonsense. But yes, all of those shows/movies have terrible fanbases. Not all of them are fanbrats, but enough are that it gives the entire fandom a bad rep.

It's mainly the overhype of it I see, I haven't really seen the shipping wars going on. Is it Kristanna vs. Hanna and/or Helsa vs. Jelsa type of stuff? My only real problem with Frozen is it's too overhyped, it's a fine movie, just not that great as everyone makes it out to be and there's better movies out there. Heck, I do think Let it Go is a good song, but I really agree it's everywhere and it is pretty annoying to hear it all the time. There is some great fanart, but I think there's tons of it and it should die down so we can find something new.

The MLP fandom was a lot better before it became "trendy" to be a brony. Back then you were kind of a dork if you liked this show, if you were a brony, you were probably really nice and awesome to be around. Nowadays most bronies are actually really freaking mean, they say "love and tolerate" but they don't practice it. They act like they still get the hate they used to when they don't, and they end up just flaunting their broniness arrogantly and needlessly. I'm an ex-brony myself, although I still like the show and many parts of the fandom still cling to me (background ponies and brony music, mainly) and I still love the veteran bronies like TheLivingTombstone and WoodenToaster, but the majority of the post season 2 bronies are just awful.

My Little Pony did seem better before season three kicked in, I still kinda like it but the fanbase has really started to become incredibly sour lately.
From what I've seen of season three and onwards, the writing of the show seems a bit off to me for some reason. I'm not sure why or even if it's really worth complaining about though...

When I saw the title I just immediately knew the sonic the hedgehog fandom would be on here
That video game just disturbs me in general tbh

Sonic being on these types of memes should be required considering the fandom. The games are fine though, just the crazy fans tend to give Sonic a bad name...

I agree with you about number one. My cousin enjoys the books and not the movies, I just stay completely out of the way. XD

This was a surprisingly unoffensive list. Most lists like these are simply made for people to bash shows they don't like, and give some totally BS reasons. But the problems you have with these fandoms are legitimate and completely understandable.
I guess I only disagree with two. The first in Naruto, and even with that I don't completely disagree with you. The shipping wars are pretty freaking stupid, especially with what little romance there is in the show. I just don't like Sakura. It's not that I find her useless, she's become powerful in her own right. I just think she's completely under used. It's not really her fault, but the author's. It's like every time she's supposed to have character development, something happens that makes that development irrelevant. When they fight the Jubi, she unlocks a knew technique and talks about how she won't be a burden for Naruto and Sasuke anymore. Was a really cool moment. Then it gets totally ruined by them having to save her. It was just annoying. But your right, she doesn't deserve the hate, the author does.
The other is with the Big Four Crossover. Putting aside the fact that I like the crossover, I can't really be mad at something for having a large fanbase, not if it's decent/good anyway. I mean it's not terrible like twilight, all the movies range from good to great, so I really don't see it as a problem. I guess most people just see it as some good fun. I know there are some fans that probably harass people who don't like it, just like every fandom, but what usually tics me off is the people who go out of their way to declare they don't like it. If you don't like it, that's fine. But why do you have to ruin the fun for everyone else. (I'm not saying you are, like I said, unoffensive.)
Twilight... you're a hundred percent right. It's garbage. Nothing good to be said about it.
Overall a great list and some great points.

Thank you very much for that comment, very huge and brings up a lot to talk about.
Naruto isn't really one of my favorites, it's more in my okay tier so I probably haven't dug that deep into it.
I'm just not really a fan of fanmade ideas getting this much attention on the Internet, and because of how much the crossover's been done I'm rather tired of seeing it. I only really like two of the movies (HtTyD and Tangled), RofG was okay, and Brave kinda disappointed me (plus I'm not really a fan of Merida...). I dunno, something about a crossover getting this much hype just irks me for some reason...
Exactly...

Pokemon, TD, and MLP? If Thomas was on this list I would of hit the ceiling. Seeing thoughs 4 shows on this list would have enraged me. Plus, I agree with you on Twilight.
