Description
I'm trying to learn how to cat again, and it sure ain't easy. So please do yourself a favour and like, don't study this too much, the lines are sooo messy and ugly I don't even know where to begin. xDAnyway, I'll just lean back and watch the shock spread on your features at my new sketches lol~ I can almost hear the collective gasps of outrage and "you didn't!!!"
Okay not quite. From time to time, a brat or two tries to tell me what I can and cannot do with warrior cats and genetics. And the funny thing is, the more I get told off, the more annoyed I get - the more I want to "genetify" these furballs. Suffice to say, telling me off and accusing me of ruining canon is counter-effective. uvo
Aside from that, I gave myself a challenge. Before, when I redesigned warriors, I did so by focusing on which characters' canon designs I favoured. Like, say I favour Squirrelflight's coat the most, that means every ancestor of hers has to bend to the rules of genetics in order to preserve her design.
This time, I started by redesigning from the top down. Like, say the first ancestor is Nutmeg, alright, she's brown tabby-and-white. Then every offspring of hers has to reflect that, not the other way around. And so on. It was REALLY addictive so now I'm halfway through my family tree already. (Yeah I'm crazy trust me I know xD)
(You could also call this newest redesign batch "how to nullify the meaning of a character's name 101" like oupsies Tigerclaw, so much for your striping)
EDIT: I was too sleepy yesterday to write any explanations on their designs, but please allow me to do so now.
Tigerclaw - solid black longhair. Being the son of two solid-coloureds, he cannot genetically retain his stripes. Sucks for him, but I admit I find this solid black version of his to be sliiightly more handsome. xD
Whitestorm - black silver tabby and white longhair. He's got longhaired parents, and Snowfur will be silver something (thanks to Moonflower, and it's the only thing that explains her dark ears) by which Whitestorm inherits his silver. However, he cannot be pure white bc he has only one white spotted parent (Thistleclaw) and so he can only be partly white coloured. He's still pretty handsome tho hehe.
Willowpelt - blue mink colourpoint shorthair. She's... pretty original-looking now. Since she's canonically blue, it wasn't too farfetched actually. And colourpoint is recessive so it can hide for generations. ALSO - she now salvages her "unusual blue eyes." ;w;
Cinderpelt - solid black longhair. Since in this redesign there is no silver to be gotten hold of in her family, she goes from black smoke to solid black. I still kept her dark green eyes tho, she's not the same without em. :3
Goldenflower - light amber non-tabby shorthair. She's basically the non-tortie version of her WR redesgin. There's still lots of amber in her family, which meant I was able to keep her looking like a light golden cat yay~
Sandstorm - lilac tabby shorthair. Now with parents that aren't carriers of red (Redtail's tortie coat is due to chimerism, so he doesn't breed true for red) she cannot be cream either - so I went with lilac instead. It's a recessive gene, and looks sandy enough that she reflects well on her name. Actually I am growing SO fond of it omg.
Firestar - ruddy ticked tabby shorthair. He's almost like he's been, except he's black-based instead of red-based this time around. Since Nutmeg doesn't carry red, he can't either.

What inspired you to make Whitestorm a tabby all of a sudden? I mean his mother is white, so him being white would not be genetically incorrect, would it? o:
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
KittyStorage In reply to Roseruu [2017-03-30 12:05:38 +0000 UTC]
Well, thing is his mother isn't a realistic outcome for her parents anyhow (Moonflower and Stormtail are both non-whites) so she can't be a solid white no matter what, which also voids the idea of Whitestorm being white too. And he gets his tabby from his father, since I still made him silver it was either black silver tabby, or black silver smoke, and he looks more... white-ish by being a tabby. xD

Soroneir In reply to ??? [2017-03-30 01:49:48 +0000 UTC]
That sounds like a really fun way to go about it!! Almost like you're breeding the parents yourself and just seeing what happens. But wow, those are some interesting results.
My take on Tigerstar is that cats can be named after attributes that the ancestral species represent. If I recall correctly, wasn't he named for strength because he was a weak kit? Or was he named solely for his stripes and just grew into the name? Then there's also Leopardfoot, who looks nothing like a leopard (yeah I know there's the "black panther" thing, but they aren't representative of the species), but her name gives the impression of the lithe and stealthy animal leopards are.

KittyStorage In reply to Soroneir [2017-03-30 12:00:34 +0000 UTC]
It really is, it sort of feels like I do kinda breed them myself - and it's a challenge to try to salvage those who suddenly become genetically unobtainable.
That's a great idea actually. And yeah, Leopardfoot's a nod to that theory too, since she's nothing like a real-life leopard (save panthers, but if the erins wanted the cats to know about them surely they'd have named her Pantherfoot instead lol) very smart ideas indeed. :3

I would love to see those people who tell you off, they are probably the same idiots who worship the Erins...but dang, Goldenflower looks like she could be Sandstorm's sister. I used to be confused by how both were pale ginger.
An interesting project, but I love your official genetic designs. Tortie Goldenflower rules!
??? No explaination? I'm really curious about what Willowpelt has going on.

KittyStorage In reply to KalahariMeerkatfan [2017-03-30 11:59:00 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, probably. But seriously, they ought to continue to tell me off, because I seem to pull nice results from it lol. xD Though I'm amazed how people can be so crazy as to worship that gang of idiotic authors, ugh.
Aye, they're still a little similar, courtesy of the dilution gene mostly lol.
And now with proper explanations too - I was simply too sleepy last night to add them. x3

There is nothing to be done for most of them, but I no longer let myself be affected by that new crap being spewed (because I know the truth)...but I love your warrior name for Sorrelpaw (Deadfoot's sister). Anything is better than Sorrelcharm...ew. But you take no shit from them, keep it up and we will support you.
Wow...Lilac Sand (that would be a nice warrior name XD) looks so much like her normal cream self that it fooled me (and I am guessing it may have fooled others too).
I am curious, how did Willowpelt come to be? I love the idea of her being a color point (because the series has a serious lack of them). But I think I like her tortie form just a bit more (I love torties).

KittyStorage In reply to KalahariMeerkatfan [2017-03-31 22:47:57 +0000 UTC]
I'm like, conveniently ignoring whatever they cook up next, you may as well expect the worst and STILL they somehow manage to surprise you... (Gosh yes, I CRINGE at the name Sorrelcharm that's such a sparkle name blew. ) I'll do my best.
It could actually be one, yeah haha. xD That may well be, the three dilute colours (cream, fawn and lilac) vary a lot, and in some cases, look pretty darn similar too it's a headache to filter the google searches at times.
Well, colourpoint Willowpelt came into being when I told myself it was the one way to preserve her blue eyes without giving her white spotting (though yes, her tortie looks are beautiful too~ tho to be honest, the less torties I have to paint, the luckier I count myself xD)

Vicky actually replied to one of my things...I was asking her why we are now having cats being forced into the role of MC when they clearly want to be warriors. But I think she only read part of my first question because she said StarClan knew better than kits...bullshit to that, Leafpool and Willowshine acted like they knew what job they wanted while they were still in the nursery.
The fact she answered is a surprise, but bleh...kits are like children I know. But some kids firmly know what they want in life, regardless of what a bunch of dead cats think. Kind of funny that she would gladly be a medicine cat, I don't think I would want her treating me (I rather deal with Yellowfang).
Fawn and Lilac are both black-based, right? I keep trying to remember which dilutes go with which base coat, but there is so many things to remember. This is the dilute of this, that is the dilute to this...regardless of if she were fawn or lilac, would the designs you got for Squirrel and Leaf still be the same?
It does fit the 'very pale gray' too. Will Rainwhisker or Sootfur also be color points?
Actually fun fact if every blue-eyed, gray cat were color point...I wonder how many people would you piss off. But really no need. Color point, munchkin (found something on tumblr who suggested an AU where all the villains are munchkin cats XD), who gives a damn.
Whitestorm actually has me intrigued. In certain lighting does the large amount of white on him end up kind of creating an illusion that he solid white?
Actually I might need your opinion. If a cat has smoke, can they somewhat appear white in certain conditions?

I wouldn't worry about those people that try to correct your 'gene logic'. These cats know what leopards and tigers are, but not a car.
(Sure they are part of the cat family, but how would they know the exact terminology that people use for these creatures?)
Your designs are incredible!! Just keep doing what you do!
