Description
I'm trying to learn how to cat again, and it sure ain't easy. So please do yourself a favour and like, don't study this too much, the lines are sooo messy and ugly I don't even know where to begin. xDAnyway, I'll just lean back and watch the shock spread on your features at my new sketches lol~ I can almost hear the collective gasps of outrage and "you didn't!!!"
Okay not quite. From time to time, a brat or two tries to tell me what I can and cannot do with warrior cats and genetics. And the funny thing is, the more I get told off, the more annoyed I get - the more I want to "genetify" these furballs. Suffice to say, telling me off and accusing me of ruining canon is counter-effective. uvo
Aside from that, I gave myself a challenge. Before, when I redesigned warriors, I did so by focusing on which characters' canon designs I favoured. Like, say I favour Squirrelflight's coat the most, that means every ancestor of hers has to bend to the rules of genetics in order to preserve her design.
This time, I started by redesigning from the top down. Like, say the first ancestor is Nutmeg, alright, she's brown tabby-and-white. Then every offspring of hers has to reflect that, not the other way around. And so on. It was REALLY addictive so now I'm halfway through my family tree already. (Yeah I'm crazy trust me I know xD)
(You could also call this newest redesign batch "how to nullify the meaning of a character's name 101" like oupsies Tigerclaw, so much for your striping)
EDIT: I was too sleepy yesterday to write any explanations on their designs, but please allow me to do so now.
Tigerclaw - solid black longhair. Being the son of two solid-coloureds, he cannot genetically retain his stripes. Sucks for him, but I admit I find this solid black version of his to be sliiightly more handsome. xD
Whitestorm - black silver tabby and white longhair. He's got longhaired parents, and Snowfur will be silver something (thanks to Moonflower, and it's the only thing that explains her dark ears) by which Whitestorm inherits his silver. However, he cannot be pure white bc he has only one white spotted parent (Thistleclaw) and so he can only be partly white coloured. He's still pretty handsome tho hehe.
Willowpelt - blue mink colourpoint shorthair. She's... pretty original-looking now. Since she's canonically blue, it wasn't too farfetched actually. And colourpoint is recessive so it can hide for generations. ALSO - she now salvages her "unusual blue eyes." ;w;
Cinderpelt - solid black longhair. Since in this redesign there is no silver to be gotten hold of in her family, she goes from black smoke to solid black. I still kept her dark green eyes tho, she's not the same without em. :3
Goldenflower - light amber non-tabby shorthair. She's basically the non-tortie version of her WR redesgin. There's still lots of amber in her family, which meant I was able to keep her looking like a light golden cat yay~
Sandstorm - lilac tabby shorthair. Now with parents that aren't carriers of red (Redtail's tortie coat is due to chimerism, so he doesn't breed true for red) she cannot be cream either - so I went with lilac instead. It's a recessive gene, and looks sandy enough that she reflects well on her name. Actually I am growing SO fond of it omg.
Firestar - ruddy ticked tabby shorthair. He's almost like he's been, except he's black-based instead of red-based this time around. Since Nutmeg doesn't carry red, he can't either.

My explanation for a stripeless cat being named Tigerclaw: the clan cats have never seen a tiger and don't even know that it would have stripes. He could have been named for his fierce demeanor rather than his appearance.

Baw, perhaps Tiger was a ghost tabby as a kitten, so Leopard was none the wiser when naming her son that. BAM! EXCUSE! ;D

Imagine when the other Clans first hear of this fierce little apprentice of ThunderClan, all expecting a tabby when he shows up at a Gathering. X3 Maybe he'd strut around in sunlight to try and give the illusion of stripes... Oh, maybe he's got a fair bit of rusting due to that, so as he ages he eventually looks brown-ish, in some areas, and thus gets closer to his name?

I am digging this more and more, what an epic idea for a first-time gathering omg. He's so proud of his name and all these cats with the impression it'll be a tabby will be like "whuuuut" when he shows up aaah yes~ And you're right, with some rusting his ghost tabby will be more prominent and that should help things quite a lot. :3

Hheheheheh:
"Then why are you named Tigerpaw if you don't have any stripes?"
Under the curious gazes of the trio of RiverClan cats, Tigerpaw's fur spiked to hide his humiliation. "It's for my bravery, and my strength," he crowed, gaining a nod of approval from Thistleclaw. Thus encouraged, the young tom added: "Anyways, you just can't see them now; they're there in the sunlight, clear as day!"
A young, ruddy tom chuckled, giving Thistleclaw a look as he wrapped his tail around his paws. "I'll take your word for it, then."
Why did I write this I dunno but random Oakheart is a good Oakheart

X3 Speaking of! Any idea how Oak and fam's coats will change? Will Bluestar even be able to be blue? And I gather that Snowfur won't look quite so snowy anymore, hmm?

Hehe, we of course there will be lots of changes here too~ Oak's family gets off mostly unscathed (his father's a silver tabby in my mind which saves Oak from going dilute like his bro yay) and Blue too, is still able to be blue-coloured. Snowfur however... I suppose silver tabby colourpoint is quite the radical change compared to her former white coat eh? uvo

A silvered point??? =o I don't think I've ever seen one before; must still be gorgeous, though; would she start off white as points do, in that case? That could still give her the 'snow' name. We always gotta think about what the kits are like at birth, after all; mom can't predict that her pure white baby will have fiery red points two years later, after all... unless cats begin to notice genetic trends like that, like the baby blue eyes.
ANOTHER SCENE! I forget when Thistle and his siblings were born, so forgive me if he'd have seen snow as a kit.
Thistleclaw was hot on his apprentice's heels as Tigerpaw tried his best to make a dignified exit; judging by the murmurs that followed him, though, those queens had thought he fled the scene. "Tigerpaw!" snapped the Warrior, yet the black tom didn't even flinch at his mentor's tone, instead rounding a bend to stop near the brook, chest heaving for breath.
Of course Thistleclaw found him with no difficulty, his odd fur seeming almost scary in the moonlight. For a moment, Tigerpaw flinched away, remembering how harsh the older tom could be when displeased.
"Tigerpaw," he repeated, but this time there was no growl to his voice. Instead of glaring down and berating the young cat for acting so shamefully, he settled down beside him, amber eyes focused on the fluffy cat as he, in turn, watched the stream's rippling current.
Thistleclaw sighed, and in the distorted reflection, Tigerpaw could almost see him smile.
"You might not remember her, I doubt you could... but Whitepaw's mother, Snowfur, was born pure white," he began quietly.
"My mother said she was one of the most beautiful kits she'd ever seen, with a clear, smooth coat that matched her soft blue eyes."
The tom shook his head, dipping it to take a lick at his chest fur. "That wasn't how I first saw her, though. She had these silvery marks on her face and tail, and her ears were darker, too. I asked her, 'How can you be a Snowpaw? You just look dirty!'"
There was silence. Then, "What happened? What did she do?" Tigerpaw asked, turning, finally, to see an almost misty sheen to his mentor's eyes. To see Thistleclaw, so brave, so strong, seem fragile, almost scared the apprentice, yet his curiosity begged to hear the end of the tale.
"Her sister slapped me, hard," Thistleclaw huffed, yet a toothy grin danced on his features. "And I remember actually feeling bad for the first time in my life. And I was wrong for the first time too; as we grew up, I just kept the same coat I had, the one you see here."
He shrugged his shoulders, looking away, towards the sky. "But Snowfur... she became more and more beautiful as the years went by, and when I saw snow for the first time, I realized she was more like her name than any other white cat ever could be... every shade and shadow, perfect on her pelt."
"And your pelt, no matter how it has or will changed, will only lend itself to your name... mark my words, kit," Thistleclaw's dreamy tone suddenly became fierce, and Tigerpaw felt a new fire in his veins as a dream was presented for him:
"You'll be ruddy as blood in the sunlight, and dark as a shadow under the night; who were the tigers if not courageous and fierce warriors? What can this pelt do, but lend you aid in becoming the tales themselves? Cats of all the Clans will dread facing you in in battle, not quite knowing what you will look like, but they'll recognize you thanks to your scars and skills in the fight."
With one heavy paw, the tom shoved his apprentice, who staggered to his feet almost on instinct. He could see the gleam in his eyes reflected in Thistleclaw's, and there was something fierce to it.
"Now get back out there, Tigerpaw, and make your history start now."
[what the heck is this I NEED TO GO TO CLASS AAHHHHHHHHHHHH]
