Description
Meet Annabel.Annabel likes pretty things like butterflies and flowers and clouds shaped like teddy bears. She'll only wear frilly dresses and she is quite particular about always looking prim and proper. Annabel doesn't like stinky boys (they have cooties) or mud.
Annabel is made out of lovely soft white velvet and stuffed with rags (strips of an old sheet) and polyfill. Her belly button is a vintage button and her nose and eyes are embroidered.
Annabel is wearing a hand smocked cotton dress with ribbon ties and button detail. She has a harebow that slips around her ear with an elastic band. Her shoes are dark brown felt with little decorative buttons on them.
Here are some detail shots of Annabel:

all very cute I'm just curious - how did you do the pink patches on her cheeks?

The secret to the rag-pets' blush is Copic markers ([link] ). I used to do it by hand, drawing the blush on and then using a blender to fade the edges which was difficult and above all very, very slow. Then I got an airbrush system for my Copics ([link] ) for my birthday and suddenly it all got super easy & quick.
Ella ([link] ) is the first rag-pet I've finished with airbrushed blush.

aaaaah I see, I own markers very much like them, but it sounds like an airbrush system would be very expensive!
thanks very much as always

You could also try doing blush with chalk pastels (not quite sure if that's the correct english term for them). With a sharp knife scratch the chalk to get powder, and then with a soft brush, a q-tip or even your fingertip apply the blush (bigger plushie = bigger applicator). You can then smudge it as needed.
Using chalk pastels you just have to be a little more careful with the end product, as I've yet to discover anything that'd "fix" them to the fabric and so they can rub off or spread a bit as a result.
Come to that, you might be able to use human blusher as well... I think it's just a matter of trying things out really.
Oh, and remember to do a few tests on some scraps before you start on your actual plushie though, that way you won't lose any work should things not work. I always apply blush before I put anything together, so if it should go horribly wrong I just have to re-cut the one piece.

hmmm yep! you're absolutely right, and it was really far too nice of you to go to all this effort, but thanks so much - you're really such a nice person

It was no effort at all, I've been at the blushing plushies thing for a good long time now, and it's always nice to get to share the knowledge.

My mom would love this little bunny.
She's made something similar, she used a spraybottle full of coffee to make it look all vintagy.
What did you do to color her cheeks?

I use markers for the blush. It's slow work and it's hard to get the colour even, but the end result it lovely.
If I ever have the means, I'll get an airbursh so blushing will be quicker and easier.

Oh yes, the blush is important.
While it's a bit of a pain to do, it looks so cute it's more than worth all the bother.

I used to have a dress with that kind of pleated fabric stuff on it when I was younger... Someone already snatched her up? That's so fantastic... I'm kinda jealous cause I was kinda thinking hard about getting her... I like girly girly dolls. Are you planning on making more?
She's totally right, though, boys are major cootie machines.

Annabel went super fast and yes, I am making more.
I used to have a smocked summer dress like Annabel's as a kid too. My gran made it for me and apparently I really liked it (I was too young then to actually remember it now).

My mom made mine. It was green and had pinky-red cherries on it. May I peak and ask what animals? Will you be making a rat girl?

Mine was a sort of 70's beige-y colour with light blue flowers and green leaves.
I'm currently working on a rag-dog and I have a giraffe and a mouse and some more cats lined up. Basically I can make pretty much any animal by modifying the base pattern.
