...another tutorial [on marker techniques]

______________________

I have been working on this tutorial for the last 4 weeks, I think; on and off. Phew, and I am really happy that I managed to finish it. It took me some time to compile it all.

I wanted to have it done much earlier but I couldn't for various reasons. Now I can work on some other stuff again. ^^

You can download the tutorial if you want. I hope it's helpful and I didn't talk any gibberish.

Be careful though, the filesize is huge! ^^Β°

Feedback is always appreciated! ^^

I'm still learning how to use copic markers and I have a lot of trouble with warmer and darker skin tones -- so I thank you greatly for this tutorial.

Yeah well, I don't particularly feel like staring at naked women, especially considering DA was pretty rough on me when I had a link to a picture of boys kissing.

You are very welcome. I really appreciated the attention you gave to the technical details that are very important for successfully coloring with copics and often are left out of tutorials.

I would try this...If I actually had copic markers. Or any type of marker, really. Photoshop will have to do for now.

Is it ok if I ask what kind of frisket you used? Is it like the ones for watercolor or different? If different, what brand did you buy xD?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

KiwiChameleon In reply to 88bluemelon [2011-05-21 11:46:45 +0000 UTC]

That's a perfectly fine question. The frisket is called "Original Frisket Film by SIM air". I bought it because of the airbrush, but I'm sure that it can be used with watercolour too.

Every time I see a copic marker tutorial I want to buy them.. but they are so expensive but this is such an awesome tutorial and beautiful result!! I'm almost convinced o.O

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 3

KiwiChameleon In reply to Paulbosch [2011-05-21 11:50:31 +0000 UTC]

Thank you very much. ^^ There are some cheaper Copic markers around called "Copic ciao". Maybe you have some luck with them. They have the same nibs like the Copic sketch (broad nib and brush), but are cheaper because they don't hold as much ink. You can also get them in sets, which makes them great for beginners.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Paulbosch In reply to KiwiChameleon [2011-05-21 12:38:58 +0000 UTC]

OkΓ© I'll look out for them We only have about 1 or 2 shops here in the netherlands that sell them though.. I might as well get them second hand.. I'll see, anyway thanks for the advice and keep up the good work ^^

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

KiwiChameleon In reply to Paulbosch [2011-05-21 12:56:57 +0000 UTC]

Oh, Netherlands... I know a good shop in Germany which sells Copic markers over the internet as well, and they have got the best prices for Copics I've ever seen. I frequently buy there.
The shipping isn't the cheapest (outside of Germany), though if you buy a bunch, you might be well off. Let me know if that sounds alright for you.

bechahns In reply to Paulbosch [2011-05-20 15:49:38 +0000 UTC]

you can totally achieve the same effects with cheaper markers, so I wouldn't worry. I know the copic sketch markers have that -enticing- brush tip but you can develop techniques to achieve the same effect with others, it's all about practise.

Also, I'm preparing for people to angrily disagree with me on this but tbh, quality should have nothing to do with how expensive art materials are. I'd say it's rather how you use them...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 2

Paulbosch In reply to bechahns [2011-05-21 08:34:47 +0000 UTC]

hehe you're probably right xD However what should I buy then? Usually I wait untill I have a lot of money and then buy the best, because I always want quality..

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

bechahns In reply to Paulbosch [2011-05-21 14:57:51 +0000 UTC]

Hmm well it is up to you if you want copics or not, if you think you wouldn't be happy unless you have the best ones then probably save up for those. I have prismacolor markers and they are really good. Still fairly expensive but nowhere near as much as copics. There are also other kinds, like tria or letraset... like I said, I think a drawing's quality has more to do with the person drawing than what they are using.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Paulbosch In reply to bechahns [2011-05-21 17:53:21 +0000 UTC]

In the end that's of course what it's all about, someone's drawing skills and technique.. But I don't like the idea of buying something to find out I still want the better ones if you see what I mean.. I don't know.. I'll see for now, keep it at digital art for now. Next year I'll start the study industrial design and I'll be drawing a lot there, I'll see what I will need there, but thanks for your advice so far!

bechahns In reply to bechahns [2011-05-20 15:50:53 +0000 UTC]

unless of course you're trying to draw with like, 99p store colouring pencils.... then I'd say fork out a BIT more money xD
