This is a portrait of Liriel, the maiden of Starlight and Shadows in Elaine Cunningham’s books. She a Drow from the Underdark, one of the dark elves from the Forgotten Realms. She has the ebony skin and white hair of all Drow, but she has unusual amber eyes rather than the normal red. I have pictured her at the beginning of the series while she still has strong bonds to Lolth the evil Spider Queen, but for the first time she is discovering the beauty of the surface world.
To represent her ties to Lolth I used images of dew drops on a spider web to create her jewelry, and the silver net over her upper torso. As the original model had very curly hair falling over her brow I had to use another model for the forehead, temples and hair. It is a real challenge blending stark white hair with very dark skin, and I hope my technique has worked.
This manip was almost all made on a borrowed PC, with a slightly unfamiliar version of Photoshop, and none of my usual plug-ins. I also had to use a mouse I find really awkward – so be forgiving when you look at it
