Description
Witchazel is a character of mine - a half-elven druid who sometimes veers a little more to the evil side of the balance. I wanted to create an image of a woman in believable and usable leather armour (definitely no leather lingerie!), carrying a carved wooden staff that magically sprouts living witch hazel blossoms. I started with what is actually a very masculine image (wonderful leather armour modeled by the very manly Thomas). This made for a lot of work; but the colours and design were simply perfect. Most of the work I’ve done is fairly obvious, but more subtle changes include tweaks to the expression, and a lot of work to reconfigure her hair.Detail of the face and armour motif - [link]
There are a lot of source links here, but believe me they are worth following up.

It was almost a case of no choice ... it's really hard to find woman in armour without the whole metal bikini thing

Hiya! here to critique! (Sorry about the enormous wait, there were so many responses! I still have more than 100 to go, not counting the disqualified people who posted 3+ pics/collabs! ><
One comment I have to make regarding pics made of stock-I generally consider them collaborations. The only reason I chose to critique this one was because there was so much photo-editing and work that was done by you that I consider it a full work of art, it would take me months to do that. (Not that I have the patience or time for that these days...)
So lets begin!
First the bad.
*The ear doesn't look like it belongs...at all. It would have been better to leave it out/edit hair to flow over it. It is too low of a resolution, it is blurry...etc.
*The position of the staff is a bit awkward. It is going right up against the inner thigh...that is a bit too risque...
*The stick is casting a bit of shadow, but the flowers are not. I can understand refraction of light, and how flowers would give a blurry shadow, but I don't see one for the flowers on the staff.
*This last negative is the most awkward...did you remember to edit the pants? Girls don't exactly have 'stuff' down there to give off such a bulge....
[awkward silence...crickets chirp...]
Anyways! Onto the good!
*I can't believe you turned a boy into a girl. 0.o Did the original artist see this/comment on this? ^-^ That must be beyond strange to see such a thing, especially if he/she is/knows the model. ^-^
*The blending of multiple stock was smooth, and relatively seamless.
*You effectively created something entirely new out of multiple old things-you are an artist! ^_^
Overall this pic is really a great photo-edit, I give it a 4.5/5 I only wish you had fixed the whole ' pants situation '...
The worst part was that it wasn't me who pointed it out, it was my boyfriend. He thought I was staring at a cross dresser and was typing him a message.
...
Awkward.
He now thinks I'm a freak.
I'm gonna make him cross-dress now, and he'll have YOU to blame. ^-^

Many thanks for such a detailed and helful critique. I'm not making any changes for the while as I'm not sure I can succesfully unravel all the layers.

I can understand the sentiment, I hate going back because I never name the layers. ^_^ Still an amazing edit overall. ^_^

Thanks muchly. Thats a big part of what I try to do with my art, mix the fantastical with photorealism, so your comment gives me a great buzz.

You've made my evening with this comment. I'm a complete LOTR nut, and that's exactly the kind of feel I was aiming at. HUGE grin from me!
