Description
Y'know those cheap wooden boxes they sell at the Dollar Store? I bought one and did this to it.It's my first ever solo-craft project in a looonnnggg time, so it's by no means perfect. Here's how I did it:
Items
- One wooden box.
- small wooden squares; I bought a package of them at the Dollar Store. They had to be trimmed and sanded, so I went through a few before getting just the right size.
- gesso or primer; they didn't have primer at the store, but the girl who worked there said gesso would work in place of primer for a wooden box.
- paint (I used acrylic); for this I used dark blue, black, and white paints.
- matte finish.
- pack of white circles for labelling (their use is apparent on the inside, which you can see here: [link] ).
1) Sanded box, wiped down.
2) Painted box with gesso, let it dry.
3) Sanded box, wiped down again.
4) Gesso'd box again, let it dry.
5) Painted top, sides outside of box with dark blue acrylic paint, let it dry.
6) Painted top, sides outside of box again with dark blue acrylic paint, let it dry.
7) Painted bottom of box, let it dry.
8) Painted bottom of box again, let it dry.
For the windows, I painted the squares with gesso, then white paint, then used a ruler and a simple black pen to draw lines for the windows. Finally I glued them to the front of the box.
For the signs ("Police Box" and "Pull To Open"), I printed off very small versions from one of the TARDIS pictures on the internet. I glued the "Pull To Open" sign to another slightly smaller square, and glued that square to the front of the box. I painted a black line at the top of the box and then glued the "Police Box" sign over it.
And of course, once all the painting was done, I covered it in a matte finish.
For the door seperation line, handles, key hole and other squares on the door, I used a pencil, though I may go over these again in a brighter colour.
I decided not to put a light on top because a) I couldn't figure out how to do it and b) since it's a box having something sticking out of the top might make it hard to store it in the future. But who knows, I may change my mind later.

I wish, that would be awesome. I put a TARDIS Pull To Open sign on my closet door. Of course now I'm always disappointed when I open them and find just my clothes staring back at me.

Thank you! it's quite easy to do (just takes a lot of time and patience), so you could always make one for your fiance.
