Description I'm not even going to pretend that I'd accept any pairing for Jean or Scott except each other. So, for this year's annual display of how much more into fictional romance than the real life version I am, there seemed to be no better subjects for me than these two (especially since they're both adults and alive at the same time for the first time in a while). I mean, I think it's pretty rare that we get images of them together, just enjoying one another. Plenty of images of them superheroing and saving the world together, but not just.... together. I was aiming for "Adorably in Love," but given the look Jean is giving Scott, I may have hit on something more intense.

I'm not thrilled with Jean's left hand, but I'm pretty sure I could have worked on this for another twenty years and wouldn't get it any better, so here we are. I do like how her hair turned out, though, and I don't usually do straight, long hair. (Fun fact: I actually prefer her banged looks, but in this setup they would have blocked her eyes, so... nope.)

Anyhow, I hope I did these two justice. Any comments, tips, or critiques are welcome and appreciated!

And happy Valentines Day!

Disclaimer: I’m red-green colorblind. Because of this, it’s difficult for me to tell similar shades/hues of different colors apart, and, therefore, I need to work with very limited palettes when I color pieces. For shading and highlights, I’ll start with a gray base and lighten or darken shades from there, and then add a color overlay (and, for some skin tones, attempt to add a blue overlay to make it less “hot”). I’ve often been told to be bolder in my highlighting and shading, and I’m trying to be so, but… sometimes it still seems pretty tame. I’m just saying this in case you mentioned I need to do that on a previous piece – I’m not ignoring you, and I appreciate the input. It’s just not very easy for me to implement confidently.

OK Kevin, this is just AWESOME!!! And wow, what a complex positioning of the two! I mean, a lot of dynamics going on here... the body positioning, the wrinkles in the fabric, the way the hair lays, etc. And on top of that, you had to pull of this look and body language between the two that really showed intense emotion. And dude... YOU NAILED IT! Love this! Fantastic job!

Thank you very much, sir! I really appreciate you saying that. It was actually really fun to create this for the two characters. I love them (and them together), so making sure everything was just right (that they were positioned so their foreheads would be touching behind her hair; making sure her eyes would meet his if you could see them, making sure their hands were where their arms would end...) wasn't tedious like it might have been otherwise.

I'm glad it turned out well, just because I'd feel like I'd let them down otherwise.
