Hello there While I make art, I usually look at your art in hopes that it would make my art good too. At the moment I'm making a piece that involves clouds. How did you make the clouds in this piece?

Thanks!
Well, it's actually hard to explain with words... I worked out the shapes and textures with layers of watercolors, and then I added the highlights with white and pink acrylics. I'm afraid I can't be more specific, experimenting and seeing how it works out is the only way to get the knack!

Actually I found the basic technique for how to do water color clouds here; [link]
Thank you though!
Lets see how this picture of mine comes out

I think the striped lining of her dress is my favorite part, but the twisted cage is wonderful, too! The texture in the background is terrific. I'd actually love to see you illustrate a kid's book - you have a really distinctive style that would lend itself well to fairy tales, I think.

I love the way you do dresses - there are always so many wonderful details in them. The warped cage is fantastic, and the texture in the background is amazing. Love it!

If Tim Burton and Shakespeare had a love child! Awesome. This is absolutely amazing. I love the spindly, delicate, and even slightly chaotic appearance that the cage's uneven construction brings to the piece. Lovelovelove!

Really striking. I think I like the striped part of her dress and the warped cage the best - and also that she doesn't look trapped in it at all. There's a very dreamy, surreal quality to this, but not in a nightmarish or menacing way despite the colors. Very nice work!

This really reminds me of Sweeny Todd! If you have seen it, the Green finch and Linnet bird song, sung by Joanna... She sings of being caged and learning how to fly.
I love it!

You have such a peculiar style. It reminds me of a more reformed version of the gothic era. Muted colors combined in a array of storytelling so subtle that it could easily be misconstrued. But I digress, it is simply wonderful. Magnificent display.

Your gallery is marvelous. Your work are in mixed media, it shows you have skills in a wide range of meduims not just one. Brilliant. Just a quick question , in arcylics do you use the" feathering " method in order to blend the paints togerther to create a smooth tone?
π: 0 β©: 1
KmyeChan In reply to Minx188 [2008-06-11 10:31:38 +0000 UTC]
To be honest, I've learnt acrylics on my own by trial and error, and I don't really know what the "feathering" method is...! I just take very small amounts of paint, than spread them on the paper with light strokes using water to smooth the thiner parts, and I work like that using many layers until the colour is correctly blended and consistent.
