Description
Melanie Walker/Ten reenters Terry McGinnis'/Batman's life when she is pressed to find monetary means to ensure her family's release from the Jokerz.Ultimately the whole thing was a ruse staged by her parents to gauge her loyalty to the 'family' (Royal Flush Gang).
The scene up is a depiction of Batman offering his assistance to her so long as she stops stealing. After this Batman will only encounter Melanie once more in King's Ransom. She left the gang after Once Burned [scene above is from said episode].
Terry/Batman knows that Melanie and Ten are the same girl, but she never learns the connection between Terry and Batman.
Series wise Terry chose Dana over Melanie, but those of us who still think he and Melanie should have more well that's what fan-fiction is for.
There's a lot more tension between him and Melanie than there is with Dana. Maybe the whole costume thing makes them relate better to each other though this is a matter of opinion.
Two tone paint shades strikes again.

I really liked Melody, I so sad when she and Terry fell apart. I cried a lil bit, hell I'm crying a bit thinking about it.
R.I.P. Melody x Terry

Interesting fact is that Tim Bruce has commented that he never intended Dana and terry to remain together. He had intended (if the series had continued) for Melanie to end up going straight and becoming Terrys gf and on/off partner.
Shame batman beyond ended before it REALLY got interesting.
She'd have made a great bat girl or heck, new Catwoman.
Plus, the voice actors really had good chemistry too.

Really? Where did Bruce Timm (not Tim Bruce) say that? I've seen an interview where he talked about how he regretted neglecting Dana's character and wanted to fix that and give her more of a presence and more of a character. Do you know how Timm planned to develop Melanie's relationship with Batman from "resentful dislike" to willingly being his partner in crimefighting?

They really had something though Batman Beyond never really quite got out of the shadow of Batman: TAS. Of course to many of us, the Batman-Catwoman dynamic had come back briefly with Batman II and Ten. Certainly I would have enjoyed seeing them flourish as partners even when Terry initially goes back to being with Dana. I mean I feel Melanie understood the duality better than Dana ever did at least during their teenage years.

God, I just loved that scene...if tempers hadn't been flaring so high, that pose would have been obscenely sexy.

Yes I was doing my best to match it because it looks so form fitting - I mean the Ten outfit on Melanie.
Yes tempers were high and he was the only one I think that knew who was who behind the masks.
It never did seem like she found out.
Of course the scene could a lot more interesting if tempers were flaring in a different way.
Sexy would be an understatement, but very accurate.

Yes, but for lack of another word that is actually found in the dictionary, we shall simply use "Sexy" to describe how that scene could have (and in a not-so-humble opinion, should have) gone.
I always found it rather depressing that she never knew who was under the mask. A part of me would like to think she had some small suspicion, but that's just me wishing on an evening star.

Well we could always imagine how it might have gone - should have gone.
Personally I think he should pulled a surprise kiss on her in that position then. That would have given him away - maybe.
A lot of what went on with Beyond had gone so far yet stopped short of really living up to the potential.
Personally I almost think I would have gone with Melanie over Dana.
There might be something to his last encounter with Melanie as Batman when they discussed the note.
However that's only a guess on my part.

I advocate that guess...I t know, I guess it was jsut something about the way she said, "I guess I don't exist to him either."
But again, it's only speculation.
Ooh....pulling a surprise kiss like that...oh, that would have been a wonderful day.....

She certainly sounded disappointed - so it would seem they just axed the possiblity of them getting back together.
Well it was ... is still memorable... what they have.
The chapter after the one I wrote for Melanie - belongs to another favorite of yours - Spellbinder.

Indeed - make our fantasies for faves come true.
Hope you enjoy both the Melanie chapter and the Spellbinder one.
That's okay I have character obsessions too.
Zatanna and Huntress are high on the list - actually Huntress trumped them all when I did a fanfic with her as one of the leads.
Basically a retelling of JLU through her and Question.

I LOVED the chapters in your story...simply marvelous!
It's always interesting to read things from the "villain's" point of view, especially with Spellbinder. Reading that chapter, especially when you talked about his crimes, was fun for me, because I'm writing from the perspective that Billings committed those crimes because he hoped that it would make him more appealing to my OC, Ravyn.
Poor man...didn't even realize that she was already infatuated with him before Spellbinder ever came into the picture.

Glad you enjoyed it. I used the episode parts to build the backdrop, but as for the rest I tried to get into his head.
I'd imagine that he got sick of listening to the mediocrity of the students' issues.
However it also gave him something to exploit later as Spellbinder.
So how did Ravyn meet Ira?

vytina In reply to Knight-Watcher [2010-04-17 23:31:59 +0000 UTC]
I think another big issue for him was never getting paid for it. He says that he fought the demons inside their heads for years, only to have the students be totally ungrateful and the parents not only ignore his help with their children but then totally rip him off as far as payment goes. I'd daresay that would piss anyone off if you had to deal with it for years and years.
Both of them worked at Hamilton High for several years...Ravyn took the job as a Psychology instructor and part-time counselor for the students. She and Ira were colleagues of sorts, only Ira believe for a long, long time that she didn't even know he existed. He felt like his chances with her were slim enough - she was surrounded by other teachers at the school who were constantly hitting on her and trying to get up her skirt...poor man felt like against them, he was just an underqualified shrink without any kind of funds that would make her happy.
What he didn't know was that Ravyn did notice him quite a bit. She was very fond of him - they weren't alone much, but she enjoyed his company when she got it. She also noticed that some of the students found it amusing to play pranks on him that were airing on the side of cruel and unusual punishment. Seeing as Ravyn had been bullied a good portion of her childhood because of who her parents are, she got revenge for Ira by putting the students in detention that was NOT clean the chalkboards...more like clean the toliets for a month.
Eventually, however, Ravyn accepted a position at Gotham State University (I'm just pretending that university is still around in Beyond ) when her father retired - in other words, she took his place as head of psychology and Professor of Deviance/Psychopathology at the university. Ira pretty much figured his chances with her were over and done with.
Then, sometime during before the episode "Hooked Up", Ira escaped from Blackgate and stumbled into an empty office at the university, looking for supplies for him to use until he found a place to work out of. Surprise, surprise...it was Ravyn's office, and it wasn't abandoned. She walked in on him, costume and all. Of course, she followed his "crime spree", so to speak, and knew who he was. She took him home with her so he could sleep in peace for one night without worrying about the police. It turned into an...interesting night....

That's definitely something to have a gripe over - which I certainly hit upon in Mind Games.
Low self-esteem with women - especially a woman he likes - poor guy. I feel that because I tend to feel similarly when it comes to girls (though I tend to say ladies or women now since I'm in my early 20s).
Exceptional punishment with the toilets (potty mouth much?).
Its possibly that GSU could still exist in Beyond Era - it just would look a little different.
She went higher and he got stuck with pesky high school kids.
Ultimately it looks like things worked out for them.

They did, quite well actually. ^^
Although they did fight when she, as The Empress, took Batman under her wing (no pun intended) and mentored him from the "criminal" side of the court.
Neither Wayne or Billings were happy with that arrangment...Ira came around eventually, mainly because he knew there was no point in arguing with her once her mind was made up.
On the other hand, Wayne told Terry that she was nothing but a manipulative criminal, that it ran in her family blood to use people and then turn the whole situation around for personal gain, no matter the consequences. Terry replied that he respected Ravyn and trusted her.
Of course, things were a little icy between him and Mr. Wayne for a bit because, in the heat of the moment, Terry threw the accusations back in Wayne's face - "You say being manipulative and cruel runs in her blood, but that didn't stop you from falling in love with her mother."
The boy knows how to hit it where it hurts...

The third one is technically a pin up but it gives you an idea of what her full body looks like.
Meet Iris DeLaine (my pride and joy of an OC): First generation of the Empress, lover of Jonathan Crane, aka the Scarecrow, and mother of Ravyn Aurora Crane.
Her history with Batman (Bruce Wayne) is a long and complicated one...bit of the one-sided romance that never quite got the happy ending.

All look quite ravishing especially the third.
So far the only characters I can sort of claim as OC actually appear in my Question-Huntress story.
I altered the age and the name of Nightshade's brother. He becomes Lucas instead of Larry and he is also now a twin of Eve (Nightshade).
A lot of twin elements get involved too plus he endures a similar personal history to that of Mothman.
If you have read Watchmen you get a better understanding of him. The film version only has that one scene of him being taken away in costume to a mental hospital.
Back to Bruce and women - most of his relationships end abruptly with any woman.

I haven't ever read Watchmen before...I might have to look into this.
Yes indeed...Ironic thing about their relationship is it's truly the longest lasting that he's ever had with a woman (we're talking into the Beyond era-long) and she's the one woman he was willing to give up almost anything for. Almost, that is.

Yes they are pretty much my favorite - of course they never had much of a relationship in the comics.
JLU however is a place to explore what could happen between them.
Ultimately I took my chance to explore how they came together and what happens along the way plus the lengths she goes to save him.
Save him from Cadmus.
Similarly explore the depths of how gets to Cadmus.
As for Watchmen - its the graphic novel that changed graphic novels and comics.
Its very personal and very psychological.

Indeed.
The way I wrote her for that chapter was to say the least driven to get him back.
He had become a turning point in her life, one worth fighting for, someone that showed her that she could be more than she was.
She seem so intent on killing Mandragora until she realized that wasn't what she was after at all.
He made her see she wasn't meant to be a killer and then he turns around and tries to kill Luthor.
His motives for a kill might seem more high minded, but he wasn't a killer either.
Though Cadmus didn't seem above killing him after they tortured him repeatedly for days.
He held out for two reasons in mind. Foremost because he knew once she figured out what he had tried to do she would something to stop him or save him because she loves him.
Second had to do with principles - like Rorschach's unwillingness to compromise in the face of Armageddon.
After they finally got away and back to the Watchtower - the way I wrote the infirmary scene with them. Well it got to be quite intense in some ways.
The reason I thought he took so long to tell her about the aerosol was also dual.
Firstly he had been in and out of torture sessions for days - no way to be sure what was real and what wasn't.
He left her hands linger on his face long enough to be sure it is her.
The other part was that he had seen his mask for too many hours, too many days straight.
He wanted to push Question away at least physically and be Vic Sage for awhile.
"You were right - I am the ugliest guy of all time."
"Not in my eyes."
The way she is shown looking at him even with a bruised face - that must be love.

Yes - it is horrible - but his will was strong despite what he was forced to see.
I don't think he could have dealt with himself totally if he caved. It was enough that he tried to kill someone unsuccessfully.
He didn't expect Brainiac, not even Luthor.
Question isn't the brawling type. His strengths are foremost strength of will and mind. His methods while questionable (no pun) still manage to get the job done.
Besides even if he had given into Moon - Moon wasn't going to stop if he broke.
"This will continue until you break... maybe even after."
Moon was a sadistic jerk.
From a personal standpoint I would have preferred to see him roughed up, but point is she got who she came for.
She I think is trying to uphold what he taught her about realizing reciprocating violence helps none.
It doesn't change what happened, she can only try to rise above what Moon did to Question.
Just as she had with Mandragora did to her parents.
