So I wanted to put together a chart so I could see how tall everyone was in relation to each other and be able to fine tune those better. Cuz it's one thing to draw them alone, another to draw them with others. It's liable to change, but this is what I've got so far. There are three Gasters cuz I felt like showing him in different degrees of slouching.Chara and Asriel are the same height as Frisk.
I may end up doing reference sheets for each of them.
EDIT- Also, the number are not real measurements. As for their real heights. I don't know know. I don't think in that much detail. Paps is probably the size of a normal human, maybe a little on the tall side.
Since this is mostly a drawing reference for me, they're measured by head heights and this is just all of them in relation to each other. Sans is three heads tall, not including his feet. So he ends up three heads and a little bit in height. Frisk is three heads tall even. Asgore is five heads plus extra for his horns. No way would I ever imagine Asgore five feet tall. As it is, I worry I'm drawing him too short, but he just looks a tad too awkwardly big if I do any more. Then I'd have to adjust Toriel too.
I mean, Toriel, Paps, Undyne, and Mettaton are all labeled at 4 1/2, but they're still different heights. It's basically a drawing trick I do to keep them consistent heights. Guess my notes could've been more clear. But I hope that's less confusing! I may need to go back and add a little more clarification. Individual sheets will definitely have more detail because there will be more room for that.

Heights has always been a bit of a "bone" of contention for me. My headcanons are mostly based on the actual sprites, where actually Papyrus isn't that tall by monster standards. Side by side Blooki, Mettaton, Asgore, Toriel and Undyne are ALL taller then him. Nothing throws me out of a good story then suddenly having Papyrus described as this truly ridiculously sized individual. Often detailed as around 7 feet tall. (I blame the size comparison next to Sans. Any monster looks tall next to Sans. Doesn't mean that they are in fact a giant.) I also don't like the trope of Papyrus carrying Sans like a child as sprite wise Sans is only a head shorter then Papyrus and certainly more rounded. I can't ever imagine Papyrus carrying him without pulling his spinal cord or lumbering around on bowed knees. In fact I think that would be cute. Seeing Papyrus actually struggle in carrying Sans and Sans not helping at all and being like, "lift your feet paps. put some backbone into it. " NYEH!
Saying all that I think this looks really good. Even in the simple style there are lots of nice little details. And I like the side by side too. (Even if Too tall Papyrus triggers me. ) Yours is a nice medium though. At least Sans isn't constantly talking to Papyrus's crotch when they're together. (now that's an image lol) I'm guessing your headcanon deviates from mine? Oh and Monster Kid here looks ultra adorable. The way he's looking at Toriel is awwww.

The heights can be rough to pin down. I promise I took the sprites into account. I'll admit I'm amused by the contrast of tall Paps and tiny Sans. But doing that sure messes with the proportions of other characters. I imagine Papyrus to be about average height(by human standards). I loosely go off the sprite sizes, but I don't treat them as an end-all-be-all. Overworld sprites in particular can be inconsistent because there's so little pixel space and some characters need more details than others. So the sprites just give a basic general idea of heights, but ultimately the character is going to be as big as necessary to be able to see it clearly on screen. Like, based off Flowey's sprite, he's a pretty gigantic flower. And the overworld sprites and battle sprites can be inconsistent at times, so it's sort hard to trust them. Compared to Papyrus, Flowey's height is a little different from overworld to battle sprites. And Alphys' overworld sprite is a little taller than Sans, but she's shorter in the battle sprite. Toriel's battle sprite also looks the same as, if not slightly shorter than Papyrus. I guess in short: the sprites can be pretty inconsistent.
I tried to make Papyrus a bit shorter, but the proportions just ended up looking odd. His legs are pretty short in the sprites, but I couldn't pull that off without it looking weird, so I did make him a bit taller to help him look more balanced. I might be able to pull off shaving a 1/2 head, but I'm pretty sure I had trouble with that too. I'm not sure I'm happy with Asgore's height, but I dunno how to make him taller without messing up his proportions.
It would be amusing to see Papyrus struggle to pick up Sans. But skeletons alone are actually really light. I personally don't think they have extra magical weight, because their skeletons are their entire bodies. I imagine Sans as broad boned, but not heavy by our standards. Clothing still hangs off them like they're, yanno, skeletons. Skeletons take up very little of your body weight, about 15 or 20% if I'm not mistaken. So... they're probably somewhere between 40-20 lbs, depending on the size, density, and if they're dry bones or not. I'm guessing Papyrus is a decently strong guy(muscles aren't even a factor here). It'd probably be pretty easy for most anyone to pick up Sans.
But, in the end, it's all headcanons.
