Description
Wow. Lame Title is lame. Ignore that please. (If you can think of a better one, tell me)Anyway. Another Xiaolin Showdown piece... with Rai. I need to stop that and do some of the other characters. I REALLY need to work on Clay. The Texan doesn't get much attention and is hard to draw. I should also be getting to work on the rest of my 50 states OCs...
I wasn't planning on doing more XS art just yet... and I was going to practice Clay. But I found this in one of my notebooks and thought, "Hey, why not? It's not bad." So I posted it.
Boring background. But I don't usually do them. They're difficult. But I decided to for some reason... It isn't even that good. Oh, well.

Raimundo is definitely the best developed character. Yes, he's a sarcastic jerk. But one of his best attributes is his kindness. It's very contradictory, yet when you watch the show and actually know his character, it makes sense.
I like this drawing, but I made it back when I couldn't get my pen pressure to work on my tablet, so I kind of want to redo it. With some improved shading and whatnot too.

He's no Mary Sue that's for sure. After he strayed from the Heylin side he did his best to redeem himself, but at the same time he still had his flaws but who doesn't? Even when Raimundo had to put up with doubts from the fellow monks (cough-Omi-cough) he still didn't let that stop him from proving himself, which is another thing I admire him for.
Well I gotta say, it didn't turn out half bad. And you're pretty good at shading.

It was great character development. I just love that he was the last to reach apprentice, then he gets to become the leader. It was amazing. Most shows would have made Omi the leader because he's essentially the main character. But I like the idea that being the leader doesn't make Raimundo more important. He just has different qualifying traits. He's the one who struggled the most, so it's only fitting he should be rewarded for it.
Omi was so mean to him. In season 1, Omi was cute and oblivious, then he turns around and starts acting better than everyone. I think he started doing that because he started feeling insecure. He trained his entire life to be the best Chosen One he could be, then the other three just show up without any training and are able to do things almost as well, albeit a bit differently, than him. Omi has some great development too.
The show may not have been perfect, but it was still pretty amazing.
Thanks. ^^ I'm much better at shading now than I was back when I made this picture.

Making Omi the Shoku Warrior would be WAY too predictable. As a lot of the comments on YouTube put it: Omi suffered an extreme case of flanderization(taking all the characters' likable personalities and exaggerating them to the point where they become too unbearable to the viewers) if he would be made the leader and still have that giant ego, I don't know if the monks would last five minutes with it. When Raimundo became leader, Omi swallowed his pride and congratulated him, so maybe it was for the best.
I couldn't take Omi after season one anymore. Considering his sheltered lifestyle all the comments that he made before(like his sexism towards Kimiko) we let slide because he didn't know any better, they were even adorable. But then he practically became a bully. He said everything he said before, but this time he was AWARE of how hurtful they were to the others.

It would have been predictable and I'm really glad Christy Hui didn't do that. He did, but when you try to take what they give you, you can pull some character development from it. To be honest, Omi is my least favorite monk. I always thought he was annoying and it was always about him, yadda yadda. It wasn't as bad the second time I watched it. I found some character analysis stuff by chipmunkfanatic on tumblr and it put his exaggerated traits into a new light so it made more sense to me. I could appreciate what we were given on his character a bit more. Yeah, a lot of it was unnecessary and I don't like it, but I've come to generally accept it. Basically, I view it as his way of convincing himself he hasn't been shown up by the newcomers. He wasn't necessarily trying to insult the others; he was trying to boost himself up in the wrong way.
Anyway, with the ego Omi had, leadership just isn't something he deserves. In the arc where Omi turns evil, it was because he was trying too hard to be the leader and didn't know how to get his friends to follow him.
Omi congratulating Rai was beautiful. He was still upset that he went through all that and didn't get to be leader, but he accepted it nonetheless. I think after the series, his ego starts to tone down as he starts to accept that the others are just as great as he is.

Wow, I never thought of it that way. I first watched Xiaolin Showdown when I was about eight or nine years old and usually when you watch TV shows at that age you don't think to analyze the characters, but when you watch it when you're older you start to think about their personalities and the reason behind it all and it all makes sense.
I can see that happening.

I don't remember how old I was when I started watching it. Maybe around the same age. Yeah, you really don't analyze anything at that age. But I love being older now and going back and being able to analyze them and it feels so much more fulfilling when I grew up watching them. I think some bad fanfiction happens because some people don't take time to actually notice the character's personalities. Like kids.
It's great to love a character, and love their negative traits as well as their positive traits and want to see the character grow. Then have a fangirly spaz attack when they do something amazing or actually do grow as a character.

That's the beauty of re-watching things from your childhood. You catch things that nostalgia blinded you with before. Yeah pretty much. When we read a fan fiction, we like to picture any dialogue or imagery from the story happening in the actual media it's based off. People who are serious readers don't just read and decide whether or not they like it. They like to feel the moment and imagine it happening in their head.
That's another thing that we as kids would overlook. I remember watching XS for the first time I didn't like Raimundo as much because of how he would pick on Omi from day one but then I gradually started to warm up to him when I watched some more episodes and now I see how his "Jerk with a heart of gold" persona is what makes Rai Rai.

Definitely. Bad fanfiction happens when you can't picture the characters doing the stuff the fanfic had them do. If you want to right a good fanfic, it's very important to keep them in character. If you can't picture the character doing something, then you shouldn't right them doing that.
I always liked Rai. I'm not even sure why. I have actual reasons now, not that I can really list them. Anyway, yeah. That's definitely a giant part of his personality. I love that trope, as long as it's written well.

That's one of the main struggles of writing. Even if it is hard to capture character at least serious authors try and don't just slap any random personality trait.
I certainly understand why he's a fan favorite. He has the moves, the looks, the strength, brains and heart. And a cool name. Seriously the Portugese form of Raymond must be the best one.

Yeah. Writing is just hard. It sounds easy, but it really isn't. It's also important to make character different from each other. Otherwise they're boring. One of my friends, she's great and all, but most of her characters are the same.
I can understand it too. He's an awesome character. There are other fan favorite that I can understand why they are (Jack is a dork and everyone loves it. Chase is an awesome villain. Etc.) I'm not sure his name is actually Brazilian though. I think the Brazilian form should be Raymundo, but Raimundo is cooler anyway, so I don't care at all.

Like many artists, writers really toil and put a lot of effort and creativity into their masterpieces and people just treat it all as fun and games.
Jack's dorkiness something we can all relate to at one point or another. My favorite Jack moment had to be in Year of the Green Monkey when the monks are ready to face the Junk Bot only for it to power down and Wuya's anger towards it:
W: What do have to say for yourself?!
J: I should gotten a longer extension cord?
Chase was awesome too. Even as a villain he still had a code of honor that he withheld which also made him the most respectable one.

Art is hard, writing is hard, yet the people who want something from the artist/writer insist it not that difficult and demand stuff from them. -_- I've experienced it a couple of times. Not even mentioning that dreaded "can you draw me?" question. I hate that one.
Definitely. Sometimes Jack deserves what he gets, other times I feel so sorry for him. The poor guy. Oh, oh, I love the part where Wuya screamed, then Jack screamed, then they scream back and forth progressively getting less impressive and it's hilarious. I think it was in the Panda Town episode. Yes-bot was in that one, right?
Sometimes I felt like Chase was a little over-rated, but I still liked him a lot. His obsession with Omi was a little bothersome too. (I agreed with Wuya when she said, "Omi, Omi, Omi. It's always about Omi." Each villian is cool in their own way. I think Wuya is the most powerful, Chase is the most calculating, and Hannibal is the manipulative one(although Hannibal rarely won anything, it was a little disappointing).

Just UGH!!!! I'm in a cartooning class in school and there are some kids who take it seriously and some who just scribble random doodles in hopes they get credit off it.
When Jack sold the SGW for robot parts? Yep that was Panda Town. Yes that was hysterical! I like just about any situation with Jack and Wuya. Like the one where they're stuck inside Dojo's body, Wuya is freaking out and then Jack points out she can just glide out which she does must to his dismay. Yeah... the obsession is just... creepy. I know there are a lot of XS fans who are calling Chase a pedophile and I can't help but agree with them. The way he stalks Omi and tempts him during season 2, it's terrifying that this happens in the real world as well. But at the same time, it was kind of humorous it picked at Wuya's jealous side.
Definitely. Out of all the villains, Hannibal really is the most underrated one, and it's sad because he's the most clever one. Any villain who gets away with shapeshifting undetected deserves an A in my book.

I hate people who don't even attempt to try in class. I feel like art is one of those classes people take just for the fine arts credit. They don't care about it or anything, they just want to get it over with. Also, I once took a child development class, and there were a couple of guys(among a class filling with almost all girls) and I wonder why they even took the class. They came, didn't listen at all, and swore their mouths off in front of little preschoolers. Seriously?
Jack and Wuya's relationship is just hilarious. XD It's fantastic. The episode where Dojo goes crazy like that isn't really my favorite, but that's definitely a highlight.
I more or less get why Chase did it, but it's still creepy. Just... leave children alone. But whatever. He could be worse. At least he isn't attracted to Omi romantically. That would just be a no no. No way would I be willing to let something like that slide. Wuya's character was weird at that point. I'm pretty sure all she really wanted was power, and Chase wanted power. I guess when she was attracted to his power and he wasn't attracted to her, she got jealous. XD Wuya was an interesting villain.
Yeah, it's kinda sad. In the show, I'll admit his characterization was a bit lame. But he really did have a bunch of potential that was never really looked into. I guess the problem was that he rarely won. He could have been better if they'd handled him right.

I've met so many people and I'm just annoyed by how they act like they're the boss. Are you kidding me? Ugh! Yeah that's the same with our childhood development class and the students can pick to either take a programed baby doll home or to write an essay on infancy. I never took the class, but I've seen some pretty poor handling of those dolls whenever I walked in the hallways. There were kids who just swung them in the baby carriers, bumping them into stuff, placing them on the floor of moving buses when reaching into theirs bags or here's my favorite neglect scenario I've seen with those things: Last year my history class was split into two parts(going to lunch and coming back) and one girl purposefully left the doll in the classroom when going to lunch, even the teacher confronted her with that.
They're prone to argue like an old married couple or a bunch of toddlers. Like that part with Royal Rumble when Jack was having the meltdown about the pudding cup and immediately accused Wuya of eating it XD That and the part when Dojo threw Jack up and Kimiko's disgusted reaction towards it were the best parts of Enter the Dragon.
And thank god the writers didn't hint it because otherwise it would have a VERY NEGATIVE reputation. I know of some parents who barely tolerate XS and a plot with a clueless child and perverted stalker was added then it would be the first show booted to parental block. You got that right. She started to go through her villain decay and when Chase stripped her of her full powers after her resurrection then of course the next best thing would be to be around said villain with the same amount power she used to possess.
Yeah. I've seen one video that actually pointed that out and as the dude from it puts it, Hannibal is " Looks like Meatwad from Aqua Team Hunger Force and sounds like Southern Spongebob" On a positive note, points to Tom Kenny for being the man of a thousand voices on XS.

Seriously? I understand that they won't care as much since it isn't a real baby, but they should at least pretend to take care of it! I haven't had to take care of the computer baby yet, but my sister did a few years back and she got so frustrated with it. Anyway, on the flip side, I've heard of a kid who called the cops after he accidentally locked his computer baby in his car with the keys. He just got so panicked and worried about his baby that he called the cops. XD So there is hope for some teenagers. Maybe a little too much hope sometimes. XD
Jack is such a dork. XD
Oh, yes. Thank the heavens they only hinted at Chuya rather thank Chomi. I'm not a huge shipper in the fandom, but I do have my preferred ships.
Personally, I liked Wuya as a villain the best. Turning her into a ghost was creative, I thought. As first, she was manipulative and scheming and everything. She was stripped of power, and she wanted to use Shen Gong Wu to get it back. She really only cared about them because they had power while hers was gone. She wanted to take over the world, and as powerless as she was as a ghost, she took what chance she could at doing that. But after the Heylin Rai arc, she wasn't as interesting anymore. I dunno, it was weird.
Anyway, yeah. She figured Chase was her best chance of actually taking over the world, so she sided with him.
Tom Kenny is a great voice actor. XD

Rumor has it some of those dolls don't come back in one piece 0_0 And taking the doll home wasn't mandatory either. If you don't want it, then just write the stupid essay. Wow, I know it was just a computer and everything but that's still good to know. At least he knew it was wrong to leave a baby in a car and he showed genuine concern.
Same here. And as a fan of any sort of media, I'm sure you've also come across some crack pairings on FF and DA that left you going "WTF?!". The one that I've seen the most and am greatly disturbed by are Chamiko, and I don't mean stories that involve Kimiko joining the dark side, I mean when someone puts those two in a romantic situation. I once read a fan fic where the author pulled a Hades and Persephone in which Chase abducts Kimiko and forces her to marry him. The beginning was okay but as I got to the middle, the context traumatized my imagination.
As Chase put it, "The Shen Gong Wu are merely a crutch for true power" we all know what Wuya can do without it and so did Chase so he was clever enough not to give her her powers(I'm still scratching my head as to how he managed to do that) But you're right. Other than all her feuds with Jack, she just wasn't the same.
One of the voice actors from my childhood. Except I didn't know it was him providing the voices for my favorite characters until I was much older XD Especially not Raimundo.

Yeah, I think he'll be a great dad. So, just the other day in class, my teacher said we were going to be doing those soon. XD The irony. Also, she told us she'd never had anyone actually break them. An arm fell off once, but it wasn't too difficult to fix. Let's hope I'm not the first. I don't think I will, but still.
Chamiko bugs me. Where did they get that idea? It's even more random than Chomi and just as disgusting. I've read some fanfics where it was okay at first, but then it got super weird and super bad and just super wrong. *shudder* I can't think of examples right now, but I'm actually thankful for that. I don't want those coming back to my memory right now.
She is definitely the most powerful. She almost literally took over the world with a snap of her fingers. As powerful as Chase is, he doesn't have that much power. So I can see why he took her powers away. I have no idea how he did it either, it really shouldn't be possible. But...whatever.
I didn't pay attention to who the voice actors were at all. The only ones I recognized (Kronk from Emperor's New Groove, and Ham from Toy Story specifically), I still didn't know the actor's name. With a lot of actors, I still don't know their names. XD I don't keep track.

Well they're just rumors. But those dolls are about $70 so if they do break, those kids are in deep doo-doo. I'm sure he will. We need more guys like that.
Chomi pairings in fan fiction are rare for me, it's Chamiko that I find there often much to my dismay. Chase may be evil, but even he doesn't prey on underage girls. Again, I've read some fan fictions that involve Kim joining Chase out of free will and they're very good until the author switches their relationship from close apprentice and master to a real romantic pairing. I know that it's a real world issue in which awareness must be spread but that's a horrible excuse to put cartoon characters in that position, especially ones from a kids' shows.
And the part when she dominated all the monks and their Shen Gong Wu? Oh well, even without her powers Wuya was still badass.
I believe you mean John Ratzenberger? Everybody knows him. Apart from Hamm, his voice appears in every Pixar movie. And Patrick Warburton? Again another popular voice actor but Kronk is a fan favorite. I love him, he's such a sweet heart.

My teacher got $800 ones. That's a little scarier.
I really try to avoid romance fics anyway. Most of them are terrible. I'm sure there's good ones out there, but I don't find many. I prefer light shipping. I've actually been writing something with a friend that has some important romance, but I like it because they're both too stupid to realize they like each other. XD And it'll actually be important to the plot because realizing they like each other will help the guy make some important decisions. I dunno, I probably shouldn't be telling you cuz you probably don't care. XD Anyway, I'm not a big fan of Chamiko even in an platonic apprentice way because it just doesn't really fit their characters.
Wuya was amazing with her powers! She could have stayed in control if she knew how to get Rai some proper friends. But that would have been bad for the show if he stayed on her side like that. Besides, they probably wouldn't have been HIS friends. Not unless she snagged his old friends from Brazil.
Yeah, sure. XD I don't know very many actors' names. Voice actors are great though.

$800.00? Damn. That should make everyone be careful with them.
I'll admit I do like some romantic comedies, but when they follow the same plot line, then my interest shifts from them. That actually sounds like a good story. I love it when writers stray from the "love at first sight" cliche and go for something people wouldn't expect in typical romance stories. I don't particularly mind it, I prefer that over them actually becoming a couple, but I'm very picky about which "Heylin Kimiko" fan fics I read because the majority of them end up turning them into a legit couple which creeps me out.
While it would be an interesting twist ending that Rai stayed with Wuya (because everyone always expects the hero to resist the dark side) it would't really be too good for his character because he would only stay due to Wuya's bribes. But even if he did have some friends he'd still probably go against Wuya because he wouldn't bear to see his fellow monks killed by her.
I know. Whenever I hear all the hilarious lines their characters say whether it's scripted or improvise, I think of all the fun they must be having doing their job. I always like watching behind the scenes videos of any movie or TV show and I'm actually disappointed that I haven't seen any of Xiaolin Showdown. Nor hear any acknowledgment of it by the original voice actors.

Yeah, that's a lot. She's never had anybody break them before and hopefully that record keeps going.
The focus can't be on the romance too much. It shouldn't be the main point of the story. I hate the "love at first sight" cliche. I mean, what drew them together besides appearance? It's just a weak romance. More infatuation than love. It'd actually be kind of interesting if someone used that cliche, but with someone who wasn't attractive. Has that been done? Anyway, still not a fan it.
That's true. Platonic is better than romantic. Romantic is just creepy.
What having his Brazilian friends there could do is make it more interesting. Making a situation where Rai would have to choose between saving the monks and leaving his Brazilian friends in the hands of Wuya(where she might torture or kill them out of anger), or staying with his Brazilian friends and letting the monks die, would be a difficult decision for Rai. It's take a little rewriting of the story, but it would be interesting. I still like the way it is in the show though.
Those are a lot of fun to watch. Whenever I hear characters screaming or making weird noises, I think, "That must have been fun for the voice actor to do in the booth." It makes me laugh. Xiaolin Showdown isn't the most popular show, and it makes me a little sad. Oh, well. I still love it.

I never understood that, it's ridiculous. Not that I know of. Unless you count Beauty and the Beast, but I don't think that would really be considered "love at first sight" Still I wish more people would do that. There's also the "enemies turned friends turned lovers" cliche and the less annoying "scam couple" in which they're just dating or getting married for legal papers or something like that until they soon realize their feelings which some of my favorite rom coms do follow. As overused as they can both be sometimes, they're more realistic and relatable than "love at first sight".
Again, I never thought of that. That might be a bit too dramatic for a kid's show but I would love to see to see Rai faced with his own "Sophie's Choice" moment in which now he's in a true dilemma. I'm just into stuff like that.
And kind of like what we discussed with writing and drawing, it's not just about the general concept, in the case of voice acting being just reading a bunch of lines into a microphone and occasionally making up your own. It takes a great deal of enthusiasm and talent to bring a TV character to life. Unfortunately, but it's a very big part of some people's memories.

I wouldn't count Beauty and the Beast. Belle didn't really like him because he was mean and scary and imprisoned her father. She stayed to free her father, and Beast accepted the trade because it was the only hope he had of being free from his curse and not because he loved her at all. I used to hate that movie(I have no idea why...), but not I really like how they did it. They hardly tolerated each other at first, then they grew to accept each other and it moved on from there.
I hadn't heard the scam couple one before. That's actually interesting. Personally, I like the development for the best friends turned lovers idea. If you already establish the friendship, the romance feels less forced to me. I'm not saying that's the best trope, I just like it because it's easier to make the development flow. And it feels the most realistic to me. I feel like people should be friends before they become lovers.
Yeah, I'm into that stuff too. It'd be a really cool thing to do. But I wouldn't change what happened in the show. Maybe in a AU fanfic.
Voice acting is real acting. It takes just as much talent to be a voice actor as it does a normal actor. Lots of people don't realize that though, and it's kinda sad.

I wouldn't think so. And there's the debate among Disney fans whether it's actual love or just Stockholm syndrome. Oh well, I still love the movie.
What I like about that plot is it plays around with romance stereotypes. In the majority of all films the couple gradually falls in love, but there's always at least one conflict before it actually happens. One movie perfectly portraying it would be "Failure to Launch". It's a pretty simple plot: The guy is a 30 year old man still living with his parents who are sick of him being there so they hire a girl to pretend to be his girlfriend so he can move out and then in typical romance style, they realize their true feelings for each other but not without a bunch of wacky events and denial leading up to it. The friends turned lovers is definitely better than "love at first sight" and it's only logical to get to know that person before getting in a serious relationship with them. When people immediately turn lovers, it's annoyingly sugarcoated. You see classic Disney movies like Snow White, Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty marrying the guy they only knew for a day or even one minute and wondering what the aftermath is. What if that prince is a workaholic who does not have time to fulfill their desires, or a slob, or god forbid, abusive? I am honestly glad Frozen lamp shaded that with a simple, "You can't marry a man you just met."
Neither would I. To me, you shouldn't tamper with the original thing. If it's perfect just the way it is, then leave it. That's what we have FanFiction.net for.
If they work to amuse fans of all ages and not just for a paycheck, then they're very noble people who deserve more credit than they get.

Whether or not that's true, I'm going to say that isn't the case. Would the curse even accept that? I love the movie too. :3 It's good.
That's a nice trope, I like the idea. I'm not sure I would approve of it in real-life scenarios. I feel like you should date/marry people you are attracted to or have an interest in. I love it when characters deny that they're in love. It's always great. I can think of a few cruel ways to play off of that. > Like Meg and Hercules. She finally admits she loves him, then she dies. But she comes back. Good for their romance.
I think I heard that it never says Snow White marries him. I'm not sure, I never liked Snow White so I sort of avoided watching it for awhile and my memories of it are foggy. Anyway, Cinderella has no excuse. Sleeping Beauty, the two of them were going to be in an arranged marriage anyway. I can probably come up with some reasoning to tone down the 'love at first sight' trope. Aurora suddenly finds out she's a princess and her name is suddenly different(she wasn't raised being called Aurora) and now she's supposed to marry a random guy(she doesn't realize it's the guy she met in the woods. Who knows, maybe she'd still be upset because they didn't get to date or get to know each other before they're married). She could be upset that she didn't get a chance to choose. It makes me feel better about Sleeping Beauty, at least. Can't really make a call on the other two though. But, if you had a chance to get away from your wicked step mother and the Prince just happened to want you, would you do it? I'm not sure I would, but there's bound to be people who would jump at that chance.
I like that Frozen did lampshade that. But sometimes they got too hung up on it. Like, Christoff was asking why the queen went crazy, then suddenly found Anna's ridiculous engagement more important. Granted, Anna's judgement on her love life was poor, but isn't fixing the weather a bit more important?
Exactly. If your goal is to make an AU, it's fine. Although, there may be exceptions. Like how Disney changed some of the original stories they got their movies from. I dunno. I guess it depends on what the original source material is. Point is, there's no need to 'fix' Xiaolin Showdown. Chronicles is another story.
Yes, yes. Of course they are doing it to get paid because they need money, but if doing it for the fans or just because they love it is what brings them true joy, then they are a fantastic person.
Sorry it took so long to reply. I wanted to make sure I had time to reply, and this is a fairly long comment.

I wouldn't know. Belle's initial misery was due to the Beast's temper which we does learn to control and be more gentle towards her so that did ease things up. Same here. And I also love the ancient Greek equivalent of Beauty and the Beast, being Hades and Persephone.
Even though I'm a HUGE Greek myth fanatic and I throw a fit if there's a single inaccuracy in any movie, book or TV show, Hercules is the one exception I make to the story being twisted, mainly because making an animated feature based on a dude who murders his family and sells himself into slavery to redeem himself is obviously too gruesome for kids, and I really do love that movie. Meg is the most realistic Disney character, and Hercules and Meg are the second most realistic Disney couple in my opinion(my first one being Lady and the Tramp) I loved how even though Meg was clearly struggling with the centaur, she just brushed off any help Hercules had to offer. Even after Herc beat the crap out of him, Meg, in the most untypical Disney princess style, was still not impressed and just continued out on doing the dirty work. It was only developed true feelings for him after she got to know him even though she refuses to believe it and even sings a whole song about denying it. But the best quality about her was how she redeems herself at the end.
I'm avoiding most of the early Disney Princess movies in general. Today I'm truly creeped out about that scene where Aurora is dancing in the woods and Philip sneaks up on her. I don't know if it's just my paranoia talking, but if a guy did that to me, no matter how handsome or polite he is, I would automatically assume he's a rapist and run for my life. And what makes me more uncomfortable is how he automatically decides he wants to take this girl, who he doesn't even know the name of, as his new wife. That really is terrifying for Aurora, finding out how she's a princess and all along she was engaged to this guy who she met once in diapers and forced to adjust to this new role whether she likes it or not. What's more is she's clearly miserable when she finds out, leading to another bizarre and rather dark fan theory. I usually don't do those kinds of things, but what if Aurora actually knew that the spindle might kill her and just wanted to put herself out of her misery? I'm not one of those people who blame her for being stupid and touching the needle because she was enchanted and the movie constantly emphasizes that NO ONE had any TRUE control over Maleficent's spells, but I'm just disregarding any dark magic that occurred during that scene.
I have an aunt who comes over to our house often and she absolutely detests all the sexism in pop culture. Whenever she and I would watch something on TV and we see something sexist, we both just talk about how ridiculous it is instead of actually watch it XD.
Again, they do it for the kids, because all those fairy tales are more graphic than we remembered them to be. Although I do like to imagine animated Disney movies that adapt the true fairy tales again albeit with all the gore and sex scenes, only make them exclusively for adults.
Don't worry about it, I have those moments as well.

It was good character development for him. But, from what I know, the curse was supposed to become permanent when he turned 21, cuz that's when the last petal was supposed to fall off. When Belle got there, he had been cursed for about 10 years. So the witch cursed an 11 year old. I think that's a bit messed up. It's not surprising for 11 year old boys to be jerks. That's my issue with the movie. But I'm willing to overlook it.
I don't really know all that much about Hades and Persephone. I know the basic idea. Most of what I know comes from the Percy Jackson books. XD Not sure that's the most reliable source though. I know he did his research, but...
Anyway, I loved Hercules so much! It's one of my favorites. Meg was an amazing character with great development. I like it when characters refuse to admit they're in love, it makes it more realistic. I think part of her being so unimpressed was that she was trying to avoid falling in love with anyone again. That, and she'd made a deal with a god, there probably isn't much that can impress her.
I would be freaked out too. You think she would have wondered where those clothes came from though... Did she think someone just abandoned them? Yes, the earlier princess movies have their problems. I'm just trying to ease my mind about them a little by offering a different explanation. Yeah, Philip bugs me a bit too. I'm just going to say he left to save her because he didn't want the princess to be stuck like that(because he knows she's the princess at this point, right?), make her father happy so the two kingdoms can have a nice relationship, and everyone was asleep and the only way to break the spell was to save Aurora. I don't mind the arranged marriage, because that isn't unrealistic. The way they fell for each other is, but arranged marriages do happen. I would have preferred if they emphasized that the prince was saving her more out of duty than love. It'd be less creepy.
Maybe she did want to commit suicide, I'd rather not think like that though. Also, I don't think she could have known it would kill her. When Aurora touches the spindle, it's important to remember that she had never seen one before. They had all been burned at the order of the king. So Maleficent's magic could have been working on her curiosity. She doesn't know what it is, and people have a tendency to tough new things like that. It wouldn't be hard for a little bit of magic to convince her to touch the spindle. It had clearly already gotten her to the room where it was.
Despite it's flaws, I still enjoy it. Mostly because I like the animation style and I like the three fairies.
It'd be nice if those sexist things could be fixed though. Also, I think people exaggerate the sexism just a little too much. I'm not denying it's there. It's just that sometimes feminists will scream sexist where it doesn't exist. Sexism in pop culture does exist, but it's not in every single thing.
I don't think Disney should do really mature things. They should just stay with their family-friendly media. If a different company wanted to do that, they could. Most of the time, I prefer the Disney version. It's generally less messed up.

That's what bothers me about the curse the most. He might have been a spoiled brat but if an eleven year old, let alone any kid saw a suspicious looking person with a suspicious looking object approaching their house then of course they're not going to let them in. And it might have been a great offense that the time Beauty and the Beast took place in because stranger danger was no big deal and hospitality was more important but even back then you never know what kind of sickos prowl around in the world.
Pretty much the same plot line as Beauty and the Beast except there's actual bridal kidnapping involved. Yeah I'm probably a hypocrite for being into it but there's just something that attracts me to it.
I think Percy Jackson follows the myths pretty well. In fact there are so many versions of them that it's hard to tell which ones are the "accurate" ones. There really isn't any mistake made, it's just that the book or movie follow a different version of it which I actually love and I don't mind a touch of originality in them either. It's when the director or author decides goes overboard with it and the story becomes so jam packed with excessive additions that don't even fit in is what I don't appreciate. What I like about Rick Riorden is how he adds his own twists to the Greek myths but at the same time he keeps true to them and has a respect for them.
Who could blame her? She sold her soul for a guy who dumps her for another girl after his revival and gets stuck with a rotten deal with a rotten god. After that experience, of course no one want anything to do with romance anymore if you were in Meg's situation. Yeah that was a stupid choice to make, but that's the beauty of it. Everyone has flaws and makes some horrible decisions sometime in their lives that eventually go back to bit them on the back sides. How can someone not like Meg? She's sarcastic, sassy, witty, smart, beautiful, independent, and kind... Oh my gosh, another character who reminds me of my mother XD And I adore Meg's voice actress as well.
I loved the fairies the most in Sleeping Beauty, mainly Merrywhether, and even though they were a tad scatterbrained and humorously incapable of baking a cake or sewing a dress without having to depend on magic, I'd say they were very decent characters with good intentions and overall mature if you count out the heated debate Flora and Merrywhether had over the color of the dress. What I was pretty upset about in Maleficent is how even though I enjoyed the movie I hated how in the modern version, the fairies are very moronic and their names get changed.
Which isn't even supposed to be the point of feminism. The goal of it is to spread equal rights for every gender, race and religion, not to hate men and constantly complain little tiny details and not take action for the big ones. Some people go overboard with it, my aunt does that and I admit I did that a few times too, and I'm vocal about it but I'm not that vicious. And you're right, it would be nice to have them fixed with some equalism.
One movie that really disturbs me "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" I love that movie, but it makes me question just how family-friendly Disney felt when they made it. How did they slip it through in a G rating?

Yeah, that bothered me. But I'm willing to forgive it and still enjoy the movie. Nobody said this lady was some sort of divine being, right? Just a lady with magic powers who decided to punish him? If I'm remembering right.
Well, Greek mythology tends to be a little messed up to begin with. So I don't think there's anything wrong with that story being one of your favorites. Didn't she like him anyway?
One inaccuracy I did notice was that they called everyone by their Greek names, but didn't call Hercules 'Heracles' like he should have been. I don't think it's a big deal though. I like the name Hercules better anyway. At first, I reasoned that it was his more popular name so that's what they called him. But then there was the whole thing about the Greek and Roman camps and it got a bit more confusing that the Greeks called him Hercules and that they spoke Latin. Of course, in HoO, that was mostly changed to speaking ancient Greek, and Heracles was mentioned. Hm. Whatever, I still like the series.
I think Meg is a perfect character. Not in a Mary Sue sort of way. I mean perfect in the sense that she has flaws and personality and she doesn't exist for the sake of the hero. She saved his life, and it was fantastic character development for her. Then he cared about her so much that he basically sacrificed himself to save her after she saved him(a little bit of messed up logic there, but it was still beautiful). I just love that movie. One of my favorites. Along with Mulan, and Tarzan, and Lilo and Stitch, and others, the list will drag on if I continue.
That fight over the color of the dress is amazing. I love it. I think that happened because the animators couldn't decide what color to make it (The fairies should've just compromised and made it purple XD). I never had an interest in seeing Maleficent because I'm not a fan of these live action remakes. But I did hear that they ruined the fairies' characters and made them really plain and boring. Also, Maleficent isn't even a dragon. That was my favorite part about her. It was cool. Although I did hear that it gave her more of a motive for being a villain. But I'm just still not interested in seeing it.
I know! Feminism makes me so mad because the entire point of it has been forgotten in favor of a "all men should die" mentality. It's worse when men are supporting it in that way. Anyway, there are some feminists who support the true cause of feminism, and they're better, but they're overshadowed by the extremists. Extremists make everything terrible for everyone. You're alright though(I don't know enough about your aunt to say anything about her though), you get the idea that hating all men isn't the right way to go.
I don't think anyone has any idea how Hunchback of Notre Dame got away with that G rating. It is dark and a little messed up. Not really something kids should be seeing. But I will admit that those dark themes went over my head when I was little. The main thing I got out of it was the theme where making fun of people because they're different is bad. So maybe it's okay? Still, it's messed up.

An enchantress. That was all they said. It's not like she was some sort of deity.
It really was, but that's what I like about Greek myths. The gods were no better than the mortals who worshipped them. They had typical human flaws and did the same stupid and illegal things all people do. Drink, steal, cheat, show off, etc. There was no perfect god or goddess, just a few who were more decent than others. And yes she does but Hades never abused her. He treated her with kindness and respect and did not smother her like her mother did. And their marriage ended up being one of the handful of stable marriages that the gods had to offer.
Hercules was the Roman counterpart. They use it in most sources of media because it's more familiar for the audiences, but I like it better than Heracles too. I didn't even get to Heroes of Olympus series yet, I'm still on The Last Olympian.
Simply put, Meg is awesome. And Hercules is a great movie. Those are some of my favorites too. Out of all the Disney movies I've seen, I like the ones made in the 1990s and 2000s the most. Just one minor plot hole with Hercules. People address it a lot in some fan fictions I can't help but wonder myself. Hercules bargained with Hades that he will take Meg's place when he saves her. After that rescue, isn't Hercules bound to the Underworld now? Or did his sudden godliness call the whole deal off?
And of course they had to bring the debate back at the end of the movie XD when I was six I got an Aurora doll with the pink dress for my birthday and I was pretty depressed with the fact it couldn't change color. When I acted that scene out with my Barbies, I would just switch it with a Cinderella dress but it wasn't the same. I was disappointed that it was a dude who was doing all of awesome transformations Maleficent was supposed to be doing, but I didn't have a problem with that as much as with the fairies.
And it still is for equality. The fact that it became synonymous with man hating comes from ignorance, mainly with people who feel like it's not needed which I strongly disagree with. Inequality is everywhere with sexism, the pay gap and pro-life laws. But it's not like every individual man in the world teamed up to make women's lives don't deserve to be hated by women, they suffer sexism too, as well as LGBT people and various ethnic groups. I am a feminist and so is my mom. I would be lying when I say we don't complain about men because when the patriarchy sticks it's nose into issues it shouldn't be a part of then we do. But we don't promote misandry, we just want each and every gender to be treated equally.
I haven't even seen The Hunchback of Notre Dame in my childhood. I only watched it for the first time last year so I never got the chance to view it from the perspective of a 2-8 year old kid. But I imagine the kids were blinded by nostalgia and at least got the basics of the moral of the story. And it's not a horrible lesson.

These replies are really long. I keep procrastinating them. XD I enjoy this conversation, but it take awhile to reply.
Yeah, so that helps the story. If she was some sort of mystical symbol of goodness, I'd have more problems with it.
It's an interesting way to think of deities. They're not anything I would want to worship though. Why would I praise them if they do nothing but look down on my and kill me if I make a mistake(Not all of them would, but the majority of them would)? No thank you. But they make for interesting stories.
Strange how that works, but it does, I guess. The gods just have messed up relationships. XD Most of them, at least.
Yeah, I know. In heroes of Olympus, they make the distinction clearer because there's an emphasis on the differences between the Roman and Greek versions. Looking back on how they used Hercules (almost?) exclusively in Percy Jackson and the Olympians makes it seem like it was a bit of an afterthought on Riordan's part, but nothing I feel the need to complain about. Personally, I like the Heroes of Olympus just a little better. At least, I like the first two books. After that, it seems like there were just too many main characters to balance the story well enough. I have some complaints about the last book, but I won't bother you with them and the spoilers.
Hm. If they had changed the wording to something more like "you get her out and you can go free." It would have avoided that plot hole. Hades already assumed Hercules was going to die, so why bother with the "she goes free and you take her place" part of the deal? If he dies, he has to stay anyway. Also, if he dies, Meg isn't getting out either. Maybe being a god does call off the deal... I mean, gods do what they want anyway. And at that point, Hades didn't really have suitable power to force him to do anything, I guess.
No, it's not the same. XD Magic color changing dresses sound like a necessity for Aurora. Maybe they could do that 'put it in water and it changes color' thing. Or it's one color on the front, another color on the back, and it's made to flip around either direction, maybe. Oh, well. You probably got over it eventually.
I hear Maleficent is a fairy in the new movie, right? I don't really like that because she's supposed to be a dragon. It's cooler. That could be why nobody liked her, but nobody had the guts to tell her. I wouldn't either. She puts curses on babies because she wasn't invited to a party. I haven't even seen the movie, and I'm still upset over the fairies. They were my favorite in the animated movie.
Yeah, that's what feminism is supposed to be, but it's not. I almost feel like it's necessary to just give feminism to the extremists and call the true feminists something else. I'd say 'equalists' or something, but that makes me think of the Legend of Korra and those people were bad guys.
I can see some differences in our opinions here. I'm all for equality, but I'm a pro-life supporter. I just don't think the babies life is something the mom has the right to end simply because she doesn't want it(abortion is also really harmful to the body). In cases where it could threaten the mother's life, incest, or rape, then yeah, I'm okay with abortion. In a lot of cases, pregnancy could have been avoided if they had just used proper birth control methods. They had their choice then. (Not trying to argue or anything. Just get my opinion on the table here) Moving on, the wage gap has been proven to be a myth by lots of people. I don't have any sources at the moment, but I've seen the statistics plenty. That doesn't mean sexism isn't real though. I think most of the inequality has to do with how people act about gender roles. Rude comments like, "she should be in the kitchen" are not okay. Refusing to hire someone because they're a woman is not okay. Same principle applies with race and whatnot too.
I do feel the need to mention that it bugs me when extreme feminists use bad statistics to prove their point. Like "there are a lot less women police officers, it's sexims!" No, it's just that women are less likely to want to go into that field.
Anyway! There are some cases where I just wish people would treat everyone like people and consider race, gender, etc less. That's all I wish. Just ignore that stuff and move on with life.
It has a really good lesson in it. Just gotta find it. For me, I didn't realize how dark it was until I was older. Kinda hit me like, 'this is not appropriate for children.' Maybe they were counting on the fact that the kids wouldn't understand it and kept it subtle enough they wouldn't notice. It's not my favorite Disney movie, but I do enjoy it.

In those circumstances, she would have seen that it was just a little boy not wanting to talk to strangers, explain that it's what's on the inside that counts and let him off with a warning. Then when he's older and still an asshole, then curse him.
If you attempted to outsmart them in anyway, whether it's creating a loophole with their contract or trying to beat them at what they do best, there's a 100% chance that you would be punished severely. Or just enough to make your life miserable for a certain amount of time before a miracle which they usually had nothing to do with happens, it all depended on which god you peeved off. The more petty they are, the harsher punishments they give. About half of the myths revolve around the gods either turning the mortals they don't like into monsters or cursing them in very, ahem, CREATIVE ways. While some reasons they did so were justified, there were a few who needed a chill pill. And as much as I love them, I would not want to worship them.
My mom explained that they made it work because they took some time off from each other which makes sense. Yep, there were a lot of dysfunctional marriages in the Parthenon, and the majority of the relationships there were incestuous as well, mainly Zeus's and Hades' for being married to their sister and niece respectfully. At least Rick Riordin made the reality seem less cracked out.
There are some die hard fans of Greek mythology who throw a fit at the slightest difference, but to me, it's no biggie. I really don't mind spoilers so if you want to tell me, you can just tell me. I look stuff like that up online anyway.
I wish they did that because I'm still confused. And yes that seems logical movie wise. In mythology the gods still had their own laws to follow so that would seem like a breach in justice, but then again that was one of Zeus's kids and if the god of gods was allowed to do as he pleased, why can't his kids? I've read one fan fiction in the Hercules fandom that was based on that and Meg's inner turmoil when she finds out. It wasn't finished which is very sad because I thought it was really good.
Yeah she was a fairy. I really didn't care for that, I just assumed she was one of those shape-shifting fairies, but when I found out that none of the transformations were her's, yeah I just explained I wasn't too happy. Now it seems like every time Disney will make a live action movie, they have to dumb down some characters. They did it to the stepsisters in Cinderella. Now that I heard they're making a live action Beauty and the Beast, who's the next victim?
I see just how the media ruined the name. In my health class last week, the girls were asked to describe boys and the boys were asked to describe girls and we immediately started dissing our opposite genders. It got so crazy. Then my teacher made a point about how we attacked each other and had a mature discussion on what we think of each other and how gender roles have progressed in the twenty first century and soon enough, we found out that we're fairly progressive with it. TRUTH! Equality should know no sex, race, or age. If countries like Iceland have equal rights, why can't America?
And that's fine. What I like about this conversation is you expressed your beliefs, but you did it in a way that is civilized and not judging others. I'm pro choice but I never shame others for believing otherwise. The whole point of being equal is for people to express their opinions and having them accepted by one another. But I do agree that when people have kids, they really should have them at a time when they're ready and REALLY be willing to raise them and not just to have them for the heck of it. Otherwise, stick to birth control and abstinence.
In that case, they're just taking it too far. If the police department isn't hiring women just because they're women, then yeah, THAT'S sexist. But there are some women who want to take a turn towards law enforcement, medicine, engineering or other careers that were traditionally male-identified and there are some like myself who just feel that it's not for us and we want to do something that's suitable for our interests. That doesn't make us submissive to patriarchy, it's just making our own choices which is the point of feminism.
Same here. And most of the time, they never do. That was the same with me. The only time I ever noticed a hidden grown-up joke was a scene in the Emperor's New Groove and I never even questioned it afterwards. And my sister never catches on to them either.

That would definitely be more appropriate.
The reasons for their creative cursing may be justified, but I don't think all of the methods of punishment are. I don't know many specific examples, I just know mythology can get really messed up really fast. Of course, there are some people that really deserved what they got.
Maybe that is what helped their relationship. I wouldn't know. Either way, they're stuck with each other part of the year. So I would hope they like each other.
Yeah, I like how Riordan handled the mythology.
There's always somebody who would throw a fit. Hey, it's mythology and there's lots of versions of it. No need to get picky.
I didn't even bother seeing any of the live action remakes, I don't really intend to. The stepsisters weren't exactly bright to begin with, but they had character. Especially Anastasia. She even got some fair development in the 2nd and 3rd movies. Those sequels weren't too bad, in my opinion. I prefer the 3rd one over the original, actually.
Anyway, they're doing Beauty and the Beast next? I'm going to guess the victims will be the furniture servants(not sure what else to call them). I'm pretty sure they're doing Mulan too. I could be wrong about that.
America constitutionally has equal rights, but the people kinda go against that at times. So I think almost everyone, if not everyone, technically has equal rights. Societal norms just kind of...make it difficult to be completely accepted.
Thank you, you're awesome. There are people who can respect other people's opinions! I think people should accept the consequences of their actions. Lots of people think abortion will solve their pregnancy dilemma, but it causes more problems. Abortion is harmful to the female reproductive system, and the emotional consequences are almost completely ignored. I just think having the baby is better overall, and if they don't want to keep it, adoption is an option. Abstinence is the safest choice. No risk of pregnancy or STIs.
One thing I've noticed is that pro choice is generally thought of as all the people who want abortions. I'll admit that I used to think all pro choice was. But I once read something that explained that pro choice does allow people to choose to keep the baby and not abort. That was a new revelation for me. I hadn't thought of it that way. While I am still pro life, I can actually respect the pro choice view now as well. I try to keep an open mind about these things and see both sides.
Yes, that's what feminism is supposed to be. It's just sad that I've seen so many posts on tumblr, or got the impression through various other sources that women choosing to follow the traditional gender roles are oppressed or don't know how to think for themselves. That line of thinking frustrates me. There's nothing wrong with following the gender roles if that's how you like it. So many things become so black and white when they really shouldn't be that way. Feminism isn't about women taking the world from men, but choosing how you want to live.
It's amazing how many adults jokes there are in children and family shows.

Oh yeah, most of these people were complete jerk faces who had it coming and I can't even blame the gods for punishing them but for the others, I guess the gods just needed an emotional punching bag. Or in some cases, victim blaming.
That's a valid point too. Plus with a smothering mother such as Demeter, it's no wonder Persephone made it work, everyone wants to get away from that every once in a while. When you're stuck in a dreary place such as this one, you might as well make the best of it.
While they still weren't OVERLY bright, at least they still had enough brains to make it in the real world. There was one pretty funny scene in the remake in which they're bragging about how Cindy doesn't know French and they do, she says something 100% fluent to them, and the sisters think it's Italian. I haven't seen Cinderella 2 for over ten years, but I loved Anastasia's character development. I'm assuming it's gonna be Lumiere. I don't know why, it just came to be when I was brushing my teeth. I heard about a live action Mulan(if if does come out and I find out that they dumbed down Mushu or the grandma. I'm the theater and demanding a refund). And Pinocchio. And someone already made their own fan casting for Hercules: moviepilot.com/posts/2015/02/2… . Seriously, why is Disney acting like it's getting harder to milk itself? While I did enjoy the remakes, I prefer they piggyback off some other myth or fairy tale rather then butcher their own classics.
I know that one of the few groups of people who might desperately need an abortion are teenaged girls who became pregnant just because they don't know how sex or babies work(which in this case calls for a more thorough sex ed class) and shouldn't be forced into motherhood when they have other future plans to think about. I can certainly see the perspective of both sides. I mean we have a group of people who don't want an innocent life to be taken, nor an emotionally scarred woman, and another who want women to have the right to their own bodies. I have nothing against people who believe abortion is wrong, I admire them for sticking to what they believe in, it's when those beliefs are being forced on one another that I don't like. There are countries that not only outlaw abortion, but took the law as far as counting miscarriages as one. So you have innocent women being arrested for something that they can't even control, that's when I begin to feel disgusted by the concept.
That's why I try to stay away from tumblr for the most part, because of all those extremists. Over the years, the work force for women has truly became more open. I'm heading off to college soon and I'm majoring in journalism, a field that used to be male dominated and is now one of the most gender diverse careers. I also have many female relatives who chose traditionally feminine careers. My mom works in the fashion field, I have one aunt who's a high school teacher, another one who's a hair stylist, one who's a nurse; and cousins who are going into graphic design, linguistics, modeling, etc and I NEVER judge them for their choices, or say that they're just bowing down to the whim of men, I just applaud them for doing what they're happy with. And for all those people still use feminism as an excuse for women discriminating men, that's called misandry. My biggest pet peeve is when feminists are called "feminazis". As if wanting equal rights is the equivalent of a group of people responsible for one of the world's worst genocides.

Some people just need to be punished. Some people just had terrible luck. Some people were unfortunately ignorant(that is a thing, right? Someone accidentally does something to offend a god, but didn't know any better and is punished anyway).
It's either they make it work, or the rest of their immortal life together sucks. I would rather make it work, if I were them.
XD That does sound funny. Anyway, yeah, it's been awhile since I'd seen Cinderella 2, but I do remember she met a baker and fell in love with him and Cinderella helped her with her love life and it was adorable. It's been awhile for the 3rd one too, but I remember the development being good there too.
I wish they wouldn't dumb down any character at all. Keep their personalities. Lumiere and Mushu were great characters.
I still just think there shouldn't be live-action remakes, but I can understand why people enjoy them and whatnot. But they could be spending more time and money on new animated features. I guess they have enough money that they can afford to split their resources. So maybe my time and money argument is invalid. Still, remakes are unnecessary and they could be making more original stuff(or basing more movies off of more fairy tales. I wouldn't mind seeing what they do with things like Rumpelstiltskin, or legends I haven't even heard of, perhaps from different cultures like African or Japanese. There's potential everywhere.)
This is why the Pro-Life and Pro-Choice stuff gets really difficult. One one hand, the women has no right to just decide an innocent life is too inconvenient and take it. On the other, society shouldn't force their decision on people. There's got to be a reasonable compromise somewhere.
I can understand if some people don't feel ready to be a parent, or they're just teenagers and they want an abortion(still don't recommend getting one though. Abortions can be more harmful to the body than just carrying and delivering the child to term). I mostly have a problem when women just don't want it because it's inconvenient to be pregnant and treat the situation as if her convenience is more important than the baby's life. I've also heard of situations where a women wanted a certain gender of baby, and kept having abortions until it was the one she wanted. But by the time she got what she wanted, her reproductive system was too damaged to handle the pregnancy.
To me, abortion is wrong when the attitude is indifferent about the life of the baby. It's hard to put into words, but I'm more accepting if people do acknowledge that the baby is a living thing, but having it isn't something the woman can handle. If that makes sense?
Tumblr is full of the most idiotic people. I mostly go to look at pictures and art and funny little posts.
Just because roles or jobs are traditionally female doesn't mean it's something for women to avoid. I'm glad some people can see that. I wish everyone could understand that. The extremists that act like traditional roles are societies way of oppressing women and shame women for choosing to live traditionally bother me. I thought they wanted to free women and let them choose what they want. Turning around and saying they can't choose traditional roles is just hypocrisy.
I know the difference between misandry and misogyny, but I tend to forget which one is which. The feminist extremists are the misandrists, but they would never admit that they are. They're the ones people think of when they say "feminazis." True feminists don't deserve to be labeled that way. But it's a public image that will be hard to wipe away.

Yep it's a thing. I can't think of specific people who were unfortunately that stupid, but it sure happened.
Interestingly enough, according to earlier Greek myths, Persephone actually went willingly with Hades and the kidnapping was later added in by the Romans. I still go with the kidnapping story because that was the one I was taught when I learned about Greek mythology.
I really got to re-watch Cinderella 2. And as for the issue with all the remakes, as enjoyable as they are, is it really necessary to make them? I mean all they are is just the original Disney movies with a stretched out plot and minor detail changes. Like you said, it would be nice if they remade stories from lesser known fairy tales or Hispanic, Asian and African legends. In French, we watched this adorable, non-Disney cartoon called "Kirikou" and the style and story telling of it all was so fascinating. Or Disney can also go with stories from lesser-known European countries. As a kid I've always been disappointed by the fact that no one made any cartoons based on Polish legends. And I'm still disappointed by it. Even though I don't particularly blame any companies for not doing so(Poland is one of the more "underrated" countries of the world as far as animated adaptations go) but if you really dig deep into the culture, you will find a lot of beautiful tales that can be made into movies or shows.
My mom actually has a very good opinion on that. In the case of a pregnant teenager wanting to get an abortion, she should not just be flat out told yes or no. Instead, she should be educated on what it exactly means to get an abortion as well as learn about the outcomes of it, both positive and negative. To that specific girl, it might seem like she's simply getting the baby out, but that's still an innocent life she's taking not to mention that could later haunt her in the future either with that abortion effecting any future pregnancies or the fact that she killed an unborn baby. Nevertheless, she should still have her options. If she decides to go with the abortion, then it's her choice. If not, then she can either chose to keep the baby or give it up for adoption. But she is still entitled to go to school, and the government should support her financially. But that doesn't mean abortion should be illegal. And not just for cases of rape, incest and fetus impairment, but again, women are entitled to chose. Now I think that's pretty fair.
So do I. My cousin has a tumblr so I go on to check out her art. It's a shame that it became a breeding ground for all different kinds of trolls. Thanks to those extremists, I constantly used to question myself as to whether or not I'm a good feminist. That because I like pink, wear make-up and "girly" clothes, paint my nails and played with Barbies as a child, I'm "following society's expectations of women", but now I realized just how ridiculous my fears on that were and I'm just carrying out with my life the way I want it to be without any judgment. I even stumbled upon this stupid quiz: www.buzzfeed.com/catesevilla/a… as if any of those things have anything to do with feminism. And despite what the name says, men are certainly not excluded from it either, not only to be aware of it, but so they can benefit from it as well. Men are also victims of rape, sexual harassment and domestic abuse but no one pays attention to that because of those damn gender stereotypes. Such extremism takes away the attention from THOSE true feminist issues. What's more is that those things fall into EVERYONE. Male or female. Straight or gay. Transgender or cisgender. White or non white. And feminism is supposed to help them all. Going back to the women who are still shamed for doing feminine things, those a-holes should just go to hell and let people be whatever they want to be.
I loved how one post on Facebook summarizes it: "Feminazi. Because wanting equal rights is just like Germany invading Poland"
...Yeah. Pretty self explanatory.

There's lots of versions of mythology. You can pick your favorite, there's nothing wrong with that.
I'm not going to pretend I know anything about Polish legends, but I wouldn't mind Disney doing some. I just wish they weren't so focused on doing the remakes. I want to see new things, not the same old things. Just catch my interest and make me experience something new, please.
Education first, decision after. Is that basically what you're getting at? Sounds good to me. Pro-life people would probably freak out over abortion being legal, saying now everyone is just gonna get an abortion, but that's not true. There will be women who choose not to abort, who choose to keep the baby, or choose to put it up for adoption. And this is coming from a Pro-Life person. Maybe we should have a little more faith in the choices people will make. (Off-topic, but my L key is being really stubborn and it's really annoying.)
I'm essentially addicted to tumblr, but it's really a terrible website. It's not really the site's fault though. It's just all the users are ridiculous social justice warriors that think they're the saviors of humanity when they're really the stupidest people.
Men have unrealistic standards that should be changed, just like women. They have to struggle to have the ideal body type, and probably won't have it anyway, there are traditional man things that not all men are interested in, they are pressured too. To be honest, I think the biggest difference between the societal oppression against either gender is that the men's problems aren't acknowledged as much and not as many people fight for their equality. If he's not strong and manly, he's just a wimp. Anyone who doesn't fit into the ideal for either gender isn't really accepted very well in society. True feminists want even those men to have equality, and I wish the extremists hadn't taken over. Feminist is really a tainted label now...
Good point. Could say the same for grammar nazis. I think the term is really supposed to represent people who push their views on others and it gets annoying. But, yeah, people use the term 'nazi' lightly. I mean, there are still people alive who fought nazis or were nazis. They probably don't think it's appropriate to throw the term around like that.

It would be a refreshing change, that's for sure.
That's exactly it. It's not fair that girls are forced to drop out of school. Everyone is entitled to an education. Although, if teen pregnancy is something that needs to be prevented, they could start with a little reform in sex ed. The Netherlands for example, has one of the lowest teen pregnancy rates. Why? Kids learn about the reproductive system since kindergarten. First they're introduced to a basic understanding of love, then as they grow up, they get more detailed lessons of it. They also learn gender roles People are also freaking out over the increase of states legalizing gay marriage. They fear that the gay will spread to them. Some people just need a lesson in sensitivity. And logic.
It never is the site's fault. There are a lot of people who let their insecurity consume them and they want to feel important by bringing down others and when they find people who agree with them, then they see themselves as saviors. And those idiots defend themselves by saying that the website is violating the first amendment for taking down any negative comments. There was this one person about two years ago who caused this mayhem on fan fiction about two years ago, luckily it got taken down after three days. He/she posted a "story" in the Ice Age archives. It just dissed a character, and it had a lot of cursing and no logical reasons whatsoever. And that person defended himself by sating they had freedom of speech, Uh, no, freedom of speech is when you don't get arrested for speaking your mind. They should just consider themselves lucky it got removed because in a lot of other countries, the outcome is far worse for people like that. A lot of men don't even want to admit they're becoming victims of those things because they're been taught that it only happens to girls, and those who do speak out about it, they are not taken seriously. Instead, they are called "wimps" and "liars" and told to "man up". Just a while ago, I saw a clip of this guy who was telling a story on a talk show of how his ex-boyfriend abused him and the audience laughed at him. Thankfully the host had a sense of humanity and just silenced the audience with it.
I understand that. And "pushing" is putting it mildly. It goes to show you just how powerful one person's beliefs can become to the point where they brainwash an entire country. The hatred that the Nazis developed toward the Jews and other races are all a result of Hitler's own grudges. And this is just proof of how much of a disgusting individual he was. Not only was he responsible for one of the world's deadliest genocides, but he manipulated those people to carry out his so-called vendetta for him, and if that's not cowardly, I don't know what is. And you're right, there are still a lot of people who were Nazis, and they all have their own approach to their actions. Especially to groups of them who are probably ashamed of what they had done.

At the very least, kids should learn about birth control. Scary them with STIs doesn't always work. Especially with the invincibility complex lots of teenagers adopt. They'll just think, "that'll never happen to me" and do it anyway. So they should at least learn how to protect themselves from as much possible. I never learned anything about condoms or birth control or anything because my state doesn't allow that. They encourage abstinence. That may be the best form of prevention and protection... but you gotta teach options other than that.
I don't really support gay marriage, but I also don't care what they do with their personal lives. I used to be more strongly opinionated on the topic, but I've since stopped caring. Now gay marriage is legal in all 50 state, great for them. Just don't shove it in my face and try to respect those who believe it's wrong. I've had two main issues with this whole gay marriage thing. My state(Utah) had voted on it and voted to ban gay marriage back when it was still a state decision. Then some judge from Colorado decided the voters who had decided to ban it were wrong and forced the state to legalize it. I don't think it's right that one man overturned the decision of thousands of people. Second issue is that so many gay rights activists kept yelling at everyone to be tolerant. Even when people like me were like "we think homosexuality is a sin, but we can still be nice and respectful towards homosexuals," in other words, we were being tolerant like they wanted(I get that there are jerks who discriminate gays and whatnot, but that isn't the point), they screamed at us that we were discriminating. No, we just disagree. It wasn't enough to tolerate, they wanted wholehearted acceptance. I understand not all gay rights activists are like that, but so many people have been like that and it's frustrating. One of my friends was like that toward me.
So people do need to be understanding in both directions. Will the gay spread? Not unless it's a disease, which it isn't. Legalizing gay marriage won't make more people gay. I personally think gay marriage is wrong and shouldn't be legal. But I'm not going to attempt to repress it. What I will actively support is religious freedom, because I think that's the biggest danger of gay marriage. Gays can go ahead and get married, but I don't think they should force people to have anything to do with it if they believe it is wrong. There are places that will help you. I'm sorry they're harder to find, but that's just how it is. I don't mean to be rude, but religious freedom really needs to be protected.
Sorry that got a little long. But I do have a strong opinion on this topic(especially since it keeps popping up everywhere I look). It's a fairly neutral opinion, I think. Basically, it's: go ahead and get married gay people, just please don't force it on everyone.
When it comes to freedom of speech on websites, there are limits. Generally, to join websites, you 'sign' a terms of use policy, or something like that. It's basically a contract. You have to follow rules, and if you don't, you get punished. If you don't know the rules, it's your own fault because you didn't read them. Site managers do have a right to take comments like that down. I'm not expert or anything, but I thought it was fairly obvious. Fanfiction, for example, requires that what you post is actually fanfiction. It can't be original stories, poems, etc. Anything that doesn't fit their criteria can be taken down.
I wish men could go and say they were raped or abused or anything and have it be taken seriously(as long as they aren't lying about it). There's all this talk about female rights, but there are lots of people(again, they're the extremists) that don't acknowledge that there are pros and cons to being any gender.
As much as Hitler is a despicable person and I hate him, I do have to respect his ability to convince all those people that what he was doing was the right thing. It's a terrifying ability. Many of them were perfectly sane and intelligent people, and they still fell for it. And there were people who weren't even aware of the evils their country was committing. It's scary.

Yeah this is exactly what my sex ed class did. My teacher taught us methods of birth control but they're not effective against diseases. It says it in the name. It's BIRTH control, not STI control. In order to prevent yourself from getting any of those, you must use your common sense. And I know that a lot of schools do, but in all honesty, abstinence is the only form of birth control that guarantees 100% full protection.
And just like with abortion, I respect your opinion and even though I fully support the country's decision to legalize gay marriage, I understand that there are some people who simply don't support it. And if those activists yell at the anti-gay people then that is not activism, it's pure hypocrisy and if they can't have tolerance themselves, then there is no reason for them to be yelling at the opposing party. I'm fine if someone is anti-gay as long as they can express their opinion in a civilized and dignified manner, don't force their beliefs on to the people who believe otherwise and most importantly treat a homosexual with respect and courtesy like all human beings deserve to be, then I won't judge or yell. It's their belief and I cannot change it. The true key to peace is to accept ALL opinions, regardless of whether they're for or against.
Yeah true, but it's not like most people actually read them XD I admit to just scrolling down to the final page and then clicking the button. But regardless of that, the rules should be obvious and it's basically the golden rule you learn in kindergarten. Treat people the way you want to be treated. Don't diss anyone or bully anyone there and you'll be fine. If you do, there will be consequences.
Of course. Those are serious circumstances. No one should lie about them. I've seen posts about men and how they suffered rape and domestic abuse either by the hands of fellow relatives or significant others(and both of those can be either male or female) the same thing can be said for issues such as eating disorders and sexual harassment.
A girl in my English class once brought that up during an expository essay exercise. We were put in groups and given a quote about imagination and we had come up with examples, and she brought up Hitler and how much imagination he had that he used effectively. All the kids in my class were looking at her as if she's crazy, but I thought it was a legitimate answer. Sadly my teacher couldn't accept that. That's also correct. Like when Charlie Chaplin made The Great Dictator and parodied Hitler. It was one of the best pieces of satire ever made, but Chaplin even admitted that if he knew just how grave things were back in the day, he never would have made it.

Sorry it's been over a month since I replied. I enjoy our ridiculously long conversation, but the length makes it intimidating to sit and reply, if that makes sense.
Since basically got more information on birth control and whatnot, your sex ed was probably better than mine. Because my state isn't allowed to even show us a condom, it's no surprise we have some problems. It took me forever to even figure out what a condom was. Yikes, I was in 10th or 11th grade before I figured it out. Nobody ever told me. Thankfully birth control is not ever something I needed anyway. I believe abstinence to be the best method.
Anyway, I had a friend tell me a girl was interested in sleeping with him. Since I'm firmly against sex outside of marriage, I protested and told him it's a bad idea. But he couldn't understand why. I listed off pregnancy, STIs, and whatnot. But he insisted that there are things to protect from pretty much everything I listed. There was no getting through to him though, I wasn't gonna convince him of all the dangers. I don't think he went through with it though. Part of me actually thinks he lied to me. I'm fully aware that he likes me, so he might have been gauging my reaction. I'm not sure though.
You give me faith in humanity. There are just so many people yelling and freaking out when people don't agree with them. I blame extremists. Anyway, it's not a 'you're either for against' situation. There is fairly neutral ground here. I'm not pro-gay, but I'm not going to run around claiming that homosexuals are damned.
You don't necessarily have to accept or support other people's opinion. You really just gotta respect them and accept that they are allowed to have a different opinion without you getting all butt-hurt about it, if that makes sense.
I don't read them either. XD Just use some common sense and it should be okay.
I wish the golden rule was obvious as it should be. It's obvious to most people, but then there are the ones that just don't get it for some reason.
That sounds like a great answer to me. Imagination isn't all rainbows or fiction novels or stuff like that. Bad things take imagination and ingenuity as well. So I'd agree, Hilter was pretty imaginative and intelligent. He just used it in a terrible way.
I can't say I've seen The Great Dictator. Shame. I enjoy Chaplin's work, but I don't necessarily keep up with it nearly as well as you do. But I can understand what your saying. It's kinda of like Jaws. If the author had known it would cause such mass fear of sharks, he wouldn't have written it.

No problem. I understand I can get pretty detailed in those conversations that I tend to ramble. With interesting people such as yourself, it's worth the wait.
Yeah I live in New Jersey so schools are required by law to teach legitimate and thorough sex ed classes which in my school counted as my health class. Better late than never right? At least at that age you were more mature when you learned it. I learned what a condom was when I was 12 and I did not understand the function of it for another two or three years. Until then, I just kept calling them balloons because my mother explained to me they were kind of like that. Sometime in the middle of our health class, my teacher once told us a story when she was student teaching at another high school and one of her students came to her and told her his girlfriend is pregnant even though they got birth control pills. Turns out his girlfriend wasn't taking the one taking the pills, but HIM so... yeah.
I'll say it again. Birth control is strictly pregnancy prevention. It doesn't protect you from STI's. If you choose to sleep with someone without knowing their full medical history and you happen to catch HIV or something, that's on you. So yeah I see your point. I have nothing against people having premarital sex. If they know each other that intimately then why not? But I do agree that abstinence is the best way. Especially when you still don't know your partner enough.
There are people who just like, do or believe in things you're against and the best way to deal with it is to just shut up and let them be. Complaining about it is a waste of your time, energy and potential.
The only person I know to read the terms and conditions of something is Bilbo Baggins from The Hobbit. It's funny how a fictional character is more alert and suspicious of the fine print than we are.
That's the sad part. Not just online, but in person as well. Like I had this friend who last week asked me to take care of her guinea pigs for a month while she got settled in to college. Considering she was living on campus in Pennsylvania which is like two and a half hours from our town and a month passes by fairly quick, I thought "why not?". Then just yesterday she flat out tells me I'll have to look after them until the end of the school year which is in May and I put my foot down. She didn't even ask me if I would be fine with it, she just informed me and assumed I'll do it since the guinea pigs are at my house. I told her that I'll be busy with college as well, especially when I'm commuting, I have my own pets to take care of, and my nine year old sister who is autistic and my mom needs all the help she can get with her which are perfectly rational reasons in my opinion. I have so much responsibilities as it is, I don't need another one. What does she do? She disses me and curses at me. She asked me how I can do that when she's been nothing but a sister to me, but really, she's treated me like crap so many times, it makes me wonder why I even gave her so many chances to make up for it. Anyway, she was trying to coerce me into keeping the darn things by making up sob stories and telling me stuff like "I'm f*ing crying now" and "My boyfriend would take care of them" but I wasn't having any of that. Then she apologized for her behavior and said she'll come to pick them up next month, but after that, that girl is out of my life. Sorry for the rambling but I was just so appalled by the situation and I am so proud for finally standing up to her.
Yeah I felt bad for that girl. I liked that teacher because she always made class fun, but at the same time, she was very picky about the answers her students favored and she seemed to favor the "nerds" over the "cool kids" in debates like these so that might explain it. Oh really? Well I recommend it, it's a funny movie. I wouldn't say I know everything on the Chaplin films, but I watched his movies a lot when I was little and even had two of his movies on one video tape which I can't watch because our VCR is now in the closet collecting dust, and the last time I watched them, I accidentally hit the record button instead of play and ended up taping an episode of Hannah Montana on it XD

I'm glad I'm worth waiting a month for. XD
I thought most schools jammed the sex ed in with health. It makes sense, considering I don't think anyone wants a semester of just sex ed. But anyway, yeah, I'm glad I finally got it. I mostly got it through clues like a joke a heard, saying something about how rubber gloves were made by using a real hand as a mold and if that were the case, imagine how they made condoms. It was the first I had even heard of condoms. Eventually I figured it out despite never being told what they were. I guess they do look kinda like balloons.
That's hilarious and kind of sad. Do some schools not teach that the girl is supposed to take the birth control? Even I, in my abstinence-only state, was taught that(but maybe that has to do with being taught this stuff more? I took child development classes and stuff like that, so I learned it a few more times and in more detail than most of my peers, I guess). Maybe I'm not as ignorant as I thought, now that I think about it.
If the couple will stay that committed to each other, then I don't see any reason they shouldn't get married. But it's not like I'm going to stop anyone from doing what they want. If they want to stay boyfriend and girlfriend or whatever they are, then they can go ahead. I just know that people cohabitate and have premarital sex are more likely to divorce or breakup or whatever term you'd like to use. That doesn't mean they won't work out or anything, don't get me wrong, I'm just mentioning it. My uncle cohabitates with his girlfriend and her kids and they've been together awhile and I kinda like her, so it's not like I'm out to judge anyone.
Back to the point though. If you're going to have premarital sex, be smart about it. I'd strongly recommend keeping your partners to a minimum and knowing their medical condition in that area.
Glad there are people who understand that. There's nothing wrong with having a discussion or trying to explain your point of view to anyone. Just as long as nobody shoves their opinion down the other's throat. And if you absolutely have to complain, rant in a journal or something.
Terms of Service agreements are just so many words and nobody want to take the time to read all that. We should be more aware of these types of things, but... we aren't. Actually, I once downloaded something and a couple agreements popped up and I actually read a little bit. I discovered that there were a bunch of extra agreements for extra programs that I didn't want to download. So I said no to the ones I didn't want and kept the one that I did. It was a smart move on my part, if I do say so myself.
It's hard to stand up to someone like that, especially if it's a friend. I'm glad you did though. You shouldn't have to have extra responsibility if you don't want to. Rodents aren't exactly easy to take care of(I've had mice, gerbils, and hamsters before with varying success). Also, if her boyfriend would do it for her, then why didn't she just go to her boyfriend in the first place? That's not a good excuse, in my opinion.
I used to have a friend kind of like that when I was younger. She was my best friend in elementary and we liked to play house and stuff like that, ya know? Well, she always had to have her way. She had to be the mom, or the baby, or whatever it was. And if I argued, she'd threaten not to be my friend anymore. We kinda drifted apart after I moved, so I guess that ended that. I don't know what she's like now or anything. We're friends on facebook, but we don't really talk anymore. That's okay though, I have better friends now.
I've never really had problems with teachers, but I can understand that the favoritism exists. Some teachers prefer the ones that are more outspoken, and I can understand that since those students will participate and ask questions and answer questions. But there's people like me who don't really say much and just listen quietly. I learned plenty, but some teachers looked over me a bit and I doubt they ever really knew my name. But most of my teachers new me, so no problem. But I'd heard the choir teacher at my high school(I preferred orchestra, so this is just secondhand knowledge) would favor the more popular kids. I had friends leave choir because the teacher would do that.
My experience with Chaplin is mostly from my Sign Language class. My teacher would have us watch them every now and then. The only part I didn't really like was that we often had to write a little about what was going on. It wasn't a hard assignment to do, and it was short so we could just watch it after we were done, but it was still an assignment.
Hannah Montana? XD Oh dear. That's unfortunate (Not that I hate Hannah Montana, but I'd rather have a Charlie Chaplin tape). I remember VCRs. I had one of those DVD/VCR players for awhile, which was nice because I could watch the tapes and DVDs, but now it's in the basement. I still don't have a Bluray player, but my brother's PS3 can play them.

It's just so much more convenient that way. Plus we didn't get into the actual sex ed right away. We began with nutrition and how the way we eat effects our future, then started on a Life Project which we had to pretend we're already living on our own with jobs. We had to manage a budget and everything. We were allowed to work with partners if we wanted, but we had to refer to them as our spouse or any other equivalent of a married person, whether or not we had kids was optional. We also had to draw "chance cards" from a plastic baggie, go with whatever we ended up with and write journal entries for that. The majority of the life project had to be done at home so while we were working on it, we got lessons on the reproduction system, STI's, birth control methods, abstinence, LGBT rights, domestic abuse... yeah, it was a very legit class. And yes, everyone was laughing at that story, even me I admit it. I know that birth control pills are also prescribed to young girls with imbalanced hormones and acne problems so I can only imagine what that poor kid went through after consumption of them...
It's all a matter of opinion, and I hate people who just don't understand that. There are a lot of people who are scared of anything out of the norm, so the easiest way for them to cope with it is to judge it. Like in Poland, there are so many religious people who are openly racist homophobic and hypocritical and just thrive on judging the hell out of anything they deem weird. Some of my family members there are like that too.
I try to fully read the terms and conditions, but in the middle of reading them, I still scroll down to skim them, and just click the little button. Yeah I'm trying to grow out of it. And yes I do know how much work is required for rodents, I had hamsters when I was little and I remember how much how much work we had to do with them, with guinea pigs, it was twice as much, and honestly, I think they're better off not staying with me because my dog kept barking at them and my sister liked to blow into their cage, so they were kind of scared. I'm proud of myself that I stood up to her, but on the other hand, I still feel stupid I haven't done so years ago. I've known that girl since sixth grade and we were very close but at the same time, she treated me more like a sidekick than a friend, giving me orders which she really could have done herself and I always had that little voice in my head telling me to just stop doing all those things for her, but I ignored it because I considered her to be my only friend, another stupid move because she really wasn't. Then high school came and we kind of drifted apart. In short, I always thought I needed her more than she needed me and no friendship should be built like that.
That still sounds like an interesting assignment. I actually saw Chaplin's biographical film where Robert Downey Jr. played him from the 90's earlier in the year and with all the films that he made, only six of them were talkies. When any of the movie studios demanded there be sound in them, he mostly defied them with his creative mind. Like with this one scene where they were talking about making a movie where a blind girl mistakes Chaplin's for a millionaire so of course that should require talking, and Chaplin got into this heated argument with the crew and the producers when he said he wants it to be silent. He got his way so how did he portray this little dilemma? The blind girl heard the door of a fancy car close when Chaplin happened to be near her. Of course that could have been any old car door closing, but whatever worked right?
Haha yeah, I was just watching the film, it got all staticky and the next thing I know, clips of the new episode appeared. I kind of freaked out about it, pressed the eject button, and stacked the tape back in the closet where I hoped my parents won't find out about it XD but that was five years ago and that was before Christmas when we got a flat screen then it was out with the old, in with the new so we haven't touched the VCR or any of the tapes ever since, but I still think back to that little accident sometimes.

Sounds more convenient. People are so scared to teach kids about sex and whatnot. I understand it's an uncomfortable topic, but the risk is decreased when they are taught about it. Rather than going about willy nilly, they actually know a little about what they are doing and are more likely to be careful about it.
I did something kinda similar, on a smaller scale. I just had to manage a budget, find an apartment to live in, all that fun stuff. The teacher let us use our wages from our jobs, but I didn't have one so I was stuck with minimum wage. I didn't have a partner either, just an imaginary one, so I ended up struggling a lot with the project. It's hard to do anything with minimum wage; it's not meant to support people, it's mostly for inexperienced workers like high school for spending money or stuff like that. I was finding the cheapest shampoo I could find. Even so, I managed to set up a budget that put me only $4(I think?) in debt at the end of the month. Considering the circumstances, I think that's pretty good.
Yikes. That poor guy... that's why kids need to be taught about what things are and how to use them.
That's unfortunate. Being religious is not a problem, using it to somehow justify discrimination is. There's only so much you can do about it. Anyway, I don't really know anyone I would deem as overly racist. But I have seen hints of it in people I know, nothing really discriminatory, just stuff like my mom saying, "I can't imagine you marrying a black guy." You know? People talk about how racist America is and yadda yadda. I sick of hearing that. America is not the only place in the world with problems.
Oh, the poor guinea pigs(that's what you were taking care of, right? Yikes, it's been so long, I'm sorry).
I don't remember if I told you, but I once had a friend sort of like that. I met her in 1st grade, then we drifted apart after I moved after 4th grade. That's a short time to me now, but it felt like forever then. Anyway, she would always demand her way when we played games. She wanted to be the mom, she wanted to be the baby, etc. And if I protested, she'd threaten not to be my friend anymore. I didn't want to stop being friends, but we eventually just sorta...stopped talking. Not for any specific reason. Most people in toxic relationships(which is what I'll call your situation and my little example) don't even realize it's a problem, so I can understand why you didn't act sooner. No friendship should be built like that. It's similar for romantic relationships too. Both people should feel like they have equal standing in the relationship(platonic or romantic). If one feels inferior, the issue should be addressed.
I enjoyed watching them, but never made much effort to watch Chaplin on my own. Really? That's cool. I like that he insisted he have his way. Silent movies were his thing, and he shouldn't be forced to change that. XD I guess she knows was a fancy car door sounds like. It must sound new or something, I don't know. If it works, it works.
Now they'll never know. XD I would still be mortified over the accident. I'm sure I'd laugh about it a bit too. But I'd get over the regret years later. I'm sure you can replace it with new DVD or something if you really want to.
