Gah~! I fail miserable! TT^TT I wish I could make these awesome, cute, super addictive (as read) paper stars! I want to be obsessed too.
I can't seem to make it puff... >________> I think I'm digging at it too hard or something, actually I feel that I am performing one of the steps wrong.
Very good tutorial at least it helped me! I've always wanted to make these! Thankyou!

Of course!
Hmmm. Is the star sort of crushing in on itself when you try to make it puff? If it does, it might be a little bit too thin.

I keep trying but am still failing... I have a feeling that maybe something like that might be the problem. Damn, I wish I could make them.
Thankyou for taking the time to help me you're very nice! I will try to make it a little wider. ;D

I would cute a reaaaally long and thin strip and fold until you think it's thick enough. Experiment!

Guess what! I think I found out my problem. I don't thik my pentagon was perfect so which was caused by not having a proper cut strip. I cut one really careful so it was near perfect and now it's working. Except I still have problems with puffing it, I find it really hard and I just end up squishing it TT^TT But I try to be careful, but then get irritated XDD
Thanks for your help!

yup, its the first onw i found that really worked. the difference is that way the tutorial says to make the star's point things. the rest say what yours said not to do. your way, pressing the sides, worked. thing is, my mom chopped my nails off months ago. they're still tthe same nubs, they wont grow. come to think of it, i haven't grown really at all since then O. o. heh heh, i'm babbling. sorry

Knitsune In reply to garfield10125 [2009-12-31 07:21:39 +0000 UTC]
It's alright! Yeah, I find that the stars LOOK better when they're pressed in and not pinched as well. They have better points and neater sides and I like how they look more. Plus there's less chance of crushing the star.
No worries! They'll grow eventually :3

nice. i'm SO glad i joined DA, it's just that the people round me aren't into the kind of art i am. DA has really helped me in art, and i'm glad to find other people who make changes to something because they found something that they believe can be improved. sometimes the people you've never truly met, are more like you than the people you've known almost your whole life. i know they'll get better, it's just my sister keeps bugging me to teach her how to make one (a.k.a. she tries, makes mistakes on every step, and i end up doing it for her), and i'm getting a little stressed from it. my sister is a DEVIL, i swear, she does things like that JUST to annoy me. ugh, long message by the way, what are you doing up at 2:30 AM?

oklahoma... oklahoma.. dont remember where that is exactly, but it IS really late/early.i'll remember eventually this is what i love about the internet. you get to meet people that could live on the other side of the world, or right next door. you get to meet "foreign" people without throwing away a heap load a cash. except for electricity and paying for the internet, but the trip would cost more. ugh, long response
i gotta stop babblin.

ACTUALLY....
I'm having trouble with the last step, where you have to pinch the edges. It's just like... crumpling in on it's self
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Knitsune In reply to Neonnailvarnish [2009-12-30 03:29:02 +0000 UTC]
Ooooh, you might have it a little too thin. Are you pinching the edges or are you pushing them in with your nail? I notice that when you pinch, they crush too easily. It's easier to gently push on the center of one side with your thumbnail (whichver works though xD) and it'll poof.
Like I said though, your star may be a little too thin, so try a longer strip and fold it a bit more before poofing.

Hmm...
What measurements of the paper should I use? Y'know to make it thick enough?
Thankyouuu

Knitsune In reply to Neonnailvarnish [2009-12-31 01:31:56 +0000 UTC]
I find it easiest to use lined paper for practice because the lines can be used as guides to cut the strips. Why not give those a try? Or you can cut one super long piece and see how that works for you. I generally find that it should be several times longer then it is wide. Generic star strips are usually 10 mm wide by 150 mm long.

ok. ive done this about 38 times. maby 39. i lost count. but no matter which side i fold under (step 2)it doesnt look like step 3.its always backwards or flipped or something. ive been doing the same 2 steps for over an hour. wtf?

Wow, this is old and I thought I'd replied to it, so sorry!
If you're doing it right it should look exactly like step three. Fold the left end of the strip over the right and slip it through the loop at the bottom and you'll get it :3
👍: 0 ⏩: 0
Knitsune In reply to shiloh1233 [2009-07-01 02:41:04 +0000 UTC]
Make sure you're folding the left end over the right end and tucking it through the resulting loop. Pull it tight and flatten it out :3 The dotted line on the third step is just where you fold the tab.
