I have always loved his work! I remember watching "Fire and Ice" for the first time when I was younger. His style is such a pleasing difference from the waif-y look in the fashion world.

I had never even heard of that. I just watched a trailer and then stumbled on Cool World too! I've got a secret soft spot for Bakshi, I didn't know he'd worked with Frazetta before!

Oh, yes. I found it a good 15 years ago in my father's movie collection after he died and it's been one of my favorites ever since. I guess it is a pretty old movie... Oi, I feel old... I'm glad I was able to direct a Frazetta fan toward it though! I recognized the subjects and style of this piece immediately! It's beautiful.

This has alot of movement to it, especially in the tiger lurking in the background. Very fluid and desaturated, like Frank Valejo. Excellent job!

Haha it's based off of a Frank Frazetta painting, but thank you very much C:

This is fantastic! Brilliant, even for a rendition.
I hear you can learn a lot by reproducing or mimicking another's work or style -- was this true for you?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Knollilocks In reply to Oshouki [2010-06-29 09:14:19 +0000 UTC]

Definitely, but mostly with colour mixing and what to saturate and desaturate. Colour picking off of an image really changes what you think you're seeing. Do you ever try that?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Oshouki In reply to Knollilocks [2010-07-01 17:19:09 +0000 UTC]

I have (and I should get back to doing it more often.) It is really surprising how colour is perceived in the image versus how it is percieved on the palette.

My dad loves Frank's work too. I remember trying to draw the big busty women and wild animal stuff back in the day, just to please him, and he'd hang 'em on the fridge even if they were horrible, haha.

You did a really nice job with this.

Knollilocks In reply to ThePervySponge [2010-06-29 09:29:28 +0000 UTC]

haha, do you still? XD I was always drawing Boris Vallejo as a kid

ThePervySponge In reply to Knollilocks [2010-06-29 16:10:41 +0000 UTC]

I still occasionally draw women for my dad, Haha.

And Boris Vallejo too? My dad has one of his calendars hanging up in his room! xD When they expire when the year is up he either saves them or takes them apart to hang up in the garage. Needless to say, we have a lot of weird sci-fi and fantasy stuff with half-naked women to look at every time we park the car.

Frank Frazetta would be proud, God rest 'em. Even beyond the coloring, the composition and palate are great. Esp. The differentiation between the woman in the center and the surrounding greens and blacks, as balanced by the blue sky in the background.

Haha I can't claim much credit [link] [link]
I cheated thoroughly, my Dad is a big fan so I didn't feel too shady colour picking right off of his canvass XD
