Here is an early concept design for the blue boy himself, Sonic Hedgehog!

While keeping true to the overall look of Sonic, we wanted to try a few new things to make him stand out and one of them was the idea of separated eyes rather than the standard mono-eye design he always has. We felt it was odd that everyone else around Sonic in SatAM had two eyes and he was the odd man (or would that be odd hog?) out.

This idea of ours goes back a long way in the early planning stages of the project and then the Movie design beat us to it. Curse you movie design Sonic! And great job by Tyson Hesse on the final movie design look!

So here he is, in all his Hedgehog glory! And that backpack is stuffed full of chili dogs.

Keep in mind that as an early design, this doesn't represent the final look of what Sonic will look like.
