Description After all that drawing at the museum, I went back to an old leopard drawing I made last week, analyzed why it was wrong, and tried to do some better ones.

I think he was my favorite too... might try taking him to color, perhaps, see if he stays cool when I try it.

Notes make it sink in more, ya know?

You did a very nice job with the entire series of these sketches you just posted. I really like how clean they end up. Do you freehand much?

I like how you add comments to your sketches. I usually don't because I hate writing. But I suppose that'd be a good strategy for improvement.

I'm going to try personally to go to the zoo and sketch up some stuff this summer. I need to get outdoors and do stuff, ya know? Keep up the good work, Kobb.

It's just that the act of writing it down makes the observation more permanent. I think of sketchbooks as self-teaching tools, so sometimes I flip through old ones and notes like these are great to remind myself of the observations I made. That way I get more out of the experience.

And what do you mean by "freehand"? Drawing without an undersketch? When I draw with ink pens I can't rough it out as much because the line is darker (as opposed to ballpoint which still lets you sketch) but I use ballpoint or pencil most of the time, so not terribly often.

The sketches are amazing, but I have to state, the comments are just as amazing. It's really fun and intriguing to see an artist's mind spin through these sorts of things that the casual eye wouldn't catch. (And it's mostly legible!)

I can't get the commentary to turn off, so I'm always writing little things everywhere. It's like Dakkan... won't shut up.

Dak: "Hey!"

But yeah. I thought posting this with the notes just might be useful to someone else, so I figured why not?

*gasp* And no comments yet?

Excellent, excellent sketches, all of them! Your art is always so nice to look at.

I wish I could learn to draw better just by staring at these all day instead of actually drawing from life, but then the whole rewarding part of drawing would be gone. To the zoo, I guess.

Thanks! I love observational drawings that actually turn out. If I could get this comfortable with drawing people... *sigh*

Zoos are awesome. I wish you luck, sir.

Also noticed the notes you took. I caught onto the habit of taking notes as well.

And I'm not going to the zoo anytime soon, unluckily.
