Description The Bridge section is giving me quite the headache at this point.  I've done it a few times now and I think a ball-polygon at 64-sides will work best.  Leiji Matsumoto's combination of World War II features (like a multi-glass pane cockpit/bridge) and the smooth contours of a Flash-Gordon style rocket-ship are difficult to combine in 3D using verticies, edges and polygons that are all flat.

Here is the Fourth Update on this project.
The bridge glass was extremely difficult to get right (and it still isn't exact, but then again neither are ANY of the images I found as references).

That is one sexy design ...

Thank you.
Leiji Matsumoto's designs are very elegant, and very hard to make.
I have not had time to work on it since March, and do plan on getting back to it at some point.

Oh Lord indeed. Times like these... in-between ideas of grand Masters and your lush love of fire to create, needs to be resolved quickly otherwise being lost is an inevitable end.  I also do dislike of being stuck, respect vs  exciment ...  so I always go with the utmost childish aproach. hehehe

Thank you.  I should have more soon.  Right now I'm working on my own ship--Saturn Class frigate--which is having UV-Map problems.

A UV map that doesn't cooperate...how unheard of.

I'll keep an eye out for the other ship too

I know right.

The Saturn class I'm doing uses a "diamond" primitive-polygon as the foundation for its bridge, so I'm having a heck of a time getting Headus UV-Layout to import it without chopping up the seams in places I do not want cut.  It is simply a matter of trial and error with the mesh-geometry.

Looks good but I thought you are making the refitted (my version) of it.

I will be making your version along with this one.
The refits and upgrades will be done once I have a base-model to work with.
All the components are modular (different objects) so I change out the bridge section, the turrets, the front spade, just about everything without having to make an entirely new model.
Like when Star Trek fans make versions of the Constitution class (or D-7 type ships), they usually make the classic version first then work that model into the refits for Phase-II, the Movies, and whatever other upgrades they chose.

After a six hour memtest of my computer, and a run to Microcenter,  I had to replace only 1 stick of memory (I use 16 on my workstation).  My rig is now back up and running.

My computer crashed this morning.
I'm now using my back-up computer (laptop) which does not have the ability to do this level of 3D graphics).
I don't know what it is yet (it will not go past the BIOS POST).
I'm thinking it could be memory.
HOPEFULLY, it is not any of my HDDs.
The Mobo and Graphics cards are new(ish), but the memory is server ECC-registered memory (which is notorious for going bad, even the Samsung sticks).
This will delay me for a bit.

Thank you very much for those images.  I have the Hyper-Mechanical Detail books, but I do not like to handle them (I keep them in large, comic-book/graphic novel bags).
Those are very helpful.
The model is coming along again.  I have gotten the top turret, raw object done, and am still working on the raw of the bridge section.

Nice update Kodai!

As one who had her own encounters with Matsumoto san's unique mix of mechanical styles, yes... oh god yes... some shapes are more difficult than others in 3D but don't let this discourage you!

Isokaze / Yukikaze looks to be coming along wonderfully so keep at it!

Thank you,

It is proving to be quite a challenge to do.

Hello:
Oh dear, I know how some shapes are so tricky to make, also tricky if you want lo-polygon because you'll have to mess with the texture aswell .

But you are going great! it is very hard to get a ship to look accurate without an orthos diagram.

Hi Chiletrek,

It's a MONSTER!!!
OH...MY....GAWD is the bridge hard to do on this ship.  I've done a box--no good.  I did a disk-based polygon--no good.  I finally settled in a sphere that I have been hand-shaping each point, and edge of.  It is painstaking work.

Hello:
Darn . I just hope you were able to get the shape as you want it to be.
