For Once, Alone - ASTRIDThe trees were eerily still, in contrast to the never ending sound of songbirds which echoed cheerfully through the air. Tall pines loomed overhead as a single figure trudged, crestfallen, uncaring for the gleeful sounds above her. Astrid exhaled, exhausted, frustrated, as she paused yet again between a myriad of tree trunks and game paths.
She was, for the first time in her life, completely alone.
The sounds of the forest were familiar to her ears – they were much the same as they had been back on the island, and on the mainland. It was the scents that assaulted her nose, forcing her to keep a weary eye. Already, she had twice ignored the warning scent markers, telling her that the territory belonged to someone else, and twice she had been met with the silent, but reproachful stare of those one who owned them.
Silently but clearly told to move along, she did so. There was no trace of anyone she recognized from back home in these woods – only the telling signs of strangers.

The old wolf walked with a purpose as she stalked through the pack grounds, searching for Astrid’s dark fur, her mind going a mile a minute. When the order was given that all Jovian wolves needed to find their ranks, Gaiana had been excited. She didn’t want to laze around or give off the impression that she was dead weight. She wanted - no, needed - to work. However, when she had discovered how lacking the pack was with their available tasks, Gaiana decided she would take a generic title and talk to Astrid about it.
There was no way she was going to babysit - not that she could anyways when there were already two other wolves who had decided on that job. And she couldn’t really hunt. But she could fight. That, Gaiana prided herself on. But this pack didn’t ask for any fighters. They were virtually defenseless! That was unacceptable!
When she finally caught a glimpse of Astrid, Gaiana quickly cut across. “Astrid! Mind gi

The fire that burned within his stomach began to slowly fade in time as he walked alongside Lapis, using her body as a means of guidance as they began to approach the beach. He felt no shame at leaving Draugar’s rugged terrain behind, only regret that Nahimana was not willing to listen to his words. All the anger that had built within him for months was left to fester more, but the minute he caught Lapis’ scent, Nanuk suddenly stopped caring. What had happened no longer mattered to him so long as he was with her and here they were, about to enter another chapter into their lives. Nanuk had to admit, he was nervous about meeting her alpha, hoping that she was not another deadbeat who took off suddenly and without warning.
He brushed up against Lapis, mindful of the noises and smells around them as well as the sounds of their paws against the ground. “So… Jova? You like it there?” he asked, wanting to make sure ahead o
