Tablet-drawn and coloured in OpenCanvas. OpenCanvas is great for these sorts of soft-heavy colours and slightly damp-feeling brushes. It's a real shame it isn't available for the Mac. This piece was done as a contest entry for Wayward Insecticon's "Draw the Bugs" competition [didn't win, oh well].

This was the first serious piece I did with the tablet, and looking at it now I can see a whole pile of mistakes. I should have made the black parts of Kickback and Bombshell much blacker, and given them heavier shadows, especially on sides facing the viewer. As it is, they look faintly moss-covered, which is rather a nice effect, but the shadows are still in the wrong place. I spent so much time sorting out the creepers behind Shrapnel and the water he's standing in, I never really gave enough attention to the flora in the foreground.
On the other hand, Shrapnel looks pleasingly radiant in those sunbeams, and Bombshell's profile is pretty good. Most of the proportions are subtly off, and there aren't really any properly straight edges, but I'm still pleased with things here and there, like the light yellow light on Kickback's rear insect-legs.
