Description
This is a commission for someone I know in real life! She wanted me to do a portrait of her dog!
And after this commission, I've been thinking about a few things...
First off, if I would have stated how much she paid me,it would make no sense to deviantART.
The point system really has ruined people, and I am a victim.
My mom asked me what I wanted to price it at and first stated $20.
But my mom said that it was WAY too low, so I estimated hours for each part and got to $40 or $50.
My mom said $50 was perfect and the client thought so too!
After about 10 hours of work, it seemed perfect. When I showed my client the drawing, she even gave me an extra $20 with the $50.
I was happy, I felt like for once I was helping out my family financially~
So I was thinking about here... I look at my commission prices and see that I spend about half that time and don't even get $20...
I feel like increasing my prices would bring be confidence, yet I'm sure the point system is affecting it all and now I can't do that.
BUT for this kind of portrait, I used a method that takes SO LONG and yet it turned out to be this.
I'm done with people complaining about prices, I might as well raise them and appreciate whoever choses to buy.
I will still have auctions but the minimum amounts will probably not be the same!
So I might increase my other prices more and this kind of pet portrait (Its a 8x10 image in all pencil) will stay as $40-$50 minimum.
I want to say that all of you out there. Commissioners and such. Please don't let the point system get to you. Like come on. $5 is 400 points.
For an OUTSTANDING piece of artwork, that's really nothing.
Please appreciate artists more, thank you!
I hope you like it!
