Description
I still love the look of inked comic art. I know scanning pencils is the new thing but I'm still feel'n the old skool style. This is the black and white version of the color piece I posted earlier.

Here's to inks making a come back!

It has a serious cult following. Not sure there will be anymore.

Maybe it is because inking requires a different skillset from pencils? Especially with tight pencilwork it's really easy to scan and apply those 'anime colors' that hardly ever require real solid black.
Pencils also have a different quality that simply can't be replicated with inks. I have seen some call it 'energy' or 'flow' but I don't know if those are the right words.
I use ink (and hope to get a handle on how it works), because my pencils are very loose and hardly ever look finished. The ink can help me to complete the process, at least mentally, because once they're there, I can't change anything anymore.

True. Everything is about the Anime colors. Inking is something worth learning. It takes a lot of time but the result can take a piece to a whole other level.

You don't happen to have an appropriate tutorial handy, do you?
(I've read the last one you linked me to and am urging to try out those techniques on my next piece...)

Looking forward to it.
Oh, btw, I read through the coloring one you gave me the other day. I just wanted to thank you for it again. It's really great and made me mind things that I hadn't thought of before.

I don't know if it did. It's still taking some time to sink in/grasp all of the information. But you can see some humble results here ...

There's just some things that can't be replaced. Inks on comic pages should be one of them. Sure, it's nice to see an occasional book shot from an artists pencils - but not every comics and not every time. Save it for the "director's cut" or something.
And I love the inks here, BTW.

Thanks..I still really love inked work. I know everything is about the color but when something has great line work..it drops my jaw.

I know what you mean. I prefer the inked pages to the scanned from pencils. Of course, I would buy all my books in black and white if I could. Sometimes I look at the colors of a book and am amazed. Other times, I look at the pages and wished I could see in black and white. Like Final Crisis Director's Cut. JG Jones' art without colors or captions. Just the art followed by the script.
