Description A piece I penciled inked and colored. I can't say much about it or who is working on it. Come to think of it I can't even say the name of the project.

That being said. I wanted to share the art with you.

In retrospect I should have knocked back the buildings so they looked farther away but I'm way to lazy to go back and fix it.

It will just have to stay that way!!!.

Messing around with textures and texture brushes. The sky is actually a photo I messed around with and painted over. I like how it turned out.

I love the use of the peace symbol on battle armor. Are those silhouettes on the wall shades of a nuclear explosion?

The sky came out pretty amazing too.

I'll have to ask the creator of the series. I'm just the hired gun on this one. From what he's told me..it's a pretty cool story.

Of all the things on the piece the thing I dig most is the sky...i guess it's the little things. You are the only one who noticed the peace symbol. Good eye brother.

Yeah, interesting... Wasn't sure what to make of it. Reading the entry about the number "88" - so I figure it's something to do with your new book. It's definitley got my interest...

I don't know if you give it a thumbs up or a thumbs down. hehehe. It's a different way of telling a story through pictures. Keep reading and see where it goes...

Have you checked out the new 88 video yet? How have things worked out post academy?

StevenWilcox In reply to KomicKarl [2008-03-10 14:25:32 +0000 UTC]

Nah, sorry. Been away from the computer since Wednesday except for quick job searches here and there. On top of leaving the academy, I had to move because we discovered black mold in our apartment and my wife is deathly alergic to it. We basically realized we needed to move on Sunday, found a nes place and boxes pack into on Monday, packed Tuesday and Wednesday, moved on Thursday.

It's been very hectic, to say the least. We've been getting everything settled since Thursday.

To answer your question about life post academy - it's been crazy. Looking for a job, though. The market here is really bad, so it's been slow going.

I promise to check out the latest 88 video later today, though.

I'm alright in graphic design stuff. Looking into just getting a no-brainer type of job while I finish up school. The wife got a really good job that pays prety well. I just need to bring in some extra. Thought about doing some freelancing art stuff on the side...

i really like the battle feel, and how you added so much detail without it being overwhelming.

are you an actual comic book artist? (that probably sounds stupid) like actually selling them and whatnot?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

KomicKarl In reply to Bojkins [2008-03-03 17:29:26 +0000 UTC]

thanks. I battle too much detail in my work all the time. I think part of my brain wants to noodle everything and part of my brain wants everything super clean. Yes..I'm conflicted.

I'm "actually" a comic artist. I used to draw BloodStrike and my own comics Deith, Saint Angel and Catseye and the infamous book "Q-Unit" I'm doing a new book called "88" It should be out this summer.

how do you go about getting into that business? i really want to become a full fledged comic artist after i graduate high school and college, but i really have no idea how.

KomicKarl In reply to Bojkins [2008-03-03 23:54:50 +0000 UTC]

Wow, That's a small question with a big answer. I'll try and keep it simple. It really boils down to what you want to do. If you want to work with the big two (Marvel, DC) you need to submit samples or show your art to an editor at a convention.
If you want to publish your own comics that's a whole other can of worms.

Bojkins In reply to KomicKarl [2008-03-03 23:57:57 +0000 UTC]

is it even really possible to publish your own with those two big ones around? i think i COULD do the whole super hero thing if , by very small chance i would be hired, but my comics are less action more story and character development. think there's even an audience for that? lol

KomicKarl In reply to Bojkins [2008-03-03 23:59:40 +0000 UTC]

It's not impossible to publish your own work. It's a matter of scale. Look at the guy who did Blankets. That book is indie and it's sold a ton of books. It's all about what you are trying to achieve.

i see. thanks very much!! all was very helpful.

oh and in that last message i said "i think i could do the superhero thing." didnt mean for that to sound as arrogant as it might have, i was going for more of a "i could learn to do the superhero thing."after much tedious research and practice, of course

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

KomicKarl In reply to Bojkins [2008-03-08 08:11:55 +0000 UTC]

Well the superhero thing is the standard. If you want to have the best chance of working in American comics it's the main style so I can see why you would refer to it as a "superhero thing". I mean as long as you can draw and tell a story you should be able to do any type of story you want. It doesn't sound arrogant to me..but than again I'm full of myself..hahahaha
