The red is really hard on the eyes...

But that's some good advise (I feel like repeating myself). I wish it had been there when I started to play around with colours.

I have a couple of questions:
1) What happens when you set the linart layer to 'normal'. I ask because I keep seeing the 'multiply' thing mentioned over and over again but in GIMP (which is the program I use) there is no difference either way.
2) Doesn't the pencil give far to hard edges, compared to the paintbrush tool? Due to this I find the latter far more helpful to coloring.

The red type is hard on the eye?

Did you copy the layer and than set it to Multiply..and than color on the layer underneath?

If you set the opacity on the pencil really low it will not have a hard edge. In fact it works more like a paint brush than the airbrush tool.

Hope that helps.

... ah yes the letters, of course (only now realized that the robot, too is red and thus my first statement could've come off as a critique of the art, which it was not.)

Oh, nope. I usually use GIMP's "colour to transparency" tool to just have the lineart. Then I create a new layer beneath on which I apply the colours. I hadn't considered this. When working with a b/w piece, I see how multiply is neccessary.

I'll have to try that out. I always find it very frustrating how littel colour the airbrush tool applies when set to low opacity, this might be a solution...

Thank you, Karl!
