Description Here's a few tips for creating depth in your color sketches. This is an overview. If this is useful for people I may do a more complete version that goes into detail.
All comments are welcome. Feel free to drop your ideas about this subject and I'll try and work them into a future tutorial.

This is very useful to someone like me. I have a difficult time of color. The value studies help, but then the complication of warm and cool color befuddles me
(yes, I did say befuddle) in the depth of field value scale. So I do black and white! LOL!! Problem solved.

Hey..that's one way to solve it..lol...

I guess it boils down to mood also..and base color.

Yeah, but I get the gist of what you were saying though in the tutorial. So I gotta pick up this 88 book, is it out yet? I haven't read comics in quite some time and am interested in seeing what's out there, in non mainstream terms that is. I have no interest in the latest and greatest version some artist/writer has in revising the Hulk, Wolverine, or Elektra. Nor do I care for whatever Earth Crisis revamp version 6.0 DC has up their sleeve LOL!
Is your book carried by anyone in particular in the Valley that you know of?

The preview book is out. Well as in I'm selling it. lol...I'm like Jay Z selling $hit out of the back of my car. lol..seriously I have a few left.
Comics is for the most part in a sorry state. There's not much visually happening in comics. I'm trying to do something different with 88 hopefully people will dig it. If they don't no worries.

I'm going to put out the actual book later this year.

I like this, it's very helpful
Is this how you start a scene that is going to have characters added? And are you doing all the different colors on seperate layers?

KomicKarl In reply to katat0nik [2006-08-07 01:20:09 +0000 UTC]

Well it's more for doing color sketches before you do a big piece..but than you can turnaround and use it for your final. It works for doing complex scenes...but it's a good rule of thumb for lots of stuff...hmm maybe I need to write all this down...when I work with scanned pencils..I put the pencils on a layer and multply them in layers and color under it..wth bkgrounds I think light to dark works as an overall themes..but when I color figures..I work from the 2nd darkest color to light building towards the highlight and than I put in the really dark shadows last to make contrast...hmmm...Ahm loopy today
