Description
Now check out Glass Notepad v2.0Thank you for over 30,000 views and 25,000 downloads, just from DA!
WOW! I can't thank everyone enough! This app has been added to So[link] and has been added to DownloadTube! I didn't even ask for it either! And i have recieved an award from DownloadTube for this! This has been given the Top Software award from DownloadTube as well! Here are the links to the two new locations - DownloadTube and So [link] .
Coming soon: French and Arabic translations, thanks to Abderrahmane KASSAR
I have been receiving alot of messages about pasting into this app lately, and i want to clarify some thing. If you paste using right click or the edit menu instead of CTRL+V the text will be visible, also if you do insist on pasting with CTRL+V i added a button down at the bottom that says "Color to White", if you click that it should make your text visible. Also if you try to open a file with this and nothing shows up but the app, im sorry, you'll need to use File->Open, i am still working on it taking command line arguments to open files. Any other bugs, just PM or e-mail me, i love to get suggestions, and constructive crit. (just don't go to harsh on me!)
Program: Notepad (Glass Edition)

Notepad (Glass Edition) is a program i made
in my spare time to try and make boring old
Microsoft Notepad look a little spiffier and
modern. It has a completely glassed surface
which goes well with the "Aero" theme on
Windows Vista and Windows 7. If you would
like the source code just PM me, i'll send you
the visual studio solution file. It is programmed
in C#.
Updates:
=======
v1.0:Initial release
v1.1:Fixed a minor bug
v1.2:Added Text Alignment
Requirements:
===============
OS: At least windows Vista, but i added code to make it
compatible on earlier OSes, you just wont have the glass effect. (No, this won't work on Mac or Linux, sorry guys)
.Net Framework 3.5

Well, it does (says it right in the description i put up), but it will just look like normal notepad, not glassed, since WinXP does not support DWM Functions

Haha, i've been with Win 7 since the first beta, Microsoft invited me, i just finally decided to go out and buy it last weekend. It's an AMAZING OS. Everything Vista should have been and more. I'll be with 7 for a while

can i make the internet browser like this notepad or any other windows? thank you

Komrad-Toast In reply to badguy66626 [2009-12-11 23:35:36 +0000 UTC]
Well, if you wanted an internet browser like this, i would recommend the All Glass Firefox theme , or the Aero Geek Firefox Customization .
You can also get Glass Command Prompt .
But other than those, a new application would have to be coded from the ground up, which can take a while. Just a note, i didn't make any of the above Customizations.

I totally love this program! Its totally beutiful and gives boring but necicary old notepad a new, crisper feel! There's only one thing stopping me from using it all the time: I can't open files in it without using file-open. When I drag a file onto the icon, the program just opens. The same thing happens when I choose glass notepad as the default program: the program just opens with nothing in it. How can I fix this to where when I set it as the default program, I can click on a .txt and have it open with the text inside of it instead of blank?

Komrad-Toast In reply to mattj7 [2009-11-06 11:14:37 +0000 UTC]
Unfortunately this is a problem caused by the way windows handles file associations. I didn't know this and apparently needed to code in the fact that this should open text files (kinda ironic considering thats pretty much the only thing it CAN open). This will hopefully be fixed in v2.0 (Which i have been working on, but slowly, as other things have popped up, mainly school). For now, you'll have to stick with "File|Open", sorry about that.

problem.. cant use ctrl+s and when using save as and then reopening the file, nothing is there. it is blank. clicked on the color to white option.. nothing happens.

Komrad-Toast In reply to sankalanb [2009-10-21 20:39:56 +0000 UTC]
Ctr+s is not a hotkey in this program. This is the first program of this type that i have made and do not know how to program in hotkeys yet. You will have to use "File|Save As". Also, color to white will only turn your text white.

Looks awesome, how do I install it?

There actually is no install. You just download the program using the link to the left, then unzip the file and run the .exe that is included.

Just wondering, does your application installs over the generic notepad or is it a seperate app altogether?

this is a separate stand-alone application

Hi,is there a problem with the future French version? I try to translate glass notepad with a hexadecimal Γ©ditor but as the English words are shorter than the french words I can not. So I 'looking forward to the French version, if I can help do not hesitate.

When I click on a .txt file, a new blank file opens with Glass Notepad, rather than the file I want to read/edit
Any ideas?
Thanks

This is a problem i've been working on in the new revision (which will, hopefully, be almost bug free). In order to look at a text file you'll have to open it from within the program itself, using the FILE|OPEN menu.

Yeah, I found that out
Great to hear you are still working on it.
One other thing I would love to see, is support for .nfo files that display correctly. Maybe using a default font when opening these files?
I currently use a combination of notepad and GetDiz, but I'd love to be able to use just Glass Notepad.
Thanks again

I don't work with NFO files, so i don't know what font i need, if i'm not mistaken i would need the TERMINAL font correct? The NFO i opened was't anything fancy (no ASCII art, i know NFO's typically have that), but to the best of my knowledge it displayed correctly, if you could e-mail me a sample NFO with ASCII art and all the works i could probably work it out my e-mail is tylercolby-wolter@live.com

It would be better when there is a localized version of it. (Maybe you can add options that allow user to change language. So a user can be using English Windows 7 but having Glass Notepad of a Arabic version etc.

I am currently working on the arabic version actually, although i didn't think of making a single app, i was thinking about seperately releasing them, but i like your idea better, thanks!
