Description
Another architecture set for an Age of Empires 2 Civilization, Great Zimbabwe.I like doing these. I wish I had the digital skills to turn them into actual game-worthy graphics. We'll see what the future has in store.
Any thoughts on what architecture set I should design next? I was thinking either West African/Sudanese, Polynesian, or Khmer/Thai/Siamese.

excellent design, very lovely.
all buildings are easily identifiable and still have their own style.

Thank you. Unfortunately we opted to stay in North Africa for African Kingdoms, but perhaps in the future Zimbabwe, Kongo, and Somolia will have their days in the spotlight.

I'm working on Australian and Polynesian but I'm nowhere near as good an artist.Β
Australian would be very primitive, bark huts and pup tent sized humpies. Mine, lumber mill and dock being mostly humpies and lumps, logs and canoes respectively. No Siege workshop perhaps.
Polynesian would be beached two hulled boats with matting arches. Matting on the ground, Cut coral for imperial age. Bird man and Moi for some. The art of Easter island is not unique. Lots of palm trees.Β Β

I pitched the idea of a Polynesian set back when I was working for FE. My vision was that it could cover Indonesian and Maori civs, and anything else that made it into the future expansions. I always thought that Southeast Asia, North America, and South America were territories ripe for expansion. I hear now that they have touched on Southeast Asia at least, but I haven't kept up with their work.
Glad to hear that the mod-scene is alive and well!

A fun culture indeed. What would you do for unique techs and unit?

For the muisca on unique techs and units?
I would likely give them Andean Slingers and Guecha.Β
For their techs I would give them unique ones along the lines of faith and gold probably. I just wish I knew how their architecture would really look considering a lot of it was destroyed so it wouldn't be an easy task to uphold.

I always thought of the Guecha as just a warrior class, not unlike a Knight or Man-At-Arms. There wasn't anything I saw from their weaponry which truly makes them unique. The Wikipedia page mentions something called "tiraderas," but I don't know what it is. Know anything about that?
The architecture would likely wind up being the Meso set (because it's AoE2 and the Huns build Castles) unless they adopted that mod-Inca set as official, or something like it. It's sad that so much was destroyed.

I would call them a unique sort of unit considering that there is speculation and a good ammount of reason to believe the Guecha were a separate race of specially bred soldiers used by the Muisca to defend their lands. I would think of them as a unique swordsmen kind of unit in my opinion. They used a lot of different weapons so who knows, maybe they would be a unit that employs both limited range and a melee weapon at the same time (kinda like the OP Inca Kamayuk spears). I would say the basic meso set would make sense, but from what I have seen the Muisca architecture is a bit unique to all that lol. Oh well. I wish they were in the game hahaΒ
PS: Couldn't find anything on the weapon on either English or Spanish Articles. Found this thoughΒ www.rupestreweb.info/marriner.β¦

Very cool! Sounds like it could be a fun civ. That's one of the things I love about AoE, there's always new ideas for cool civs and units!

We're still working on the data-aspects of it. It just depends on whether User-Patch-based AoFE turns out to be more versatile for modders than AoE2 HD.

I and a group of amazing graphics artists and modders are working to turn it into a useable architecture set for the Age of Empires II game. No promises as to when (or if) it will ever be finished, but these are some talented, passionate people volunteering their time and I am happy to have inspired them.
PS: Stay tuned for more of these sketches in the future.

Nothing posted since March, but rest assured we're still working on it. Most of the Feudal Age is near completion, and we're starting on the Castle Age.

idk, it could go either way, what are your thoughts on the new expansion?

Kingdoms of Africa? Well, I'm cautious. I think that it's great that they're doing an African expansion, and I look forward to seeing the architecture. I agree, it could go either way.

I have a slight confession to make: I helped them work on it. I did the concept art for the North African set, which was well-executed by the incredibly talented Jorgito.
I won't say that the expansion is everything I wanted, but it's still good. I mean, you can't please everyone.

This is awesome! Also loved the Mississippian set. I'm a big fan of the game, and the only thing I wished for was to have more civs to play as. I feel like trying my hand at drawing some building sets myself.
Oh and a Khmer set would be cool to see.

Thanks! Won't be working much until I'm finished moving in two months, but I definitely plan on continuing the architecture sets. Between the Forgotten Empires and HD Steam release though I'm certainly getting my AoE 2 fix in the meantime.
