Am I the only one slightly unnerved by the fact it was never explained how Celestia was able to do that?

She is quite powerful. Knowing how to use shadow/dark/evil (etc.) magic seems like a nice little trump card if everything hits the proverbial fan. I'm honestly not surprised that she can do that.

... You have just become my favorite person in the world for the rest of the day. Love this SO MUCH. That dark side of Celestia we saw in the episode really gave me the chills and this picture brings that feeling right back without any hesitation. It is going in my faves and probably on my desktop as the wallpaper. ^.^ Also, gonna link this in my brony discussion group.

very well
since Luna became evil due to "evil magic" Celestia after banishing Nightmare started to learn dark magic to better prevent that form happening again

KP-ShadowSquirrel In reply to Silver-Diamonds [2012-11-15 10:37:07 +0000 UTC]
Yes, probably - although i have been using a different tablet for the recent images. Why do you ask for the bamboo tablet in particular?

Silver-Diamonds In reply to KP-ShadowSquirrel [2012-11-16 01:19:56 +0000 UTC]
well... its because i just wanted to learn from the difference of your arts from cintiq and bamboo tablet
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
KP-ShadowSquirrel In reply to Silver-Diamonds [2012-11-16 13:19:06 +0000 UTC]
For me, the Cintiq is more precise than the Bamboo for painting details - both are good for painting broad areas of color though. As for drawing, i never learned to draw on the bamboo tablet (coloring pencil sketches was fine though - as was 3d modeling in Zbrush).
I'm still trying to get comfortable at drawing directly on the Cintiq - it's still hard to get the same precision with it as with a real pencil or pen on paper.

but could you show me another new type of artwork?

KP-ShadowSquirrel In reply to Silver-Diamonds [2012-11-16 16:22:08 +0000 UTC]
Nothing new, but the first two painting videos on my youtube channel ("fleur and fancy" and "diamond tiara") were painted with the bamboo.

Silver-Diamonds In reply to KP-ShadowSquirrel [2012-11-16 23:07:06 +0000 UTC]
so you mean those portraits you have were used by your cintiq and the pic of diamond tiara and fleur and fancy is bamboo. So whats the difference on your bamboo artwork s than your cintiq artworks?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
KP-ShadowSquirrel In reply to Silver-Diamonds [2012-11-20 14:33:56 +0000 UTC]
For me it is easier to draw precise lines and details with the cintiq than with the bamboo. That makes it easier to make changes or to add details in an image when coloring it - that was not (easily) possible for me when i still used the bamboo tablet. With the bamboo i pretty much had to stick to the pencil sketch as it was when i scanned it - i could only make minor adjustments on the lines (or very broad ones with the transform tools). But drawing in new lines was really hard and uncomfortable.

KP-ShadowSquirrel In reply to Silver-Diamonds [2012-11-22 14:48:25 +0000 UTC]
You'll just have to practice a lot to get used to the tablet.
Maybe you could try different nibs for the stylus - i prefer the felt ones - they have more friction than the standard ones, that makes it feel more like drawing on paper.

Silver-Diamonds In reply to KP-ShadowSquirrel [2012-11-23 11:02:12 +0000 UTC]
but how do you do the awesome details like the eyes, hair and sketches? when did you also start having this kind of idea?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
KP-ShadowSquirrel In reply to Silver-Diamonds [2012-11-23 15:01:16 +0000 UTC]
For the eyes:
search for "manga eyes" on the google image search - pick a few styles that you like and draw them and try to understand them. (also don't skip on learning how eyes look like (are build) in real life anatomy - to understand why certain elements in a style are used the way they are)
The idea for painting the recent portraits came form the "super speedy character sketches" that i drew to practice drawing on the cintiq, practice drawing fast and also to practice drawing facial expression - all in one
