Description This has been in the works for a long time since my last version was basically Armageddon Daegon so the next updated version I wanted to get this form just right and get rid of those stupid suspenders lol.  I always thought Daegon was one of the most underrated MK villains and really the only EDENIAN villain who is a major threat to the Forces of Light (you have Rain and Tanya, but they're pretty low-tier plus the former really hasn't tapped into his power like his half-brothers so he's at a major disadvantage compared to them). Daegon has been undercover in Earthrealm for THOUSANDS of years since the dawn of man, studied the Earthrealmers, and has an entire cult who would die in battle for him. He’s basically the Vandal Savage of Mortal Kombat.  So how do you change a original bland and forgettable character into a new revamped and threatening character?

First, I got rid of the suspenders and gave him REAL armor. Red and black were no-brainers in the color of his armor because of the clan's name and the dark atmosphere behind him. The shoulder and armguards are influenced from soysaurus's Shao Kahn redesign.

The centerpiece has a yellow gem that resembles a dragon eye, but the symbol surrounding it betrays his true allegiance to Shinnok. It resembles the Kamidogu of the Netherrealm even though Daegon is not officially part of the Brotherhood of Shadow. The Red Dragon are more like a shadow cadre that works loosely with Shinnok, but not at the same capacity at how Quan Chi and Reiko serve Shinnok like in MK4. I thought it would be a cool detail that someone would notice at first glance.  I managed to keep the belt with the dragon head logo from his original costume because why change something that already gives the character his identity? One minor change I made was color the golden dragon emblem on the belt red instead of original gold.

His lower half of the body which include the Greco-Roman warrior skirt, clawed boots, and shinguards are kinda inspired by an a scrapped character by someone called Ruhsal. The entire character got scrapped, but I thought some of Ruhsal’s trinkets could inspire a malevolent god aesthetic to Daegon’s new design. The only major difference was that I moved that symbol from Ruhsal’s cape pin to Daegon’s shinguard. My headcanon could explain that’s the Edenic hieroglyph for “terror” which suits Daegon’s personality.

A major change to Daegon is that he has dragon-like burn marks around his arms. This illustrates how the Dragonfire is formed. So whenever the Dragonfire is used in kombat, Daegon’s eyes and tattoo glow red, but the Dragonfire originates from the shoulder and wraps around his arms in the shape of a limbless dragon. The fire ends in the palm either as a plasma ball to blast his enemies (kinda like Frieza in the DBZ lore) or as a stream of fire. One of his signature moves that I came up with is that Daegon can summon molten magma from underground, harden them into shards into the air, and unleash a shard carpet bomb that can explode upon contact with his enemies on the ground.

I also gave him with a new spiky beard and darkened his eye shadows just to show how evil he is. Another major change to Daegon is that he has horn-like projections coming out of his head. This is a result of the Mark of the Dragon being corrupted due to the atrocities he committed such as killing his mother and enslaving his former master Caro, using his Dragonfire. So if one misuses the Dragonfire, the power of the Mark slowly transforms the owner into a more draconic and degrading appearance kinda like how the Dark Side made the Emperor’s face degrade from the prequels to the Return of the Jedi. It also makes it painful to use so Daegon has to use some drugs in order to alleviate the pain. Oh and did I also mention he’s capable of transforming into a more powerful draconic form?

I think the entire look for Daegon is poetic because he has become so deluded into believing he's the rightful Protector God of Edenia that his appearance has taken the very same attire as the enemy he and Taven fought against back in the first invasion. In other words, he looks like "another damn Kahn."

The Drakesword is miles better than the original design in one of Taven’s redesign drawings and I only did Daegon’s sword because two would take up too much space. The sword takes a much more Greco-Roman aesthetic with an added bonus of a dragon head as the crossguard symbolizing his former master Caro.

Coming soon. Reboots for Rain and my boy Taven (third reboot so far that I could FINALLY be satisfied) in the near future.

I quite like the shift to a darker color scheme and y'know actual armor. He seems actually threatening in it and not just some old dude going dressed for casual Friday.

I wonder if your Daegon still has an interest in maintaining control over a large clan like before or if it, too, was really a means to an end.

Can't wait to see more.

I'm sure at first thought he saw potential in Earthrealmers from the birth of their civilization. But of course as time progressed, he became disgusted and amused at how humans continue to kill each other over trivial things, how they use up their natural resources, pollute the environment etc. So Daegon basically uses members of the human race to make up his clan who either are disgusted with the current trend of humanity or want to serve a higher purpose. The Red Dragon's experiments include genetically splicing Edenian DNA into Earthrealm subjects to create a new breed of superwarrior along with the Red Dragon hybrid soldiers. Daegon plans to use those to subjugate Earthrealm and terraform it into a new Edenia, while at the same time, wiping out the original Earthrealmers and Edenian mortals.

In my headcanon, Mavado was a former Spanish priest who oversaw torture operations during the Spanish Inquisition (the reason for the hookswords). But of course the Church stopped the Inquisition and turned on Mavado, secretly burning him at the stake. After his body has been tossed and left for dead in an underground monastery cavern, Daegon visits the barely alive Mavado and asks the latter why the Church and his god has abandoned him. Daegon then restores Mavado to health by giving him his blood to drink thus making Mavado a slow-aging Earthrealmer. In return for being saved by Daegon's miracle, he pledges his divine allegiance to Daegon as his new god.

Hsu Hao could have been a Mongolian soldier undergoing super-enhancing experiments in a Soviet facility while Mongolia was allied to the Soviet Union. After being sent out to deal with some Soviet Republic uprising in the 1970s-1980s, Hsu Hao gets shot in the chest and left for dead. Of course, Daegon finds him and restores his body, enhancing the Mongolian soldier's cyber implants. Of course, Hsu Hao then pledges his allegiance to Daegon.
