Description

So as of late, I've been developing some new MK lore in preparations for a future collaboration with someone I know, even though it's still in the very early developments as of late so constant changes and new concept ideas are constantly in flux when coming up with these character designs.

I've been wanting to remake the entire Konquest Mode of Armageddon for some time and at least make it compelling by extending the period of the events up just two days to one month and a few weeks. This would give enough time for the main characters to develop and maybe get rid of some unnecessary things that made the original Konquest Mode lag like random fights. Also, the NPCs' roles are being expanded, especially Orin who now accompanies Taven on his "quest" in a human avatar (I'll post that in the future) and basically helps the demigod regain his footing after awakening from his past life of constant strife and tragedy. Orin accomplishes this by having Taven relearn his old training when he was just a small child and expand it further with new techniques, in order for the demigod to regain what little humanity he still has left and be prepared for what lies ahead when he and Orin return to their newly revived homeland of Edenia. Taven and Daegon’s backstories are also expanded to give them more depth, along with making them members of an archaic and now sparse race of warrior-spirit Edenians called the Dasagari. They’re basically the Saiyans of the MK Universe, in contrast to the peaceful Haduri that include the rest of the Edenian roster like Jade, Sindel, and Kitana.

Overall costume and looks plus reused ideas: So this is where I introduce this shirtless version of Konquest Mode Taven. Originally, he did have his MKA primary costume, but during the events of his escape from the Tekunin ship, they all got damaged so Orin basically just gave him some less regal clothing like black baggy shorts and sandals during their training period in Earthrealm. The training period also explains why Taven’s hair grew out from his centurion cut into a spiky Wolverine-like visage and his beard expanding further up from his chin. I honestly love Taven being more rugged in my concepts and gives the impression that this guy was a seasoned war veteran ages ago and not just some rich Ben Affleck fuckboy with a silver spoon.

I still reused some old design elements from my armored Taven redesign last August like the Drakkon Eye Amulet being attached to his necklace. Other elements was the entire belt including the dragon head centerpiece and the utility bag.

Extension of tattoos: I honestly looked back at my redesign and thought I did a crappy job at depicting how the tattoos on his arms operated because of the Mark on his forehead. This redesign gave me the opportunity not just redesign the tattoos, but give Taven a uniqueness in his pyromancy/sorcery. As you can see, the dragon markings now extend down to his abdomen and glow golden whenever he needs to use the Dragonfire for shooting fireballs and increasing the damage he delivers to opponents. The protruding body spines are also supposed to be projecting three-dimensionally like an actual dragon. Primarily, the Dragonfire is used to create constructs such as this large kopis-like blade in his right hand through his sheer will and concentration, kinda like a Green Lantern. That way I also don’t need Taven to find a mystic sword to be his primary weapon when he could just craft it on his own. The markings dorsal to his palms are also different now with the dragon hands being less draconic, along with archaic Edenian hieroglyphic runes that depict some sort of spell when summoning Dragonfire and glow black when in use. The runes are inspired by Etruscan letters found on pottery.

New elements:

Just a few notes:

  • The retractable claws on his fingers are a lot more talon-like which he uses the claws to disembowel foes up close, more like grab and lift enemies’ by the throat and smash his claws through their abdomens, raking out their intestines while the clawed hand is in flames.
  • The necklace now has some additional items such as the Edenian Kamidogu pendant and a new object, the Baruga bird. In the new lore, this creature is basically the representative of the Dasagaris’ creator and sky deity in the race’s animist religion.
  • The sandals went through a complete redesign from a Mesopotamian look on his old redesign to more archaic Greco-Etruscan, with some classic Greek bordering patterns on his sandal sides. Also, I thought covering the rest of his legs in linen bandages gave him a more rugged visage of his time in Earthrealm, especially with the dried blood stains. Ideas for leg guards were tossed altogether.
  • The red sash around his neck is now relegated to a short sash attached to his belt. This piece of cloth was found in Delia’s Temple and taken by her son as a piece of memorabilia.

Some elements pertaining to the new lore:

  • Taven now has an abdominal scar from a puncture wound he received from his reckless fight with a giant Manitcore, the first monster and villain kill that Taven had made when he was the Edenian equivalent of an Earthrealm teenager. Both Taven and Daegon were sent to the kingdom of Shokan by Argus, at King Gorbak’s request to deal with a subterranean Manticore plague and ultimately kill the main hive leader. The scorpion tail punctured Taven’s abs, seeping in tons of venom nearly killing Taven after the fight. Luckily, Delia was able to bring Taven back from the brink of death, with the scar as a reminder of his recklessness.
  • He sports a ring on one of his left fingers, from a engagement that he planned, but never happened due to some tragic instances. He’s never gotten over it since then. I'll go over it in more details when I do a seperate post about the ring.
