Very awesome. Quake 1 was a great game, better than Q2 IMO. a lot scarier.

One thing though - fiends don't have eyes - thats part of the creepier aspects of lovecraft inspired works

I'm afraid you're incorrect, Fiends do indeed have eyes. I've got a program for viewing the game's polygon models in detail. Perhaps the Ghast, the HPL creature that the Fiend is supposedly based on, doesn't have eyes, I don't know.

While I prefer the gameplay of Quake 2, especially Deathmatch, I agree that Quake 1 had a lot more atmosphere. I prefer fighting weird monsters to Strogg.

I always wondered about how much the Trigens from Far Cry resemble these guys. Can't get very original, I guess.

I'm lazy to look at the given URL... What did you make this with?

I've never played Far Cry, so I'm not familiar with the Trigens you mentioned.

The figure is basically a papier mache contruct, so it's made primarily from glue and paper.

Wow, it's very impressive then! Have you used a metal "skeleton"? Even if you did, props for your sculpting skills!

Thanks for the pic--they look like the mutant enemy creatures in Quake II to me (can't remember what they're called, but they're organic creatures, not Strogg cyborgs).

No, I didn't use a wire armature skeleton--the papier mache is strong enough to support its own weight without any internal support.

Those are the Mutants.

I know PM is strong enough for that. I thought of the skeleton as having been used as a 3D baseline. Know what I mean?

Yeah, Mutants, for some reason I was thinking they had a more elaborate/descriptive name than that.

I think I understand what you mean by a 3D baseline. I don't usually make a framework to build on, my methodology is to usually start with a single piece of anatomy and then the whole figure grows outwards from that. I might, for example, start sculpting a leg and then everything else builds from there--kind of organic-like I guess you could say. At other times, particularly for an articulated figure, I make everything piecemeal and then assemble it later into the complete figure.

Well, both of these methods work too. Hadn't thought of the piecemeal method, though.
