Well, last year my house got hit hard on May 4th by a tornado, I am still doing repairs.....Today, a tornado almost touched down about 4 miles from me. I managed to take a few quick digital shots of it.
It was really cool how a funnel would begin to come down, then get sucked back up. I wish this could show that better...

There are no tornadoes here because I live in the big city. But sometimes there are tornadoes in the small towns that surround Chicago.

It's funny...A big country with natural disasters in just some states/cities.How the world is strange huh?Like here, sometimes snows in just small citys on the south, and big storms rarely affect the northeast. (I don't know if I write this correctily XD!)

I've never actually seen a tornado while I was growing up. Like you, I am also terrified yet fascinated by them. I have had dreams of tornadoes for years.

nice shot. here in eastern missouri there is never any tornados. a week or so ago the sirens went off 4 times starting at 3 in the morning, and of course i was standing outside holding my breath in hopes of seeing one, but i was yet again dissapointed. i'm dying to see a live tornado..so beautiful. plus plus!

Tornado's seem to come to me....May of last year my home was hit by one, thought that it was going to happen agai with this one....lol
I tend to prefer lightning, but....I haven't mastered the technigue yet....

why would you WANT to be that close to a tornado though?? shouldn't you be...oh I don't know....running like all hell??? but I agree with you...the adreniline starts pumping when something is happening to you in the weather....if that made sense. you know...if weather fascinates you, you should go to college studying meteorology. that could be fun!

if I were to pursue anything concerning weather, it would be as a chaser, and yes....still a photographer.
I have taken my interest to study as much as I am willing to, and get enough info to understand, and make educated gueses as to what, or is, happening...
at that distance, 4 to 5 miles away, traveling at about 15 mpr, away from me, I was fairly safe, and had enough time to reach a cellar, about 100 yards away, if things changed.
besides, I had to get that shot...lol...
