It seems there has been alot of buzz about Derpy being "fixed". I saw the New version of Derpy in "The Last Round-Up" and I do admit it didn't settle well with me. I still enjoyed the original. I didn't like the reason why they had her change. It didn't seem at all offensive in my opinion. When I first saw the scene in the animatic, I literally burst with joy. But I had a feeling that it might not settle with some fans and some people. Especially since people already have their own version of Derpy and people might get the wrong idea of her character.

Its not often that cartoons show fan content. Cause sometimes when you include Fan content, it usually can result to something negative (to fans or to others). And sometimes it also endangers the identity/essence of the show. Or if people like it, they will probably expect a lot more.To the point they might expect TOO much. So you could imagine my surprise when they decided to name Derpy and give her a voice.

Derpy has became more than just some fancy Easter egg in the show. She's became an Icon, a symbol to the fans of MLP:FIM. Though Derpy was created in a studio, her character was created by the fans.  You can probably say that she represents all Bronies everywhere. Fans have enjoyed Derpy whenever they see her in the background until the point when she talked. The entire studio loves her as well. I was there in one of those Livestream chatrooms when people first heard her talk. It was quite entertaining how happy people were. So its no surprise to see people get really upset by this.

In a way, I understand why majority of fans are upset but blaming, pointing fingers and throwing hate around is not the way to do this. You're forgetting your own motto "Love and Tolerance". You bronies are one of inspiration and our greatest achievement. Don't sully your name by spreading Hate and intolerance. Remember, Tolerance is not the same as acceptance. If you are upset with something, display it in a more positive way. You'll get your message across much better than lashing it out with hate. Show some respect. Show some humility.

Oh I also want to address on a artist name Yamino. I've heard that she has been garnered a lot of hate by the Brony Community due to her not liking Derpy's portrayal. Let it be known, that she had NOTHING to do with the sudden change. She expressed an opinion on Derpy. That is all. She did not ask me to do this or anyone on the staff. I had to say this because the hate she's been receiving is unnecessary. So leave her be.

Also don't spam notes and messages to the people who work on the show. You're probably not going to get much out of it.

On the issue on Derpy whether she'll have the same Derp face expression and stuff. The show will still go on and I hope you will continue to support the show. Though Derpy is a great character, she is not essentially the reason why the show is awesome (though she is one of the Reasons). If Derpy never existed on that fateful scene in the first episode, would MLP be a bad show? Remember MLP is a great show because for what it is. I didn't know about Derpy until someone from the Studio pointed it out. I hope you'll still enjoy the show no matter what happens.

I hope this message will ease some of your minds. Thank you.

The communities reaction to this was by far the worst possible behaviors I have ever seen by bronies. I really hope this serves as a commodity on how NOT to act.

The creators could have left Derpy out of the episode completely, but they didn't. Even though they changed her, I still appreciate the gesture. Thanks Hasbro and makers of MLP for keeping us in mind even though this unfortunate event happened.

Okay, I feel this warrants another post. Season 2 just came out on Netflix, and guess which version of The Last Roundup they used. That's right, the awful, awful edited version. I know you didn't have anything to do with it, but son, I am disappoint.

I saw the edited version, and while I was not mad at Derpy's voice change, I didn't like how the quality of Rainbow Dash's voice (in technical terms, not in terms of the VA) was degraded. They could do a better job than a quick voice edit that sounds kind of distorted.

And if you guys flame me, when she says "Huh?" in reaction to Derpy's lightning bolt, it sounds alright. But when she says for Derpy to be careful, it sounds low quality and slapped on.

Yeah, as I keep mentioning, it wasn't just Derpy that got hit with the edit, but Dash got got affected by it pretty badly as well.

All I can say is that while I'm still a fan of the show, I'm severely dissapointed with how this situation was handled. Hasbro, Apple, whoever it was should've just ignored the minority and continued leaving the scene as is, but nope, they bowed down to the minority and a shitstorm ensued. I am disappoint.

Now I know it's probably not going to happen, but if full seasons of this show get released on DVD and season 2 has the edited version, I'll be skipping that particuarl episode. I can't skip the season outright since it has Luna in it, but I can skip the episode. Quite the shame as well since it was a good Applejack episode. Shame it's been marred by Political Correctness.

What I would really like is for Hasbro to bring her eyes and her original voice back, and then to dedicate an episode or part of an episode to why Ponyville loves her and wants her around even though she's her own natural disaster. Think about it. She must have some amazing traits to make Rainbow Dash work with her despite all that clumsiness. That could be a great episode and a great lesson. To just change her after all this time is saying that there was something really wrong with her and I just doesn't see that.

The one thing I could agree with is changing her name. I like Derpy, but I could see where it would have too negative a connotation to continue with. Maybe they could just change her name to "Dee". That could be a shortened version of both Ditzy and Derpy.

(don't kill me) I kinda like Derpy's new voice, it seems to fit her more. In fact, I think Ditzy might even be a better name.
Derpy isn't the reason I watch the show. In fact, I didn't even notice her until I was already addicted. If It wasn't for my little sister pointing her out, I wouldn't have noticed her to this day.
but I still love her.
I love her for being cute, clumsy, and silly. In fact, she reminds me of my little sister.
I will not be happy if they ever decide to screen her out. Me and my little sister love her, always have fun trying to find her in the background, and would be very unhappy if she is ever screened out.
Hasbro/the Hub, if you screen out Derpy, you'll have more unhappy fans than pleased parents.
you say she's safe now, but haters are going to keep complaining.
Haters are intent on making people's lives miserable.

^Wow, i just kinda rattled on XD^

Most fans would've been fine with the voice change, as it sounded the way it did because of an honest mistake (the VA thought Derpy was a boy). However, they took out the name and "fixed" her eyes as well, and you can't "fix" something without saying there's a problem with it. This upset a lot of people for a lot of different reasons.

- Supporters of Derpy were insulted that Hasbro would tacitly legitimize the accusations that had been thrown at them.
- Fans were worried that this would sour the unique relationship between them and the creative team.
- People who love lil' Derpy to pieces would be heartbroken if she was removed (I jest, but there really are some depressing stories out there).
- Disabled people were insulted that the anti-Derpy crowd would use their existence as emotional leverage to force their views.
- Disabled people who identify with Derpy simply for being different took the "fixing" of her to be more "normal" personally.
And, of course: Spoiled fanboys and trolls, because... well, because. Some non-fans were also miffed at what they considered censorship.

The silver lining here is that, if not for what happened, we might've never known what a force for good Derpy has been, and still is. People with all sorts of disabilities came out in force to defend her, citing her as an inspiration and a role-model simply for being different, happy and loved by tens of thousands, if not more. One girl, a dancer, said Derpy saved her life by helping her fight off thoughts of suicide after she lost the use of her legs in a car accident!

So yeah... it's no wonder people got invested in this whole thing. I hope that clears things up a bit. :3

I too shook my head in disapproval when I heard of the change. However, when I heard the new voice it got me thinking. Ditzy/Derpy is just accident prone. Like how Pinkie's mane reacts to her emotions, objects in general react to the bubbly mare's movements.

When I saw the first version she sounded too boyish. The new voice helps cement her identity as a female. That's one reason why I like her new voice more. The other reason is that after listening to both voices side-by-side there was a broader range of emotion in the new one. Part of me started to feel her concern when she said "you okay Rainbow Dash?" in that higher pitch.

Both voices establish her character very well, but add in everything else and the first voice probably did it too well. As a result, after all the complaints, three key changes were made: her voice, her eyes, and the elimination of any name whatsoever. I think it's the fact that all of those things were changed that got the older fans so upset. If they only changed the voice and not the name and/or eyes I doubt that there would've been such a profound reaction.

This is the opinion I made for myself after thinking it over for a while. Yourself and the others that take the time to read all of this comment are free to agree or disagree. My own curiosity got me hooked on this show long before Derpy had a voice. It will take a whole lot more than changing 60 seconds of a single episode to turn me away. Keep up the good work Kreoss

Changing Derpy to please the critics is not a show of love and tolerance. It's a show of being, as Iron Will would say, a doormat. If this show is supposed to promote acceptance, then the right thing for Hasbro to do would have been to love and tolerate the critics' biased assumptions without making changes. Just because something may seem subtly offensive does not mean it is. As long as the creators of the show did not intend that, then the critics have no say in it.

Hasbro should bring Derpy's original voice and spoken name back and issue a statement along the lines of "Just because you might think something is what you assume does not mean it really is."

Or even better, make two variations of each speaking appearance to appease both the fans and the critics.

With that logic, people could argue that by pleasing the fan base by including Derpy in almost every episode would also be considered being, as Iron Will would say, a doormat. Most of the arguments against the Derpy change work both ways unfortunately.

By removing derpys eyes hasbro are showing that they believe "derpy" is a negative term aimed at disabled people. I believe derp is just another word for "oops" it was made by mistake and now everyone loses out. I admired the team for keeping derpy in and I felt no offence at all. Hasbro has clearly stated that they believe derpy is an offensive word. No one complained about snails, and I think he has more traits that can be deemed offesive as one of the small group of colts that appear regularly. But honestly I dont think either are offensive. I still hope the team can continue using derpy as an easter egg.

This is a reason why I stopped going to equestria daily and sort. I love the show because it reminds me good ol' cartoons from childhood, and is great show for kids. Unfortunately you can't avoid people that are taking things to serious, or to far in wrong direction. I think some of bronies and haters should just bite their tongue and take a lesson as Dashy had in "The Mysterious Mare Do Well". It's a big world full of people that have different taste about things. If someone don't like something just let him/her be. Don't start fight with haters as it void foundation of show motto (friendship is magic) and will get you nowhere. Enjoy that gift or if you do not like it just turn around and go away.

About Derpy Hooves. I was disappointed when found out that her voice was changed and name removed. It was nice to see that creators can pay tribute to fans. But I can see that it might be taken as a wrong view on people with disabilities. Do not forget that this show is for kids as priority. Bronies are just an unexpected extra that creators probably did not expect.

I just wanted to express my fillings in this mater. I wish I didn't offended anyone with my rubbish English.

All best to all bronies and haters

I happen to like Derpy, sorry, but I have had since child hood vision problems and i like seeing characters with similar problems to myself...if they take away Derpy, then what the hell...are they denying that we exist, that people who have vision problems exist? Its not fair and right, there are kids who have the same eye problems at Derpy and I think it is a good thing and away to say, "Hey, even though she's messing up, she still has friends, still has people who help her."

To answer your question, no, they were responding to complaints (plural, from concerned parents and people with disabilities -- sorry, I see a lot of people trying to downplay this into the ground) that Derpy came off as a caricature or a mockery of someone with a disability, as a collective result of her eyes, her name, her exaggerated clumsiness, and her slow, male-sounding voice, which was the result of a small miscommunication in the production process.

Her "eye problems" were, unfortunately, part of a larger package that didn't come off well, and were edited for the same reason as her voice and her name.

I think it's fair to say that that wasn't the message anyone intended. Like I (and the people who worked on the show) said, the problem people was seeing her as an intolerant stereotype of everything you mentioned that did more harm than good.

I'm not necessarily saying it was a good move, just why they did and didn't make the change. My own experiences at that age aside, I've seen people with disabilities who have gone both ways.

I was clumsy, I was considered in the way as a kid, so I kind of relate to Derpy more than the other characters. I was in special ed...so by taking Derpy out, its telling people, its okay to be like the others, but not okay to be clumsy or have accidents.

I have friends who have kids with disabilities and they seem to find Derpy to be entertaining, the voice change is understandable, and aside from that, I like her with her eyes and so do the kids. It shows a little more tolerance for people who are different.

No. You know, that's the thing nowadays. Bronies may seem crazy at times (or a lot), but they take action. That's something no one else does. Everyone else is willing to just sit back and watch something change. They are prideful in what they like, meaning they legitimately enjoy it. And to that, they are willing to change something to make it better. Sure, bronies do the wrong things sometimes, like sending hate mail to the wrong people, but the brony fandom is merely in its baby stage. Give it time to grow. You can't speak for yourself right now because you're just sitting back and watching. I'm sorry if I sound like a jerk, but you weren't any better coming in here.

No worries for sounding like a jerk, fanatic bronies usually tend to be much worse than you.
What do you mean by sitting back by doing nothing? This isn't even a real problem. Again, Derpy is an animated cartoon pony on a show for little girls. How could anything so minuscule offend you? God help any of you who sit down to watch, say, SNL.
The makers of the show put in your fan character only for you all to argue aimlessly about it. You get your fanservice, now you're mad? Most shows won't even care about fan input, but Faust has the courtesy to look at her overgrown fanboy population and give them their wishes. So get over it.
Why spend time on this "derpy" issue when there are thousands of other more worthwhile issues out there, that are tangible and real?
And the motto of the show is to 'love and tolerate', no? Then why, everywhere I go, I see angry bronies foaming at the mouth when you don't agree with them or when you admit to not being a fan of the show? When did loving and tolerating turn into tantrums? Bullshit.
I am sitting back and watching for this whole thing to blow over. Even for the most pathetic bronies, this isn't something worth your time. Watch the show, enjoy your ponies, get on with your life.
This may not apply to you, but if I sound too harsh it's because I am so tired of dA's bronies bawwing everywhere about the most trivial things...
