It seems there has been alot of buzz about Derpy being "fixed". I saw the New version of Derpy in "The Last Round-Up" and I do admit it didn't settle well with me. I still enjoyed the original. I didn't like the reason why they had her change. It didn't seem at all offensive in my opinion. When I first saw the scene in the animatic, I literally burst with joy. But I had a feeling that it might not settle with some fans and some people. Especially since people already have their own version of Derpy and people might get the wrong idea of her character.
Its not often that cartoons show fan content. Cause sometimes when you include Fan content, it usually can result to something negative (to fans or to others). And sometimes it also endangers the identity/essence of the show. Or if people like it, they will probably expect a lot more.To the point they might expect TOO much. So you could imagine my surprise when they decided to name Derpy and give her a voice.
Derpy has became more than just some fancy Easter egg in the show. She's became an Icon, a symbol to the fans of MLP:FIM. Though Derpy was created in a studio, her character was created by the fans. You can probably say that she represents all Bronies everywhere. Fans have enjoyed Derpy whenever they see her in the background until the point when she talked. The entire studio loves her as well. I was there in one of those Livestream chatrooms when people first heard her talk. It was quite entertaining how happy people were. So its no surprise to see people get really upset by this.
In a way, I understand why majority of fans are upset but blaming, pointing fingers and throwing hate around is not the way to do this. You're forgetting your own motto "Love and Tolerance". You bronies are one of inspiration and our greatest achievement. Don't sully your name by spreading Hate and intolerance. Remember, Tolerance is not the same as acceptance. If you are upset with something, display it in a more positive way. You'll get your message across much better than lashing it out with hate. Show some respect. Show some humility.
Oh I also want to address on a artist name Yamino. I've heard that she has been garnered a lot of hate by the Brony Community due to her not liking Derpy's portrayal. Let it be known, that she had NOTHING to do with the sudden change. She expressed an opinion on Derpy. That is all. She did not ask me to do this or anyone on the staff. I had to say this because the hate she's been receiving is unnecessary. So leave her be.
Also don't spam notes and messages to the people who work on the show. You're probably not going to get much out of it.
On the issue on Derpy whether she'll have the same Derp face expression and stuff. The show will still go on and I hope you will continue to support the show. Though Derpy is a great character, she is not essentially the reason why the show is awesome (though she is one of the Reasons). If Derpy never existed on that fateful scene in the first episode, would MLP be a bad show? Remember MLP is a great show because for what it is. I didn't know about Derpy until someone from the Studio pointed it out. I hope you'll still enjoy the show no matter what happens.
I hope this message will ease some of your minds. Thank you.

So... back to a "Where's Waldo" role for her, right? We'll never hear her name or hear her speak again, will we? She could have been such a sweet, goofy character, too.
Sucks.

I don't get what changed about derpy, I thought the only time derpy ever talked was in the "The last round up" Unless she talked some other time an I just didn't notice, she looked the same to me still cross eyed. I don;t see what changed.

As someone WITH a disability I found no problem with her first voice, the second one I liked less. But we live in such a PC world today that any mention of a "disabled" character will be met with an angry backlash by overprotective parents and others like them.
First off I'd like to say to anyone offended by her original voice and the way she looked: Derpy is just a cartoon character! If it was live sitcom and there was a disabled character in the show then you have something to be mad about, but seriously you're gonna throw a hissy over a pony with a lazy eye who acts a little slow?
If you continue to sanitize shows to protect the children from something like this, what will you do if that same child you're trying to protect met someone with a disability? They're not gonna know how to act around them or know why the person looks or acts a certain way. If anything the child may end up pointing out to the person that they look weird or sound weird or act weird.
I wanted to congratulate Hasbro for bringing it to the spotlight with the creation of Derpy, disabled people are not meant to be singled out for their disabilities, but to be treated as everyone else, which is what most of them want.
Bring Derpy back! The ORIGINAL Derpy!
P.S. you're an animator of the show? I've got some episode ideas I'd like to toss around if you're interested^.^

We gotta remember that this fandom is BIG and it's only because the show has attracted people from every fandom even the anti-groups. Bronies also have to remember that the negative vocal minority can and will ruin an entire fandom along with the show and the people they support. I've noticed that many bronies are kept being silenced by others that don't follow the "love and tolerance" motto and being jerks about it by claiming that it's discredited motto. But that's not the case, the real reason is that the more respectable bronies that do follow the "love and tolerance" motto are being hushed and quiet now instead of just trying to be louder than the vocal minority and follow what Kreoss is saying by being more respectful with stuff they're upset about. Also, bronies that do follow the motto shouldn't really hound other memebers for their opinions, even negative ones, thinking that what they say will somehow change the entire show. Those bronies should really just acknowledge the opinion and move on. If they still the need to disagree with that opinion they should at least be civil about it and maybe say "I respectfully disagree with you," while still being true to the toleranc part of the motto.
I really don't know any better way to say this to the bronies than to say "don't let the 'bad apples' of your fandom sully your name, don't let them be the ones that people outside of this fandom see, and... try to be more involved and be more friendly and respectable to everyone's decisions... also because the fandom is getting bigger each day it, doesn't mean you should be quiet, just don't be obnoxious about your opinions."

But Kreoss, the part that worries me is the fact that just because Hasbro was issued a complaint about something this insignificant they went and altered the show. Saying Derpy is offensive is like saying Pokemon is a satanic cult game, its just pure nonsense.
Now don't get me wrong, I love the show but Hasbro shouldn't freak out from what a group/organization might have to complain about the show.
And if the artists can't do anything about it who should we talk to then?

"Saying Derpy is offensive is like saying Pokemon is a satanic cult game..."
The only problem is, my school (generally very reasonable about these sorts of things) tried that by sending out pamphlets saying that anime (especiallly Pokemon and DBZ), Harry Potter, and even Fairly Odd Parents were evil for pretty obvious reasons. Because of that pamphlet, I wasnt allowed to watch or read many things I now really love, and my childhood feels a bit gipped because if it.
Point is, in this world so concerned with political correctness, the intelligent, silent minority will always be shouted down by the idiotic, loudmouthed majority.

Very well written. Remember, the excellence of My Little Pony comes from the show's writers and artists, and one change to a background character shouldn't change that.
But what I don't understand is how people thought that Derpy was offensive. She wasn't meant to seem mentally retarded, she was meant to just be a clumsy pony, which she was.

The new altered voice is OK. Her original is better IMO. It's odd that they had to alter it and remove her name from being said. I'll take your word for it. The show must go on, knowing Derpy's gonna be alright~

I feel in personal opinion that they sidestepped a pot hole and fell of the road.
The second voice while much better and sounded like a girl, still wasn't as good as the other voice actresses jobs. and seemed a little lifeless. The name, they should have kept it we weren't mad over the name part. The eyes to much fixing in my opinion a little cross eyed would have been fine but looking at it a third time it is crossed a little but not quite enough to keep the same feel as the background pony we all grew to like.
Also keep up the good work on the show.

I'll take your word for it.
I think a lot of the rage came not necessarily from hate, but from love, if that makes sense.
Some of us bronies, myself included, face hate and disgust from friends and family if we admit we watch the show.
Putting Derpy in was a way of validating us, making us feel loved by the creators of the show, in the way that we love you so very much. Because believe me, we love you.
Some of the meanest and most awful things I've ever said have been to people I love, because feeling betrayed by people you love is hard.
We love you, and we love Derpy, and it was just so painful to see her erased and overwritten.
If I may reference Haddaway, "What is love, baby don't hurt me, no more".
Love hurts, and we love you very very much.

I liked the original voice they had for Derpy. It was similar to one I had in my own head of her at times. That voice never came off as "mentally disabled" to me. It reminded me of when I'm being silly and change my voice to my "silly voice".
Having watched the new version I like that voice too. It's nice and cute but it does sound too.. "shrill" is the only think I can think of. It hurts my ears to listen to it too long.
I also like the voice she got in S1 when she said "Muffins" which was a nice, pretty voice.
In my opinion, if Derpy gets to speak ever again, I'd much rather her have a more mature and soft voice. Kind of like how Fluttershy is soft spoken and Rarity is well spoken but not as soft or haughty. If.. that makes sense. LoL I just never thought of Derpy as being "young" so to hear her with such a shrill youthful voice feels out of place. She's supposed to be the same age as the Mane Six right? And most of them have nice, mature voices (Except Pinkie I guess who's kind of..screechy ).
I really, really, really hope that she can retain the name "Derpy" though. It's such a cute name and totally perfect for her. Just please for the love of Celestia don't call her Ditzy Doo. It's so ugly and far more offensive.
Honestly sometimes I wonder if this whole situation might not have happened if Derpy was debuted in a scene that didn't involve her being destructive and Rainbow Dash being visibly annoyed with her.
Anyway... I'm glad she's not going to be removed forever from the show but I hate that this whole drama crap even had to happen!

I love how he didn't say wether her derped expretion is going to stay or not -_- He said that "she'll be fine" and that "show will go on". By all means- this is NOT raesuring at all! It sounds like one of those things someone would say just so people are not mad. Tolerance and Acceptance is not the same thing- neither is helping and redirecting the problem! Bronies are not a problem, neither are haters! They are overzealous, but they got one thing right, the thing with which we all agree- changing Derpy's name and "fixing" her expretion is not just unnecessary- it's WRONG. Derpy is an icon. And will continue to be an icon no matter what- it's far too late to retcon that! Don't let something so stupid plant seeds of disharmony between MlP creators and fans! Why should you guys even consider abiding to the claims of over-sensitive people who find Derpy offensive? If they are children's parents they can freakin's turn off the TV and if they are trolls and WHY listen to them? We, the community of fans have made the petition and gained a HUMONGOUS support from fans worldwide- this shows how many people, people whose calls SHOULD be the most valuable, bacuse they watch the show and buy associated products, are NOT offended by Derpy! Why can't we solve this democraticaly? We all can tolerate the fact that some people find Derpy offensive, but you can bet we will do EVERYTHING to change their mind! Be tolerant, never succumb to ignorance! Derpy is a beacon of hope. Derpy is the sign of FRIENDSHIP between the Bronies and creators! Please- don't let friendship loose!

This really sucks, considering I'm the daughter of a parent that became mentally disabled over five years ago. I have never found Derpy Hooves "offensive" or likened to anything mentally disabled. I'm quite disappointed that parents would take it this way, however, that is their opinion and they are entitled to it. I'm a grown woman, turning 29 this year, and I'm sure if I showed my dad Derpy Hooves he'd laugh not only at her name, but at her in general. His affliction is to do with memory, in short, he has none. He sometimes mistakes me for his sister, thinks he is living in his hometown (he is not), and forgets a movie we just saw about fifteen minutes after the fact. Derpy Hooves is a klutzy, loveable flying pony. I don't see the connection between the two, and I can't fathom how parents did, either. But, like I said before, they have their opinions and are entitled to them. I wish I could show them otherwise.

This is the first time I've ever even commented here.
I like the new voice because it reminds me of BaldDumboRat from youtube. The old voice was good too, but it helps me sync stuff together more. Myself, I want her name back in, and I'm very glad to hear her eyes will be derped. I actually just bought a blindbag pegasus that I am going to paint as darling Derpy Hooves, full derped out - first time I'm customizing a figure too. I loved the mini-Derpy in the snowglobe - elegantly surreal.
I myself am quite autistic and grew up in a violently abusive household. I also adore Twilight Sparkle, our OCD pony (YMMV). I see her like that.
The main problem that I see? Ponyville needs better building codes! Look at the old folks home in Mare Do-Well. And if poor Derpy can destroy town hall in a few minutes flat? Maybe Pia Ikea can help.

People will be offended by anything, that's why I choose brony-life over "normal" life any day. Someone out there is probably offended that The Mane 6 propagates independent female character, or that The Apple Family promotes unpaid Child Labor or some other bull like that. Idiotic people are idiotic and will continue to be idiotic.
Derpy is not retarded. I'm not gonna say "special" or "different" and sugarcoat it for the Non-Bronies out there. Derpy is Bronies the fandom. Derpy not only represents the fandom, but the demeanor of people who are outcasts, losers, rejects and the like. She's clumsy, awkward, and (as it appears to me) disliked by her peers, just like us.
But, when Derpy arrived in MLP, it all began. We became prominent in the "real world", just as Derpy became prominent in ours. We were recognized by those around us. The Non-Bronies saw that we could become possible. When Derpy became canon, we became real.
Despite how the silly people of the world react see the best pony (damn right I'm saying it), Derpy lives on in my heart. Whenever I watch "The Last Roundup", I will skip the first 1:25 and replace with what can be.

I think the main was that some people (don't know who so won't name names) misinterpreted the scene. The joke was meant to be 'there is a pony and she is clumsy and silly'. Unfortunately because Derpy accidentally knocked into something and because she is (so far) the only pony with a cross-eyes I could see how someone could interpret that as 'Derpy is clumsy because she has cross-eyes'.
The (original) voice doesn't offend me at all, she is just a pony with a lisp (and RD doesn't even point out she has a lisp much less make fun of her for it). Plus Looney Tunes has gotten away with blatantly using lisps and speech impediments for comedy for years and STILL manages to barely get any flack for it so, really, what's wrong with Derpy having a lisp? The fact that they replaced her original voice with one that doesn't have one actually offends me more. I mean, the implication that ponies can't have lisps is...accidentally unfortunate.
As for the name 'Derpy' being mentioned on-screen...I honestly don't know if that's offensive or not. I could maybe see a kid calling another kid with a lisp or cross-eyes 'Derpy' out of pure ignorance and then getting scolded for it but, honestly, in 2012 I doubt there are very many children being so badly raised that they brutally pick on someone because of a cartoon they watched.
If I absolutely HAD to edit that scene I would've probably just made it clearer that Derpy knocked into the beam due to her clumsiness and not her eyesight or maybe not have RD give that eye-roll at the end. Again, if I HAD to and was trying to interpret why that scene offended some people.
Oh, and one more thing...has there ever been a cartoon character with a speech impediment besides Derpy whose main comedic purpose wasn't their impediment? Just saying that, in a huge way, Derpy is progressive.
